So fabulous! I remember these oh so well! I visited my Aunt who lived in Atlanta at the time (I'm from the UK) and I got my first one over there! Loved it so much! x
Wow, so many gorgeous Pop Swatches. I don't have any Pops unfortunately. It was so awesome for Charles to send them to you, because they will be loved. And you can mix and match for any outfit. Love the collection. And you got one like the one that didn't work. How cool is that? (Jan Griffiths).
I’m so very happy that you enjoyed your unboxing Swatch avalanche 😁 May they bring you many years of happiness, and compliments from envious eyes whose vision happens to fall upon your wrist! Funny thing:you may have missed one, hopefully you didn’t toss the box! I’ll check my house just in case I accidentally forgot to put it in the box. It’s got a black band with a funny zebra-like pattern, called ‘Marmoratta’. I could share the names of the ones I know, but it would be more wordy than this already is,so have fun doing your swatch research! Making you happy has made me happy☺️
I got one,you can have it,I think the model name is navigator. I’ll check if it still works,it would look great in you guys’ home. Won’t fit in the P.O. Box though!
You know,I’ve ‘swatches’ this video a few times, but not recently,I think that your overwhelmed reaction was delightful! I hope you someday do a video of how you display them in your basement. Wow you got some fun comments on this as well, nice!
That was fun to swatch. I have a blue Swatchguard I had on my original Nautilus model. I unfortunately let the battery sit in storage and it leaked all over it, ruining the watch. I kept the straps and the Swatchguard though. I picked up a working one on Etsy, but haven't put the Swatchguard on it. I am almost afraid it won't hold up at this point, but maybe it would be fine.
Nice, thanks! I'm wondering about those old Swatch guards too... not sure if the older rubber/plastics will hold up, but I'll probably give it a try anyway just for fun.
Actually,a LOT of the early swatch rubber straps and guards, even the elastic pop swatch straps tend to do badly over time. The new silicone straps practically saved the company!!
Thanks Mark! Yes, I was thinking the same thing. I have a little table with a glass display top which might work, but I'll need to paint it... sounds like another project is happening!
I remember the sturdy SWATCH guards, made out of hard plastic that actually clipped to the face on the sides of the watch. I use to have a SWATCH collection but sold them on ebay awhile back. Fun video.
Yep, I have a Swatch collection, and the round guards are called Swatch Guard 2. They were available in 2 sizes---small (for ladies' Swatches) and large (for gent's Swatches). I bought guards for nearly every Swatch I have (47) at the same time I bought the Swatch. I do change the guards frequently, and the one I bought for a certain one may be switched for another. It's fun to mix and match. (Jan Griffiths).
I couldn’t happen to notice, the pop swatch with the rose motif,it wasn’t ticking. Get that battery out! This is a Vivienne Westwood design, and has. Value! The battery will kill that pop swatch! I adore you,Abby, that’s why I sent you a juicy chunk of my collection.❤️
Got it, no worries! I can take it to my trusted battery shop and have it replaced. I can't believe you noticed that it wasn't ticking from watching the video, and we didn't even notice in real life, LOL! You have a keen eye my friend :)
Can you make a video on how to wear those pop swatches? I currently have 6 in my collection but dont really wear them a lot just on special days. Thanks
That blue one is awesome and I almost died from a allergic reaction to peanut oil this was last weekend apparently chick fila uses peanut oil for there chicken and my mouth swelled up and I fell asleep a few minutes after the incident and I know I have not been around this channel because I have been studying and I have a nurse friend I will still love your videos and yeah just been on a different path on my second channel I'm not leaving I'm just saying that you guys brought a impact on my life and thank you for that ❤
Oh Ginger, that sounds like it was scary. Glad you're doing okay. Thank you for your kind words about our channel. We're glad to be a source of positivity for you. Wishing you all the best!
Ok one last story,I promise! The last pop swatch that you unwrapped,I think that it is called ‘squares’. Back in 1992,I worked ,in Boston on a dinner cruise ship. Many groups wold book cruises, and in this particular case,it was sort of an office party group. A most lovely lady was wearing that last pop swatch, and I was enamored, and politely commented her on her pop swatch. She was a bit tipsy on champaigne, and she hopped up and gave me a sweet smooch,by way of thanks! I shall never forget my pop smooch😊
Nope, she just liked the compliment 😊 Ok I lied, another swatch story:I just mentioned the Swatch museum in Cambridge Massachusetts. The owner of that museum/store was a regular customer at the restaurant that I worked at. This was around 1993. She did the most cool thing!! She gave many of us a free swatch, and kinda made us promise to attend the grand opening, wearing the swatches! Clever bit of product placement and promotion. I recieved a chrono, which in my opinion, was one of their finest innovations, people didn’t know how to use them properly though. Here’s why: Swatch is kind of ubiquitous for that ticking second hand. But with the chrono, the second hand was on one of the 3 tiny chronograph dials. The large second hand was actually the stopwatch function, and people left it In stopwatch function, not realizing this! As a result, battery power was seriously compromised, and they had dead batteries very quickly. I even saw someone exclaim”oh no! My watch died!” Then they pressed the stopwatch button,it re-started that function, and they said”oh,I guess not!” Having no idea what function it was in. Chromosome were complicated machines,a pity people didn’t know how they worked
The Pop Swatch you unpack at 8:28 was my watch I had when I was 12 or 13! I adored that watch. You've put me in the mood to try and hunt it down and buy it! You don't happen to know the model number or name, do you?
I can toss out a few names of the swatches, but not in order: Tutti Frutti Figueras Ndebele Figueras had a more matching strap, but was infamous for cracking and becoming useless. The basic early pops are,of course, named after their colors, black, red, yellow,I believe. The super 80’s one,it originally was the all white one,but yuck the strap was so discolored, even beyond washing machine state. Rose is rose,if I recall. The one with the sheep is called black sheep,a swatch X-large from maybe 2005. The origional version,it is quite valuable. The Swatch X-large line was a short lived attempt at rebranding a pop swatch sized style,as pop swatches were sadly trickling off in sales. They eventually morphed into swatch new gents, which were literally a scaled up version of traditional gents swatch. But I always loved the Xtra large, the chunky bigness was always more appealing to me! That yellow one looks perfect on you,and the black sheep is pretty legendary,so enjoy that one!
And hopefully lastly, because I am so happy to see you recieve the swatchalalanche,a funny story about that particular pop swatch with the yellow strap, white face, with no second hand. It was famous for having a ridiculously long strap, longer than the others!! Nobody knows why. I saw ladies wearing this one in the late 80s to early 90’s and the excess strap was flopping around all over the place! It’s actually ok to trim it down a bit.
Oh my goodness, I'm still so overwhelmed by your gift!! I've been wearing and enjoying several of the watches, especially Tutti Frutti which goes with everything and it's freakin' adorable! I also LOVE the yellow one and of course the Pop Swatches. Wow... just wow. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
Holy molee, why do I have so many stories?!? Because here’s a ‘Tutti Frutti’ story! In 1995,I was commissioned by the owner of a children’s barbershop to paint cartoon murals and whatnot in the shop. Kimberly was her name, and I thought she was cute, and she wore a ‘Tutti Frutti’ swatch! I said to her how much I liked her swatch, and in a rare flirty moment for me,I said”it’s just one more of many reasons that I want to hold your hand.” She was sooo enchanted by that! We ended up as a cute couple for a few years, all because of a Swatch conversation! We are still friends to this day. She owns a Rolex now😂 She got married to a guy who owns a car dealership!
A few swatch maintenance tips: Firstly, and most importantly, when the battery goes dead, remove it immediately! I learned this lesson the hard way,as many rare and valuable swatches have been killed by idle dead batteries. Also, pop swatch bands can be tossed in a washing machine, and you may want to do that with the straps that I sent,as I was a smoker for years, yuck. BUT, DO NOT put them in the dryer! Let them air dry,as the rubberized nature of pop swatch straps will get destroyed. Ok,this was a fun day seeing this video,it brightened my heart☺️
Those are all great tips, thanks Charles! Sorry I've been slow responding to comments this past week. My dad had surgery, so I've been looking after him. All good though, he's doing much better now. Thanks again. You rock!!!
I probably won't be selling them, since they were a gift from a viewer. They're certainly hard to come by these days! Thanks for stopping by our channel!
We're excited, but we haven't started working on costumes yet. Too bad we already wore Andi and Ducky costumes our first year, sigh. No ideas yet, but I found a sweet 80s prom dress at an estate sale recently so I'm hoping to come up with a way to wear it... we shall see!
Hi! After watching your haul video it inspired me to see if I could pick up myself a Pop Swatch and was able to find a couple on eBay! I just love them! But the dumbest question here, would you be able to show or tell me how you fasten the bands? My memory is shot, I just cannot figure out how to do the band up! Like does it go through the loop or did we fasten them underneath! I just cannot remember! My memory is not what it used to be! Thanks so much x
Thanks for answering Helen's question Charles! I was going to say, the Pop Swatch bands remind me of the seatbelts on airplanes or those old belts with the clips that slide on.
Also, here’s an idea that I saw ages ago: you can also just take some fabric, set aside the official band, and just thread the pop onto the fabric and tie it off onto your wrist. As you can imagine, the variety of fabrics open up a whole world of matching possibilities!
You’re right, about the seatbelts,I wonder if that was the inspiration! There used to be a swatch museum in Cambridge Massachusetts,it had every swatch on display ever made up til the present. They even, for some reason had a swatch that was impregnated with clear resin, and it was lived into sections,to give a unique view of the interior structure!! Poor little swatch,I felt bad for him😂
Since your a watch person would you ever get into other 80's watches like Timex, Casio Seiko, other watch brands like that or is it only Swatch if it is only 80's swatch that's cool beans.
I just collect Swatch because I love the bright, vibrant colors and designs. Also, they were my favorites from the 80s. Thanks for stopping by our channel!
