- Thanks for stopping by! Hope you enjoy this little breakdown of my Kenny Beats Battle submission. Thank you Kenny & FINNEAS for this opportunity.
I'm still learning how to do these kinds of videos so please bare with me haha - Also, I just realized my screen capture only recorded the sound in mono, so the panning won't be audible throughout the breakdown. Will fix that next time. Please leave any questions in the comments and I'll make sure to answer them :D

every single thing he's doing is adding to the groove. the silences, making the beats a bit off grid, the bassline all help to build groove
100% 🔥
You should do more breakdown vids man! You’re explanations are really clear and usefull. Mblm does the same and it works. Thanks for this video!
Thanks a lot man! Any specific things you'd love to see?
ALETNA i know OP didn’t respond but i agree - check mblm out, he does a great job w breakdowns. Just popular beats of yours/ beats that do well in beat battles? Also where you from? You sound Dutch/ Swedish
@@ChromeHotsauce thanks, definitely got a few ones planned! I actually just uploaded one that has some kaytranada / disclosure influences if you're interested! And you're close, i'm from Germany :D
@ALETNA I agree with OP. As someone who has only been making beats for about six months, I learned a lot even by just watching how you maneuver Ableton in general. You can’t figure out what to learn if you don’t know it exists. I saw you use a few shortcuts that will help my workflow a lot. I’m sorry I didn’t contribute more specifics, but wanted to say you definitely should make more content like this.
Well deserved win. Excellent track with great mixing and creativity
Thanks a lot man!
einfach ein Berliner bei Kenny gewonnen. herzlichen Glückwunsch, krasser Beat!!
hahah danke man 🙌 Beste Stadt!
Excellent breakdown brother! Thanks so much for taking the time to do it, VERY insightful and helpful explanations
really stoked to see more people using hip hop drums in their four on the floor groove tracks. started doing it a couple years ago and i felt like it was a hack
Bro love your energy, always smiling. No wonder why the beat was soo good
That's such a nice compliment, appreciate it bro!
You're my new hero right now...a true artist
Amazing, clearly explained too 👏
Love how little details like the delay on the off-beat & the random percussion samples come together so beautifully in the final version. Really adds perspective for non-producers like myself!
Thanks man, that means a lot coming from you bro!
This beat breakdown is really well done! Make sure the Arturia folks know about this win so they can tout. :^) And I need to check out synthfleet. Thanks again.
Thanks a lot, still getting used to making such videos 😅 Will likely be launching the SynthFeed app next month, so I hope you find it helpful!!
bro you are incredible!! keep the groove going
Wow can’t decide what I enjoy the most - your breakdown, your soothing voice or the actual song you produced!! No wonder you won, well done and keep these videos coming. Very fun to watch
Thank you💜
Absolutely tremendous breakdown, almost even better (if that is possible) than the incredibly layered and sick beat. Phenomenal job, man.
What a nice comment man! Thanks 🙌
Straight FIRE! Dude the producer of the year loved your track. Congrats!!!
Still can't believe it! Thanks man, so surreal
So cool thanks for sharing your process!
I'm glad it's helpful!!
soooo fire. really cool technique!
Thank you 🙌
the guitar part is wild! great beat
Absolute brilliance 👏🏽 The 808s with the groovy fills really does give it that laid back groovy feel! More of these please!
Thank you Karl!! Will do :D Just uploaded a new video making a disclosure / kaytranada type beat
Richtig starker Track! Good work! keep it up!
Danke 🙌🙌
not sure why but your taskbar orientation just evokes heavy European vibes on me...... love the beat!
hahaha thanks :D
Lol
Complex yet simple beat. Nice bruv, you understand the space needed for instruments to breath and coexist harmoniously.
Thanks! Sometimes choosing the right elements at the right time is more important than getting the perfect EQ curve on every single element
fantastic breakdown man. i'd love to see your process for effects. subscribed and congrats on the win!
Thanks a lot man!! I had to cut the effects section out because I didn't want the video to be too long, will talk more about my effects in upcoming videos though
I really dig your personality dude! On top of that, the percussions were just *french kiss* amazing track!
French kiss amazing good description
hahaha i love it! Thanks a lot mate :D
holy shit this is so cool thank you so much for explaining how you made this, you're so talented and inspiring!!
Thank you so much Julia 🙌 Likewise!
This was a clear winner. Loved your song with Anirudh as well
Thanks man! Can't wait for Ani to put out more stuff 🙌
ALETNA I’m a fan forever bro.
legend. The breakdown was great.
W
Thank you!
YOU SNAPPED BRO
This is incredible. Would love to see more of your creative process! Very inspirational!
Thank you so much! Thinking of making a video where I start a beat like that from scratch 🙌
@@ALETNA Please do! I will tune in, I'd love to see that entire workflow!
Shoutout you for the win and this beat!! Keep going hard fam!!
Thanks bro!
@@ALETNA You're welcome!!
Great work! Hope to hear/see more ;)
thanks a lot!!
CS80! An 80's classic. Well done man.
The best!! Thanks
Really well made, and super nuanced for only 2 hours of work! Insane! Wish you had gone deeper into the mixing, I know it probably wasn't exactly how you wanted it to be, because of time constraints, but I would have been dope! Other than that, thank you for this my guy!!
Thank you so much! Yes you're right, a few other comments also mentioned that. I'm thinking of dedicating an entire video just to mixing tricks that i've learned a long the way but the short version is that sound selection matters so much more than e.g. getting the perfect EQ curve right :D
really bouncy mate! great job :)
Been waiting for this!
Thanks! Hope you enjoyed it
Straight up fuego. 🔥🔥
Gracias amigo
Amazing work bro! But you know we need that 3+ minute version now, yeah?
Hahah yesss thank you bro, will do!
And congratulations!!
Thanks from Atlanta
Very Inspiring! Wonderful techniques. Makes me want to be more creative with my beats. Thank you for the breakdown
yooooo this is amazing, I aspire to get to this level of groove man
Thank you! Will make more clear (and shorter) videos breaking down some ways I've gotten inspiration for these kinds of grooves
@@ALETNA 😭😭😭😭thank you so much!!!
A well deserved win bro you fire
thank you 🔥
fucking thank you!!! you're a saint
Thank you 🙏🙏
Thank you!
Thank YOU
more breakdowns man this is dope
Thank you man, already in the making 🙌
this is super dope
Dope. Love the beat break down
An amazing track man keep it up so great
Thank you so much!!
this beat is insane. It would be amazing if you could make a video explaining in more detail how you got that nasty groove. also where do you get your samples from and do you have any good youtubers or resources to learn techniques and concepts from?
Great suggestions, will make some videos about that! I think Reid Stefan is one of my favorite youtubers, you should definitely check out his stuff!
Very dopeeee 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thanks for the guitar sample mate
Fire. Arturia is super dope
Yesssss 🔥
👍🏽 I hope you get a ton of new followers, your music is dope.
Thank you man!! 🙌
Your mix is the bomb
Thanks mate, appreciate it!
@@ALETNA you should definitely do a mixing video I would learn so much
@@prodkkap417 Planning on doing one soon :D
This and your kaytranada tutorial are freaking awesome man. Any chance you could do a longer video recording your process getting the groove together?
Nice!
Thanks 🙌
Bro, awesome vibes, u should do it a whole instrumental song
Thanks a lot! Definitely considering it 🙌
Thanks for sharing all these valuable tips with us!! Can’t believe we’re getting all this for free - is there a way we can support you, like a Patreon or something?
Thanks Steven! This comment is already more support I could've asked for🙏
very well executed, great work!
was wondering how you got that kaytra-ish crunchiness, can you elaborate on that, what you had on the master, etc?
really looking forward to hearing more from you!
Thank you! On my master I have the original signal and three much more quiet parallel chains. One of the chain is a compressor, the other one a tape distortion (for the mids) and the third one an exciter (brings out some high ends). I mix these chains slightly into the overall mix. After that I just added some subtle multiband compression and limiting. This brilliant video inspired me to do that, and I've since adapted a very similar master chain:

I love the sound selection of the drums, where can i find sounds like that??
Hello yeah man you where really sick!! Also the second placed. You both where my fav 2. No that I found you somebody knows the name of the second Placed?
What do you mean by 4 on the floor? Fantastic work by the way!!!
Thanks Bryan! It just means that the kick is constantly hitting on every beat (1,2,3,4)
beazt
thanks boss
Awesome dude!, How did you mamaged your two hours ofaking the beat? Meaning, how much time was put in the making of the structure and how much in the mixing and maybe mastering part? It sounded really good!.
Thank you! To be honest I started this off with a different idea and only switched to the one you heard almost an our in to the battle. I try to mix the sounds to the best of my ability while I create the structure, so I only used the last few minutes for some final cleaning up (bit of EQ'ing and saturation). Most of the mix was done on the go, I think a lot of it came down to sound selection as well and making enough space for every element (e.g. the volume automation of the instruments to add silence). Will try to make a video about that in the future!
@@ALETNA would love to watch it! do you do sacrifices while producing of cool sounds only because they arent compatible in the mix? i'd love to know
@@jaben.10 :) Yes all the time! I think we have to accept that not everything works together all the time. If I really like a cool sound and can't use it in a specific track I try to save it though. This way you can use it on other projects :D
@@ALETNA awesome dude!, i am learning that the more templates and clasified i have my sounds and effects the better!. thanks
Live from Kenny twitch stream
🙌 thanks
Great submission! Question for you though; how easy is ableton for noobs? I learned production in logic pro x for ~3 years, and ohhh boy, they don’t make it easy to do shit, especially automation. Do you think someone with a background in producing could pick it up pretty quick? All my mac buddies use ableton and I think i need to make the switch...
Thanks a lot mate! I think it really is just a matter of getting used to it (I've only ever worked in ableton though so it's hard for me to judge).
I'd say you should learn the most important short cuts as soon as possible because once you know these, the rest of the work flow will come pretty naturally. A good friend of mine (who creates super clean mixes) switched to ableton this year after using FL for many years and now that he got used to it, he says that it's so difficult for him to go back and he loves how much freedom he has with the automation now.
But note that the DAW is really just a matter of personal taste! I think joji even uses garageband if i'm not mistaken haha
I’m guessing you aren’t 14 from Romania?
Unfortunately not haha - Though my mom was born in Romania, does that count?
how do u add that lineon the right, the ms thing?
When did you start to make music?
Hey there, I learned about Ableton in 2011, but only started to take it more serious around 2018 :)
how can i find this type of music on yt like what do i have to type in the search bar really???
I love artists like Kaytranada, Goldlink, Duckwrth, Anderson .paak, Giveon, Tom Misch, Fkj.. Each has their own style but definitely some similarities :))
Also stay tuned for the music I'll be releasing in the coming weeks!
@@ALETNA i ll stay tuned for sure. I wanted to say that u gave the mood of funky groove i have when i listen to andersoon paak
Are you a programmer? You have visual studio
Good catch haha, yeah swe by day and producer by night 😂
ALETNA i’m often struggle how to deal with producing music and programming at teh same time :(
@@gilangrama7039 oh yes man, i feel the dilemma!! My rule of thumb is that I switch back and forth between the two. When my ears get tired of concentrating on the music, I stop and take a break by doing some analytical thinking and coding and vice versa :D
This might be controversial but in many ways i feel like programming and music production have a lot of similarities. Both are never 'perfect', you constantly find flaws / bugs and you need figure out how to create a coherent final product. Also in both you need to overcome the worry of not knowing where to start, so i feel like they complement each other super nicely!!
excuse my ignorance but what do you mean when you say offbeat? anything not on 2 and 4?
That's not ignorance, totally relevant question! All I know is self taught so my music terminology is basically non existent. What I meant is that if one bar has 4 beats, i usually delay the second and fourth beat / hit by a few millieseconds and manually create my 'swing'.
So that it roughly becomes something like this (hope it makes sense):
From this:
1 - - - 2 - - - 3 - - - 4 - - -
To this:
1 - - - - 2 - - 3 - - - - 4 - -
@@ALETNA 🙌
@@ALETNA ahhh! thanks so much, love the way you explained it. you're a fucking G
but ye on a sidenote the "offbeat" would just be called the "backbeat" by most musicians if i'm not mistaken
@Wonjong Lee aaaaah amazing, thanks man I didn't know that. Glad we could help each other out 🙌🙌
Bro Billie Eilish hat einfach deinen beat gehört haha wie random 😂
ja man, ich komm auch immer noch nicht drauf klar 😂
Can y’all translate oops🤦♂️😂
@@antoniobronx3548 told him it's crazy that B.E. heard his beat.
Ooops. SynthFeed.
No problem :D
