i know this is an old comment. The story is good but its not surprising. If you're familiar with HK crime movies then this isn't really anything new despite the good writing OP prolly hasn't watched a lot of movies, esp the movies that this game tributes to
Gta 5 maybe more expansive and with crazy amount of detail in the open world but this game takes it in the fun department. This game is absolutely more enjoyable gameplay than gta5.
One of the best games I own and play. I would highly recommend this game to anyone looking for a new refreshing experience. You're an undercover cop in Hong Kong with so many things to do and explore in this game. I really hope they make sequel for this (if they have already then awesome!) and give it even more fighting mechanics and customization. I would give this game a 10/10 honestly.

Gamespot, youre a massive let down. Your reviews are useless. Look to anyone interested, this game is great. There storyline is great and involving. You don't just have to follow a strict straightline, there are two lines to follow the police and the triad. You can pick and choose which line you feel like doing and when you feel like doing it. Otherwise there are PLENTY of side missions not important to the story that you can waste your time on build money and face. You can test yourself in fight clubs, compete in street races, orchestrate a drug bust, help out citizens in distress and plenty more. You can purchase cars and bikes or tonnes of different mix and match outfits which have different attribute such as face points and fight bonuses. The missions themselves have good little arcs which aren't at all fetch quests or boring shit like that, you infiltrate buildings, save girls, clean up nightclubs and fight your way out of many hot spot locations. This game is by no way perfect but it is great. The cities are beautiful and the locations are worth unlocking as the story progresses. The voice acting is great and you aren't sitting there watching a million cut scenes (bloody COD) and just straight up playing. My favourite part is that the story ends at the perfect amount of time. It was literally just when I was like yep id be happy if the game ends now and boom that was it the last mission. This game nails the game length aspect. That's important for me because so many games end way too soon and focus on the multiplayer aspect more. The martial arts was done GSP and the guns don't auto lock on targets, the fight combos aren't difficutl which is something I like too. Do yourself a favour and get this game! 8/10

Very few video games have that so good feeling that you'll want to play more then once for unlockables as well as amazing game play regardless of how amazing game looks amazing graphics will only make game better on a 1-10 scale :D more video games In future need to have that need to play a video game more then once for example to unlock certain level perhaps a difficulty Including hidden unlockables In video games.

The fact that you can play dressed as Rico from Just Cause 2 makes me want to play this. Just Cause 2 was epic. But really, this game looks really fun. Quite surprising, being a game that was originally supposed to be a True Crime game.

I have to add this (not looking to annoy fans of this game) It's a fun, arcade style game with a GREAT involving story, brutal combat and an interesting protagonist, but to compare this to GTA 5 is ridiculous. I've heard some gamers rate this open world, the logistics, all that and the kitchen sink, way above GTA 5. And I cannot, for the life of me, see it! I recently completed the campaign and I feel NO obligation to go back into that world at all. Whereas GTA 5, I lived and breathed in Los Santos! I STILL roam single player in it. I know it's not fair to compare the two, time lapse technology advance, all that, but this felt like an ARCADE game. GTA 5 felt closer to a simulation of a real world game than this. And someone please tell me why this game thought it was fun/cool to LOCK costumes till after a certain time?!!! What was up with that?! If I have the outfit, why can't I wear it?!

Of course graphics and details wise sleeping dogs is not nearly as close as gta 5. you mentioned emersion in los santos, i think that's more a personal preference. I didn't want to go back to both of the games after I beat the story. But I loved San Andreas and spent countless hours doing none-mission-related stuff.

To get an idea how great PS Plus is, I paid for PS Plus in Australia for about 70 dollars, retail, Sleeping Dogs is about 59 new, 43 if on special. I then also got a copy of Wipeout 2048, retail for 58, Im also getting another game for retail about 36 dollars. All together thats about 153 dollars, without any of the other games included like F1 Superstars and such and also thats all in One Month, with a total of 12 with a year subscription. You do the maths, i more then paid for PS Plus in a day
Just got today, It rocks!!! Kinda like Grand Theft Auto, Saints Row, and the Batman Arkham games merged into one satisfying package. This game was almost the new True Crime game, kinda explains the Grand Theft Autoesque gameplay.
One thing that alerts me is the frame rate and screen tearing. It doesn't seem so great in the game, or at least in this video, and one of the main reasons GTA IV wasn't feeling like a 10 was the frame rate issues it had. I think I will eventually buy the game, but not now.
Really? Go on, explain. I like the way he doesn't inflate review scores as often as the major media channels do (Skyrim being an exception..that was a fanboy love letter from him..). I like the way he goes into great detail. He's entertaining to boot.
Depending on if you take the story full throttle, as if you play through without doing other things like hunting for collectibles or drug busts, but it took me seven days playing for about 4 hours each. If you haven't bought the game, get it, you won't be disappointed.
In my honest opinion, this is what GTA IV should have been. GTA IV slipped just a little too much for me to fully enjoy it, but Sleeping Dogs gave almost the same amount of fun and enjoyment that San Andreas did, which is still my favourite GTA of the franchise. I also think the game looks pretty good on both console and PC. And nicely optimized. Other people may disagree, but like I said, my opinion. If people don't like it, go play GTA IV and wait for V, but I'm sticking with this. Thanks Enix
This game is looking great. I was one of those rare folks who was really dissapointed in the GTAIV story, it was (IMO) bland and uninspired. I ADORED GTA SA though, and this game looks like it has a different, but very strong 'vibe'. Cant wait to play this!

Personally i loved sleeping dogs more than saints row: the third or GTA4. The story was dark & dramatic with the right amount of humour sprinkled through out the game. This game is on par with red dead redemption as my favourite sandbox crime game

Got this game yesterday. I think its better than gta 4. But one of thep things I like about Grand Theft Auto 4 is just a cruise around listening to music and in this game that's really gone
I don't know about the rest of you guys, but I would rather have creative reimaginings of cities (like Sleeping Dog's Honk Kong, San Fiero in GTASA, and Vice City in GTAVC) than street-by-street dull layouts of famous cities (like New York in GTAIV, Spider-man, True Crimes, etc). I think it adds much more personality to the game when you live in a world while inspired by real places, that's still built from the ground-up by creative developers.
This has to be one of the best open world games I havel played in a long time..I have been a Gta fan for as long as I can remember and I would have to say its my fav game series ever...but I have to say, sleeping dogs has me as a life long fan....I was only 20 mins into the main story when I realized that I enjoy SD a lot more than I enjoyed gta 4

Ah all good. I've heard mixed opinions from friends about the game, but I ended up loving it. I've yet to play the DLC, though. From what I've heard, TBoGT is very similar to the previous GTA games.
did you lower all the graphics and sound in settings ? what kind of comp do you have...when you start the comp dont run anything at all, put windows 7 to the old style windows use little of cpu as possible. There are many many things you can do to make your comp go faster, but ultimately in the end you gotta need Ram and better graphic card, and even a newer CPU and motherboard. Good luck

Great game, way better then i had expected. Hopefully Square enix back a Sleeping dogs 2. If they do i would expect initial sales to be much better then the first once people realize just how good this game is!

I got this game but I am having a lot of trouble using controls as I am shifting from GTA to this one but I noticed that the reaction time is huge and many times unresponsive....a lot of times I keep clicking but Wei does not attack which I found frustrating...I don't know if its the hardware limitations (unlikely my pc runs run GTA IV pretty smoothly) or a problem in the game....Anyway I stopped in its early stages though I found the story interesting

I donno why, but this game was my fav of 2012! Skyrim, GW2, Arkham City etc were great but something about this one just stuck out. Probably the story and characters.

All you guys fighting over where Hong Kong is... It was a British Colony until 1997. Great Britian handed it over to China, with many conditions made for the citizens of Hong Kong (they did not want to be under a British government, but wanted the same rights and liberties that Great Britian gave them, but China would not.) So they have their own "Hong Kong" dollar, and until 50 years after it was handed over (ending 1947) Hong Kong is "functionally" it's own country, politcally it is in China.
Batman-ish fighting -_- was thinking about waiting until it gets cheap but now I WILL wait. I hated the batman's combat too easy square, square, square, square, triangle, 8 more squares, triangle and maybe a special finisher for last guy if i care to press a different button other than square. Whats happening to button combos in games? Also the city sections on the map look goddamn tiny thats probably the biggest reason im holding off on this that and i refuse to pay full price for SE games

i downloaded this on games for gold, havent played it yet (so many games i have i havent even touched yet) but this actually looks quite fun!

Just got today, It rocks!!! Kinda like Grand Theft Auto, Saints Row, and the Batman Arkham games merged into one satisfying package. This game was almost the new True Crime game, kinda explains the Grand Theft Autoesque gameplay.
One thing that alerts me is the frame rate and screen tearing. It doesn't seem so great in the game, or at least in this video, and one of the main reasons GTA IV wasn't feeling like a 10 was the frame rate issues it had. I think I will eventually buy the game, but not now.

I like the way he doesn't inflate review scores as often as the major media channels do (Skyrim being an exception..that was a fanboy love letter from him..).
I like the way he goes into great detail. He's entertaining to boot.
Depending on if you take the story full throttle, as if you play through without doing other things like hunting for collectibles or drug busts, but it took me seven days playing for about 4 hours each. If you haven't bought the game, get it, you won't be disappointed.
Btw Hong Kong was owned by the British until 1997 when we gave it back..Thats why it is so different from mainland China.:-)
In my honest opinion, this is what GTA IV should have been. GTA IV slipped just a little too much for me to fully enjoy it, but Sleeping Dogs gave almost the same amount of fun and enjoyment that San Andreas did, which is still my favourite GTA of the franchise. I also think the game looks pretty good on both console and PC. And nicely optimized. Other people may disagree, but like I said, my opinion. If people don't like it, go play GTA IV and wait for V, but I'm sticking with this. Thanks Enix

This game is looking great. I was one of those rare folks who was really dissapointed in the GTAIV story, it was (IMO) bland and uninspired. I ADORED GTA SA though, and this game looks like it has a different, but very strong 'vibe'. Cant wait to play this!

Well you could say that, however you are paying for playstation plus and all of the stuff you get is classed as being free, there are also alot of discounts and stuff

Personally i loved sleeping dogs more than saints row: the third or GTA4. The story was dark & dramatic with the right amount of humour sprinkled through out the game. This game is on par with red dead redemption as my favourite sandbox crime game
at 1st i was hyped,then i saw the gameplay n thought meh ill pass, then my boy told me it wass great so i got it last night...now i never play 20% of my games like batman,la nore,skyrim ect...
but no lie this game has had me smiling the whole time...it really is worth the money...
some people say it should be this or that but i can say for sure its a all around good game...

Got this game yesterday. I think its better than gta 4. But one of thep things I like about Grand Theft Auto 4 is just a cruise around listening to music and in this game that's really gone

I don't know about the rest of you guys, but I would rather have creative reimaginings of cities (like Sleeping Dog's Honk Kong, San Fiero in GTASA, and Vice City in GTAVC) than street-by-street dull layouts of famous cities (like New York in GTAIV, Spider-man, True Crimes, etc). I think it adds much more personality to the game when you live in a world while inspired by real places, that's still built from the ground-up by creative developers.

This has to be one of the best open world games I havel played in a long time..I have been a Gta fan for as long as I can remember and I would have to say its my fav game series ever...but I have to say, sleeping dogs has me as a life long fan....I was only 20 mins into the main story when I realized that I enjoy SD a lot more than I enjoyed gta 4

Ah all good. I've heard mixed opinions from friends about the game, but I ended up loving it. I've yet to play the DLC, though. From what I've heard, TBoGT is very similar to the previous GTA games.
did you lower all the graphics and sound in settings ? what kind of comp do you have...when you start the comp dont run anything at all, put windows 7 to the old style windows use little of cpu as possible. There are many many things you can do to make your comp go faster, but ultimately in the end you gotta need Ram and better graphic card, and even a newer CPU and motherboard. Good luck

Great game, way better then i had expected. Hopefully Square enix back a Sleeping dogs 2. If they do i would expect initial sales to be much better then the first once people realize just how good this game is!

Some DLC is free but most of the larger packs are only discounted.
Good game, combat system can get frustrating but that makes you want to come back, great story and good collectables.

I got this game but I am having a lot of trouble using controls as I am shifting from GTA to this one but I noticed that the reaction time is huge and many times unresponsive....a lot of times I keep clicking but Wei does not attack which I found frustrating...I don't know if its the hardware limitations (unlikely my pc runs run GTA IV pretty smoothly) or a problem in the game....Anyway I stopped in its early stages though I found the story interesting

I donno why, but this game was my fav of 2012! Skyrim, GW2, Arkham City etc were great but something about this one just stuck out. Probably the story and characters.
it is still a bit buggy but that is only because it is a new game i have the most problems with the phone and contacts not showing up at all in missions and favours
Oh the fighting mechanics of this game looks way cooler than the one in GTA4
this probably the first sandbox-type game that i actually prefer not to use guns in. The hand to hand combat is just so much fun!

I don't get why people are saying gta iv sucked. Sure it wasn't as crazy as San Andreas but its fun as hell. I don't see what's the big deal of a gta game being realistic. But anyways, good review. Thinking about buying this game.

All you guys fighting over where Hong Kong is... It was a British Colony until 1997. Great Britian handed it over to China, with many conditions made for the citizens of Hong Kong (they did not want to be under a British government, but wanted the same rights and liberties that Great Britian gave them, but China would not.) So they have their own "Hong Kong" dollar, and until 50 years after it was handed over (ending 1947) Hong Kong is "functionally" it's own country, politcally it is in China.

was thinking about waiting until it gets cheap but now I WILL wait. I hated the batman's combat too easy square, square, square, square, triangle, 8 more squares, triangle and maybe a special finisher for last guy if i care to press a different button other than square.

Also the city sections on the map look goddamn tiny thats probably the biggest reason im holding off on this that and i refuse to pay full price for SE games
