  • What exactly is an ORB fitting? This type of fitting has many different characteristics, applications, options, advantages and disadvantages associated with them. They help prevent leaks and are manufactured in a couple of different material types. Whether it's carbon, nickel-plated carbon, or stainless steel, these fittings have different functions. When the male and female connections are put together, it provides a leak-free solution and application. Since these fittings are accessible and versatile, there are a lot of advantages associated with them. But, that doesn’t mean there aren’t disadvantages too.

    You guys might want to fix your definition of NFPA. In the fluid power biz, it stands for National Fluid Power Association.

      Both the National Fluid Power Association AND the National Fire Protection Association make safety recommendations about fittings and adapters. Confusing but true :) thanks for your comment!

    Here's an idea - why not come up with some kind of symbol or marking system to ID the fitting and size? Whoever does that first will become a millionaire - at least if technicians get to choose parts (rather than the suits). "ORB can easily be confused...." yes.
