Thor... he quickly became one of my favorite characters when he first appeared in 1998. I sure miss SG1, the only series that ever made me rush home from work so I could flop on my comfy old couch and watch it. Sure I taped each episode on my trusty Zenith HIFI VCR but I always wanted to watch it as soon as I could, many times left waiting, hanging in there for the next episode to find out how it all went hahaa!
Stupid people whoever they were that cancelled such a good series, clean, not all sexed up and sleazy, the whole family could watch it and we all did!
That was the nice thing about SG1 and SGA. Good family fun unlike ...
Amm.. except for Chapter 2 (dave's wife convertion)... Some scenes are not so "familiar" I thought...
Stargate SG1 and Stargate Atlantis are perfect. Let it be. Look at Star Wars and Star Trek now. The new movies and series are nothing compared against the old ones. I don´t think Stargate in the 2020s would do better.
The worst thing about SG1 was that O'neill never got to say goodbye to his good friend Thor... I still find that incredibly saddening.

I find this iteration of the Asgard Beam-technology quite fascinating, as it looks and sounds similar to the Wraith-Beaming technology. With the introduction of the Vanir and their backstory in season 5 of SGA I think it's not unlikely that the Wraith got their Beaming-technology from the (Pegasus-)Asgard and not from the Ancients.
I honestly doubt that the Asgard would ever even accidentally let the Wraith get anywhere near their technology.
@@DayneTreader Pegasus Asgard had to hide on toxic planets to avoid the wraith, they might not have had a choice. As for the other Asgard, yap.

@@mxviii I don't argue with idiots. Ignorance on so many levels is sad.
I always found the Asgard weapons effect really impressive - the way it just looks like it's subtly teleporting things away indicates that they're way more advanced than the Goa'uld with their crash bang wallop energy weapons.
0:48 Heru'ur

The Asgard were so OP, they had to be Nerfed by clone degradation and a war with replicators. Without those two things, the Goulds wouldn't have stood a chance against the Asgard.
Agreed. They were a force of nature in the earlier seasons.
@@alexanderg1935 I mean given that the BC304 is arguably the strongest regular ship at the end of the shows and it heavily relies on Asgard tech I think it's fair to say they still are, even after their death.
They could have used the time machine, what have been found by SG1, to get some tissue sample from their ancestors.
Or they could have avoided the degradation of cloning process by uploading the data of the body into a gate's buffer, activating the event horizon and having the body materialized. They have had the necessary energy and technology to do that. This is how they once saved Teal'c when he stuck in the buffer.
I always liked how they show the Asgard ship literally beaming apart the grounded Goa'Uld ships, literally teleporting them apart. An innovative use for the tech.
If i remember correctly, they beamed everything up, but instead of rematerializing it they simply hit delete on the buffer afterwards.
What's crazier is that their beaming technology was advanced enough to beam up and store entire Ships without difficulty.
@@CedricBassman I like to think Thor SAVED the beamed up Jafa and just dumped them on a nearby planet sans weapons...and possibly clothes.
To steal a quote "you gotta love those guys"

Then buzzes off. Asgard: "Laters!"

2 words to describe the asgard BAD ASS
This is pretty much exactly the same thing the wraith do with their fighter darts flying about and hoovering up humans for them to cocoon and snack on later. seriously the teleport ray looks exactly the same.
When you get called in on your lunch break to clean up someone else's mess.
Finally a show that uses a teleporter realistically. A teleporter is a mainstay in Sci-Fi, but never used in combat. I have always thought that it would be the greatest weapon ever. Case in point, the Asgard beam them up, but not down. No mess, no collateral damage.
Realistically Teleporters would also boost the production capabaility of any species to a near infinite level, make people practically immortal (just beam a backup, if someone dies) and enables us to create machines, where every single atom is excactly engineered to it's purpose.
It was said somewhere that the beam used on the hatak is a matter dematerializer. That is why the beliskner was able to hold everything.
This is called "Making an Entrance with Style". As O'Neil said: "Gotta love those guys ! "

Maybe they reunite atlantis
If not then im SURE they will make a new stargate serie.

Actually you refer to the Marvel guys as superheroes, while they are also aliens. Like come on, Marvel's Asgard is a distant planet in space. They have means to travel distances (like the Bifrost, or ships), but that doesn't take their alien origin away. So in fact not much changed from Marvel to SG regarding their species, except in Marvel, they aren't grey. They are aliens in both franchises.

The Asgard’s most dreaded weapon: Ctrl+A, Ctrl+X
My favourite scene from the entire show! :)
All of the Asgard's minds were uploaded into the Computer core of the Odyssey too. One day if the Tau'ri ever become advanced enough to understand the knowledge and solve the genetic defects of the Asgard...they may return!
Their codified knowledge and cultures were loaded into the Odyssey computer not their minds. In an earlier episode, they sacrificed their home planet by turning their Sun into a black hole to try and stop the replicators and moved their population to a new home planet however when the replicators attacked their new home, Thor said they no longer had the resources to do that again. They could not store all their minds in the Odyssey computer, that was already established before they installed their technology on Odyssey.
The race still lives not all Asgard's are gone
It always struck me as odd, why the asgard would not just create from scratch a new body to inhabit. a stop gap solution.
They clearly have lost cultural interest in actual sex based procreation so... why not slip on a new body until they fix their greater issues?
They can upload their minds sooo..... yesh....

It was a 'deus ex machina" ending, but a good one!
Indeed
I prefer Thorus Ex Machina.
No, it wasn't. But it's amusing that you probably don't know what the term actually means.
Well, consider that the origin of the term mean referred to scenes in which a machine was used to lower actors or statues playing a god onto the stage to set things right, this is more than accurate. :D
Meaning and origin aren't the same though, are they?
Goa Uld:Exists
Asgard: "Heard you talking shit like I wouldnt find out."
Replicators:exist
When I first saw this episode I thought the Asgard were using some sort of energy beam to vaporise all the Goa'uld stuff. But it looks more like a teleportation beam, like the wraith used. What did the Asgard ship do? Cart them off and dump them on a Goa'uld world?
It does look like a teleportation beam. Given that the Goa'uld probably violated the Protected Planets Treaty in attacking that world, it's more likely Thor dumped them into the nearest star. Or didn't reassemble them at all and simply erased the energy patterns. Science fiction often glosses over what a terrifying weapon system a transporter can be.
I like to imagine that he just stole their stronghold and troops and then flew off.
Most likely he dumped the Jaffa into the sun and decomposed the naquaddah from the ships to fill up his beam capacitors. Asgards are fair, but they don't shy from killing their enemies, if you fuck with them, may God have mercy on your soul and on your soldier's.
if the idea was to weaponize a transporter the smart monies on turning off the transport part and just keeping the beam that converts matter to energy. instant antimatter free annihilation sure doing that would proably leave a massive crater so it might not be good in this scenario but against the ori or replicators i think turning part of the ships into a multigigaton blast of pure energy would be smart.
@I RuBiiX I Well, in the heat of battle, shields would be up. And if the shields have failed, then there's no need to waste energy on the cost of transporting individuals off of the ship when you can just destroy the ship, or capture the ship and crew alive and dispose of them at your own leisure.
One of the greatest sci-fi shows ever. I hope they never woke it up like they did trek and ruin it. Remake it but don’t destroy the legacy.
That's why I believe we still don't have another show. And why I sort of wish they don't make one until this wokeness shit passes over. They wouldn't be allowed to make an unwoked up version these days.
i miss Stargate
Problem solved.
Also for those interested (as my comment was apparently deleted) Smallville: Season 4, Episode 1 at 33:34, the Same theme is played.
Well, that was epic.
That was one of my biggest beefs with Stargate Atlantis. In the final season they made the last of the Asgard into bad guys who sought to destroy the Wraith no matter the human cost. The Asgard I know were a highly intelligent and benevolent race.
Not trying to be mean, but that two-parter did simultaneously establish them as being Asgard renegades (already seen in SG-1 with the likes of Loki), and even gave them credible, abit uncomfortable justification with the line: 'and look where it got them' i.e they did whatever it took to survive, even if that meant abandoning their noble ideals.

Wait a sec... the Asgard beamed entire pyramid ships/buildings off the planet? I wonder if they beamed them into space (like in "Ex Deus Machina" - S09E07) or just held everything in buffers like the Wraith could do.
Wtf? Have you an idea how much energy would that be? Over thousands of stars
Also, the corona of the sun is hotter than the surface, which is basically when your heater is cold, but when you stand away it's hotter, which does not make sense, but is real as fuck. So their might be a way to gain energy in ways which are more efficient.

Thats like you in combat on the ground and you have a APACHE helicopter in sight and a A-10 making multiple passes. No one will mess with you.
Well.... The Asgurd know how to make an entrance
The Asgard got seriously nerfed in that Ori battle
So Heru'ur defied the treaty and invaded a protected planet, his troops were either killed or taken while he escaped.
I'll wager his Motherships and Jaffa were dumped in another galaxy and unable to return to the Milky Way and the system lords suffered repercussions for this, like the Asgard took more planets into the protected planets treaty by force.
I'd guess the Asgard returned them to their home planet, how they were dealt with is another story. You know the Goa'uld being arrogant, Heru Ur probably blamed his own Jaffa soldiers for the failure and punished them himself. After all he's their god, so why not?
It was not a protected planet there are too many planets to protect and some were left with minimal defenses. That is why the hammer was there as the first line of defense and a deterrent as the gouald did not now if the hammer would signal the a Asgard. It wasn't until this incident that they were included into the treaty.
