  • Today you see 2 big poplar felled with Stihl 441 and Stihl 660 in floodplain forest. The first tree was 175 in diameter the second one a bit smaller.

    I cut a lot of that here in MN, its called Bamagillia, we used to peel it in the 60's and 70's. If i had a bunch of it like that a guy could cut 50,000 feet of logs in one day. Now the Fed's call it Balsam Poplar

    it looks like the CM model. it has the same decompression valve on the top of it. Oh and the 28" ES light are perfect for these saws. I run a 441 RCM with the 28" ES light and I muffler modded it also. great running and sounding saw

    I think you'll find that stihl's tend to have more torque than a husqvarna equivalent - I imagine that why his saw is bogging down is because the chain is very sharp and is biting the wood very aggressively.

    The guy with the checkered shirt seems to be a little bit unexperienced. If you're working with a chainsaw, always keep your visor shut and wear protective googles too. Furthermore, never let your saw all down as he did at 3:24.

    • @NathanVdV
      @NathanVdV 7 лет назад +1

      true about the goggles and visor. about putting his saw to the ground like he did , true you should respect your equipment at all times but a chainsaw isnt made from glass. it should witstand the beating and abuse of everyday forrest life.if it doesnt you should switch brands. (and yeah its a late comment but ive only seen the video just today :D )

    The use of a plastic wedge in those bucking cuts can save you a lot of trouble as it keeps the chainsaw cut open without pinching the chainsaw bar. I know it means stopping the cut, tap a wedge in and it takes maybe 20 seconds. The last segment shows what happens when saw bar got pinched really tight and trying to wrestle the chainsaw out, a wedge was then used to free up the chainsaw to pull it out. Also a plunge boring cut at the stump might have prevented the barber chair splitting of log.

  • @vermexican
    @vermexican 11 лет назад

    Bore cuts will save your butt log and make for a more under controll fall. Nice poplar logs tho.

    One can hear younger lad's chain a bit too tense, his bar shows the pump is not oiling enough either.Along with the aggressive chain I guess that's what makes it bogging once it's all in.

    My Stihl 261 broke down after only 3 years of cutting firewood. Stihl said it was my fault because I didnt use the Stihl oil and alcylat gasoline! 026 was a much more robust saw and I had one for allmost 20 years and used shell oil and 95 gas mixed 2%. Not happy with the Stihl 261 and Stihl support.
