Thank you! As an “older person” who wants to stay young this is interesting. I never think of myself as old even though I am now 73. I just keep on doing all the things I have always done and have no plans to stop anytime soon. Maybe that is part of the secret. I easily do my 10,000 steps a day or more, curl regularly and have a resting heart rate today of 52. And of course continue to play music professionally! Keeping my body and mind active! Meanwhile a couple of my friends just a bit older than me have sold their house and moved to assisted living because they believe they have reached an age where they don’t want to look after a place and cook their meals etc. I guess if you think you old then you are old!
I just read a pager on the effect of psychological age, just thinking you’re younger can make you so much healthier! You are such a prime example of getting the most out of life independent of age! Keep curling, walking, creating music, teaching and being passionate about life! Thanks Nora!
@@citizensurgeonThanks! I do think mindset has something or maybe even a lot to do with aging. I A couple of quotes on aging that I thought about today “ Age is a matter of the mind. If you don’t mind it doesn’t matter.” And another quote by Jackie Joyner- Kersee - “ Age is no barrier. It is a limitation you put on your mind.” And this one “ You don’t stop playing because you get old. You get old because you stop playing” I will be looking forward to your next video!
@noraclark7677 Pardon my nitpicking, but the 10k steps was recently debunked on another channel by surgeons "talking with docs" which traced it back to doubtful Japanese sources. Science apparently supports 7k steps, then diminishing returns finally turning negative where seniors punish their feet beyond limited healing abilities. 🙂 My long walks for groceries with a backpack led foot doctors to suggest crippling surgery for chronic damage. My delusion that I was young at heart to handle heavy sailing gear wrecked my lower back. Above factors caused cascading breakdown of physical fitness, and further decline of health. I suppose a future video will make me regret discarding NAD supplements.
I think a solid book is Sabiston's because it's updated so frequently. That's where I would start. Just remember that knowledge is dynamic so there is no one authority, make sure to continue reading review articles in addition to the textbook.
Absolutely agree I’ve been working hard on trying to get a whole plant based diet with a little “meat accent.” Perfect time of year for lentil soup. Also have enjoyed intermittent fasting…usually 16 hours each day…hunger pains start around 1230-1p and I embrace them. Thanks so much for engaging

@@noraclark7677love that thank you :). I may use those quotes in the future if that’s ok :)
@@citizensurgeon Sure! They are not my quotes. First quote is by Mark Twain. The third one is by George Bernard Shaw!

Brilliant as always ❤❤❤
Which is it? Do you not love your life or are you fearful of older age? What can we do about it?
Hi doctor
I just want to ask you about what trusted book I should read as a start for studying general surgery
Thnx ❤
