Ahhh here he is...I love the satirical comedic in Max, and when he comes out to play its a treat for us all! This dial is actually so well done, it looks so much like the paved ginza streets. I've been many times there and definitely think Seiko nailed the re-creation. Also the best thing about the original Seiko factory tower in Ginza, is that its opposite the Nissan crossing, GTR nismo heaven.... Great video bro. Great review! The new Explorer is 19mm lug width btw. I think making it work with the watch makes sense, I have a couple of 21mm lug widths and a 19mm and with the respective cases they make sense. Making them all 20mm for straps but then affecting the overall aesthetic is not the way I would go. I’d rather they look right. You can great watch straps for not much money, if you’re buying luxury watches you can afford a decent leather strap as a change up IMO.
Yeah that's a fair point, sometimes I buy straps simply because I like them without a specific watch in mind. Makes those decision very hard unless you buy one in each size 😅
@@WatchCrunchOfficial Yeah I go the other way, I tend to have a new watch on order and then place an order for a change up strap that kinda goes with the new watch specifically. This Aplanist will actually be my 3rd at 19mm with a Zentih A3818 revival and the New Explorer so I guess chopping and changing straps will be a thing all the same. Great video. Mine's arriving tomorrow and I'm so excited. My collection needed a daily, and boy does this fit the bill. I agree with all of your negative remarks; the caseback is ugly, but I'm indifferent between an unremarkable open caseback and a closed one, heck I'd probably prefer an open one just because it's a mechanical watch. It's not pretty per se but you can't expect that at this price point. The bracelet is also not top notch, but again, price... The crown definitely should have been stamped with an S logo, just like the cocktail time (which I have). All in all, these bad points add up to just about nothing. And the dial is SPECTACULAR. I had to pay above retail but way below the market average of around 1700, so yeah lets fucking go!!!
Just ordered this as noticed it's still in stock at some places in the UK. Love the dial, that sells it alone for me but the dimensions are nice too as I like to wear 36-38mm watches. What I like most is the price, it's cheaper than the Mystic Forest boutique exclusive model and has a cooler dial, that watch isn't even a limited edition so this is cheaper, and limited edition. The lug width is a non issue. I like rubber straps so can easily put a 20mm rubber strap from Joseph Bonnie or Hirsch on it no probs and re-use the Seiko springbars on the new strap. Cannot wait!
Thanks for sharing this great looking watch! My Alpinist of choice would be the SPB121J1 (Green dial w two crowns). It looks tough as nails and a great daily watch that you won't worry about once it's on your wrist.
Hi Max, it's been a while but I'm in the middle of renovating my house , so much work. Excellent video and like everyone I had the SARB017 and it was a nice watch but it went out the door eventually and the same would happen to this one if I bought it, I'm just boring and I like very simple dials. It is stunning though and I bet it looks even better in the flesh. My son has been watching the JOMW channel and for Xmas I've bought him a Chinese homage to the Breitling B01 made by a company called Sugess, it's in my hand right now and the movement is gorgeous, a mechanical chrono with swan neck regulator for under £150. I’m honestly good with just the base models of this guy (cream, steel, and forest colored faces) but that clasp kills me. I don’t know why I can’t get over that insane gap. I too may buy one only to switch to leather.
Well...a great review again...the harsh reality of what your cash buys comes to light and that's all I say in a dial. You;re right that milled clasp is nice but it's hidden and when does one say hey look at my clasp. I was on the waiting list, got the email but couldn't pull the trigger. A JDM white dial or the Blk Red line would be my choice as more versatile. Thx for the content & talking heads.
I’d forgive many of your criticisms of this watch (band, clasp, thickness etc) if Seiko would put more care into the movement. I’ve found the 6R35 to be unreliable and poorly regulated out of the factory; I had to return one Alpinist that was gaining 14s per minute, and will need to get another regulated under warranty (gaining 35s/day). Seiko make excellent accurate quartz movements that should be an option with these watches. If companies like Tissot, Longines and Tag can offer quartz versions of the same watches, so should Seiko.
One can get an ETA PreciDrive quartz movement in a Tissot, nominally 5 seconds a year and definitely COSC quartz certified, for somewhat less than the same watch with the disappointing Powermatic 80 (made partly of plastic, slow-ticking). Seiko should learn from that. I know that 8J41 thermocompensated quartz movements once found in Grand Seiko watches are in some Seiko Dolce watches nowadays, so Seiko is not clueless. I wish Seiko and Citizen offered more good watches outside Japan. What’s available here in the U. S. is not much of a selection.
I need to see this watch in person. To me it doesn’t look great but everyone is raving about it so I am intrigued. Hopefully my mind will be changed seeing it in person.
@@WatchCrunchOfficial from the video and images I’ve seen I’m not blown away by the dial. It’s not to my taste. Still want to see it in person, I love having my mind changed. Plus it reminds me too much of Spider-Man!
AHHHH…!! You’ve answered the MAIN question I had about this watch since trying it on last week. Yes I fell in love with the dial, but whilst it was on the bracelet I was just like “I can’t imagine what outfit this would be like, ‘yeah the best looking watch I could wear would be the Alpinist’”. But on that strap the warmth of the tan leather contrasts beautifully with the blue / green of the dial and makes it wearable. In the steel it’s all too cold, and when the steel is - let’s be Frank - sh*te - well it didn’t make sense to me! Thanks SO much for such a great review. Awesome creativity and perspective as always.
OMG I never thought a watch like this will catch the eye of RUclipsrs! With the market just all praising big, expensive brands like Grand Seiko/Omega/Rolex/Tudor etc. I'm starting to feel like my taste on watches are too "unique" >,

Great video as always! I considered purchasing it a few months ago but the dimensions were what swayed me away. But I think you paired it well with that strap!
@@WatchCrunchOfficial Would you mind sharing the place you bought it from ? I'm looking for an extra strap to match mine. I already have a blue vulcanized rubber strap from Josephbonnie, but the color of yours seems perfect for the autumn / winter season. Great video, cheers :)
Max I would love your opinion here - saw this watch when it first released and didn’t give it the respect it deserves. Now I’m realizing I still love it and am simply enamored by the dial. One problem … getting offered to purchase one for more than MSRP ($1300 😬). Do we think it’s worth the increased secondary market price? I have been saving up for a BB58 Navy Blue, and was able to try one on for 30 seconds or so and felt “meh” about it. This Ginza looks amazing and is 1/3 the price point practically, although I don’t think they are comparable. What do I do?!
I really wish Seiko had made a bracelet for the limited edition 36mm alpinist recreation instead of just offering it on a bund strap. I really like these 38mm versions, but I prefer the thinner profile and smaller case of the 1959 recreation. I have been on the waitlist for a 36mm explorer, and if the 1959 came on a bracelet that may have swayed me away from the explorer
@@WatchCrunchOfficial that is fair, at most price points I don’t expect anyone to make a bracelet rivaling Rolex. But if they could make it halfway decent I would be fine since it would cost me half what the explorer would while still being a great watch. Anyway I will keep my name on the explorer list and in the meantime I have my eye on the Santos as a possible alternative (recognizing that they are very different stylistically)
I try to like a fellow Seiko fan channel but when you say its hard to march green…like every tree has it all wrong in their color choices. How was it a struggle to find a brown watch band?
Did you have any trouble finding one to buy? I spent weeks calling dealers and looking online. Everything on ebay was overpriced. I had a hell of a time. I have one hopefully enroute now but it has been a nightmare for me to get. Everyone else just seemed to be able to waltz into a dealer and get one.
@@WatchCrunchOfficial I have one on the way from a dealer in Singapore. I don't know if you are in the US but Seiko screwed the US market pretty hard on this one. I found a dealer in Canada who had one but they couldn't ship to the States.
Hi Max, does Seiko really call 3,500 pieces a "limited edition"? Following that line of thinking, Casio could also claim that its iconic and ubiquitous F-91W is "limited" to only 1 million pieces a year :) Thank you for your very well done video!

I personally don't like the blue Bb58. The regular but even more so the 925 are my favorites. Msg me on IG if you want more info on the 925
Are they still selling it by chance?
Great review! Where do you find these limited edition?
They are getting hard to locate. Had to get mine from Singapore 😅
The leather strap looks awesome
Thanks Julian!
Very well done review. Subscribed
Cheers Adam! Welcome to the party 🎉
Awesome piece. 👌
Thanks Don 👍
No it isn't but the Presage gmt IS. Always enjoy your stuff.
Thanks James! Yes that GMT is a spitting image of a GS 👍
Great point, but I wouldn't count on SEIKO to make a bracelet rivaling Rolex 😅
@@WatchCrunchOfficial that is fair, at most price points I don’t expect anyone to make a bracelet rivaling Rolex. But if they could make it halfway decent I would be fine since it would cost me half what the explorer would while still being a great watch. Anyway I will keep my name on the explorer list and in the meantime I have my eye on the Santos as a possible alternative (recognizing that they are very different stylistically)
I told myself no more watches until next year 😩 thanks, Max 😉
Haha, we can just round up 😉
I try to like a fellow Seiko fan channel but when you say its hard to march green…like every tree has it all wrong in their color choices. How was it a struggle to find a brown watch band?
If we're talking about high quality finishing on a budget, then it would be Casio Oceanus that comes close to GS level finishing.
That's what I've heard, I'll have to get my hands on one 👍
🤣🤣🤣
Can you even find one at an authorized dealer, or are they all sold. See some on ebay for $1150+
Yeah, had to get mine from overseas, Singapore I think 😬
@@WatchCrunchOfficial Well good video max, now I want one...
Hit me up on insta if you want mine, I'm already on to the next review 😉
@@WatchCrunchOfficial Alright I'm on the road right now, I'll send you a message once I'm done!
I looked up and down the internet, eventually found one from a dealer in HK
@@WatchCrunchOfficial I have one on the way from a dealer in Singapore. I don't know if you are in the US but Seiko screwed the US market pretty hard on this one. I found a dealer in Canada who had one but they couldn't ship to the States.
@@XHobbiesPrime can I ask which dealer? I’m looking for one locally in Canada and can’t find one!
@@louiec6010 Did you try Christine's Jewelers in Canada? They had one about a week ago but they don't ship to the USA so I couldn't buy it.
Link to strap? TIA
1. OG laurel alpinist
2. Sarb017
3. This Ginza LE
Hi, can you give me a specific on the strap?Looks like a perfect fit.
Yes, it's the delugs crazy horse cognac 👍
I have this one. It's amazing
sorry to say so - but I think you see different colors than most of us.
For me the dial is rather quite blue and the second hand is more greenish !
Yeah I might be color blind😆
What mic are you using?
Diety d3
Do you have a link to watch strap?
delugs crazy horse cognac 👍
@@WatchCrunchOfficial thank you sir, just ordered as Ginza comes in tomorrow
Hi Max, does Seiko really call 3,500 pieces a "limited edition"? Following that line of thinking, Casio could also claim that its iconic and ubiquitous F-91W is "limited" to only 1 million pieces a year :) Thank you for your very well done video!
Haha good point, but they are sold out everywhere, had to get mine from overseas at a premium, so it's feeling limited 😉
where is your ad based
Where can I get that strap? Sir
That's a delugs crazy horse 🐎
What’s the exact reference number I have been trying to find it but can’t
SPB259 👍
does anyone here have a bracelet option for it? hate that they only applied 2 microadjusts
Wish I saw this 5 months ago. Can’t find this watch now, at least not at a reasonable price. (eBay)
hello and thanks really very good review. Watched 3 times. Please answer one question it really matters to me - -which one this or Seiko spb209 - alpinist with a brown dial which one do you prefer?
The real question is which one do YOU prefer? What does anyone elses opinion have to do with your watches? Unless you're worried about resale, then valid question. But tastes differ between people soooo... buy what you like 😊
how big is your writst?
6.5 in
Grand Seiko's limited edition whirlpool puts this to shame.
Seiko ... exquisite.
I tried to get one of these... I was too late.
