There’s no such thing as 6.5 Grendel Type II, but the industry latched onto that misnomer out of simplicity when trying to distinguish between the two different bolt face depths. Alexander Arms started out using well-engineered bolts made from scratch for the Grendel, based on the lessons learned from the 50 Beowulf. Bill A. tracked down one of the engineers from Colt when he was doing his research for the 50 Beowulf, asking them about what they did to handle the 7.62x39 cartridge in the AR-15 on Colt’s 7.62x39 Sporter from the late 1980s-early 1990s. Biggest problem was extractor lip thickness with the thicker x39 case rims, so Bill moved the bolt face back enough to allow an extractor that would have a thicker lip. This resulted in a bolt with a face depth of .136”, the original and standard Grendel bolt to this day. That same bolt design carried over the 6.5 Grendel, with added testing and inspections that back-filled to Beowulf bolts as well. After-market companies who didn’t do any testing and solid research used the same .125” bolt face depth as 5.56 for their imitation 7.62x39 guns (many with .308” bores instead of Russian .310” for the 7.62x39). After-market companies looking to jump on the Grendel bandwagon then used the imitation 7.62x39 bolts, which break extractors left and right. One such company (BHW) made 7.62x39 barrels and sourced bolts for them using the .125” bolt face depth. As customers started asking for actual Grendel bolts and chambers cut to match real Grendel bolts, they called their 7.62x39 bolts “Type I” and Grendel bolts with .136” face depth “Type II”. It’s very confusing because real Grendel bolts with the .136” face depth were around a lot longer than this naming construct that was meant to only be used within that one particular company (BHW).
That's enough out of you people. First, you're missing the bit about how the chambering is different, so if you're going to go around correcting people do it properly. Second, there is a type II. that's because there were two types, the one with the bad bolt and chamber and the one that's saami that everyone wants. You guys can claim there is no type II but there are two types and everyone but the pedants who read a little says there is a type II. If there are 2 types and people call one of them type II, guess what.... There's a type II. Like it not, it doesn't matter.
PSA stated they will produce 6.5grendel steel cased ammo. E mail them to entice them to. Sellior and bellot ammo just came out in 6.5grendel. Is small rifle primer great for reloads unlike the ppu
Steel cased ammo isn't fit to shoot in a rifle if you have any intention of having it a long time and shooting it without excessive wear in the chamber and feeding areas. You won't save enough money by shooting it and it doesn't shoot all that well either. Better to shoot fewer better rounds accurately than shoot garbage all over the place and lots of it. BTW brass cased ammo, the cheap stuff isn't that much more than steel and if you can reload it later.

I like pinty for plinking and even hunting scopes. They are always clear and they always hold zero as long as they are mounted properly. @@pewsandbrews Lol that's awesome. I think I have the same one. I put it all on the Rossi.22 and slapped a light on the thing and made it my coyote gun for a long time. The laser moves around a bit but everything else stays put and that thing is a real tack driver.
I have been looking for a rifle in 308 Winchester bolt action. Savage 110 Tactical 20” barrel is what bought. Cleaned up the barrel then headed to the range. The trigger is outstanding at 1.5 pounds now the accuracy for three rounds .495”. The trigger is a little lite for me increased to 2 pounds. Clean-up but bore scoped? Yes, the barrel looked like it was made by a tractor. From the muzzle to the chamber horizon marks throughout; returned. Quality Control failure.
Most anything looks terrible with a bore scope. No QC failure if it functioned and you shot sub-MOA. To each their own but what you wrote and did is quite troublesome. I know what you complained about because I do have the same rifle but with the longer barrel. If it shoots sub-MOA and functions well because the barrel isn't pristine with zero marks in it from front to end it isn't a QC issue.

@@pewsandbrews crappy thing is its so damn expensive for the Grendel which sucks. $40 a box for hunting rounds. I ended up putting a Vortex optic on mine and its holding good. Its been bounced around a little bit since I've last shot it so hoping for the best. Not a bad gun to take out hog hunting and at the price point, you don't really gotta worry about beating it up too much. The Hornady ELD Match rounds shoot amazing out of it.
@@whelanusmc Yeah.....the real good target rounds are $60 a box some places. Vortex makes some pretty good stuff, and 6.5 doesn't have big recoil so you should be good with that. I'm in the North East so no hogs up here to play with.
Wtf is that optic
It's a super cheapy by a company called Pinty, but they're clear and hold zero well. I tried one of their red dots a while back which worked great, so for $100.00 I figured I'd try it. Not battle ready for sure, but on a range plinker, it'll do.
I like pinty for plinking and even hunting scopes. They are always clear and they always hold zero as long as they are mounted properly. I've even had the rs22 bouncing around between the front seats on several trips and that scope stays put. Some of the other ones I've traveled with quite a bit and they stay put.
If you do your part, they'll do theirs. 😁
It does resemble a bow scope. Same reticle anyway.
@@goodcitizen3780 I did a review of their Red Dot and I was amazed at how well it held up to some decent abuse. This scope actually came with a red dot and green laser mounted to it for the $100.00 that aren't in the video. Mounted the laser on my bedroom AR and used the red dot on a 22 plinker.

Lol that's awesome.
Lol
