Holyhead Station on 21st September 1989
Continuing with my archive of video recording between the years of 1986 to 2001 this clip is of Holyhead Station taken on 21/09/1989. Contains early morning departures from the Container Depot adjacent to the station of no less than 3 freightliner services in the short spell that I was there. Also the first London Euston departure of the day hauled then by class 47s. hope the video takes you back to this period with fond memories. Feel free to comment, good or bad, all comments are read and greatly appreciated, but it is not always possible to answer each individually. Sit back and enjoy this latest production remembering all those now long gone Locomotive classes and other types of traction. Many thanks for all subscriptions and all of those viewers who have kindly shown an interest in my material.
I had left the shunt around a year earlier after 10 years and went on as a passenger guard until I retired in 2020 as an instructor. The video and its sounds bring back some memories of a happy time at the Holyhead depot.
The shunter is Clive Lloyd as he is a close personal friend.
As to the comments on HV vests, we generally didnt wear them because the were more of a danger than a help as they continually got caught on air pipes and other things! Nobody got sacked.
Thanks to the person who shot the video. Great memories.
Great video, thanks for posting.
It reminds me of my time, working Poulton No 3 Box. We had a daily Target 25 that served Salwick BNFL, Blackpool Coal siding, and ICI at Burn Naze. Sometimes train crew came to visit to watch the shunt, as it was considered interesting, and they may have been learning the route as well.
I was a GP Rlf Signalman on the Fylde area, and I covered nine boxes and all of the crossings between 1978 to 88.
I could honestly say I enjoyed every minute.
The movement was as follows;-
Target 25 would come from Runcorn area and stopped at the BNFL sdg. then continuing to Poulton formed as- Loco, coal wagons for (Blackpool), Caustic Soda tanks, anything from BNFL, and Guard/brake van.
The train would back into the Carriage Sdg, then take just the coal to Blackpool.
Returning Light engine to collect it's train, then continue to Burn Naxe ICI.
Then after lunchtime, Target 25 would return to Runcorn. (Including the BNFL tanks).
As well as all that, for Burn Naze, we also had:-
oil tanks for ICI power stn (Usually 11x100t tanks. Two or three times weekly.
Chlorine tanks (up to about 10 tanks).
Parafin wax (usually 10/11 100t tanks or 20x 45t tanks.
And all that in between usual passenger traffic.
It was possible to deal with 6 trains at once.
Fascinating info and much appreciated.....You are most welcome and many thanks for watching and for commenting....best regards...MARK

Yes......I cannot afford shopping....You're very welcome...many thanks for watching and for the comment...best wishes....Mark
Half of these staff would have be sacked, even in the 80s, half of them wandering around with no HV vests on the track and the shunter at 32:30 standing in front of a wagon that's about to be coupled to the 08, madness
And the tarp at 38:45 that doesn't seem tied down!
What a sloppy mixture......I would not like to have driven over the crossing ,constantly flashing lights.....You're very welcome...many thanks for watching and for the comment...best wishes....Mark
@paulefc1971 I know rules are rules, but its at the end of the line one train in section in the yard, no passing trains on lines near by, not a major priority & they are not in danger from other trains by not having HV vests on.
@@Thunderer0872 Agree....Mark
I wonder when the last 150/1 was in Holyhead?
You're very welcome...many thanks for watching and for the comment...best wishes....Mark
