Great video. Do you still love it? Can you move notebooks to a new folder? Also, do you know if the leather folio covers the pencil or if it is exposed when closed? Thanks!
Yes and yes. You can move the notebooks around, and pages can be moved from one notebook to another. I don't know anything about the leather folio. Well… the reMarkable is an electronic paper tablet and that is best way to describe it. It automatically synchronizes your notebooks, changes to PDFs, and notes annotated on your eBooks. You could create your own customized to-do list template, but it does not sync with Google Docs, Calendar, and Gmail. It functions really well for journaling, note taking, and reading certain eBooks.
@@PeterHerget Thanks so much, sir. How does the device send emails? I assume you have to register an email account? Also I understand a 2.6 version update comes with a daily organizer of sorts that serves well as a planner. Can you comment on that?
I just checked and my reMarkable 2 is running version 2.8.0.98 and there are the following templates: Blank One Storyboard Two Storyboards Four Storyboards Checklist Dayplanner Weekplanner 1 Weekplanner 2 Weekplanner US
I make a lot of drawings on paper at work. The desk is full after a week and I dont find old notes again. Question: Can I leave the RM2 all day on my desk and when making notes I can write directly on that. Or do I have to switch on several seconds, wait, open a document, and make notes? Getting a phonecall, making one note, leave the RM2 on desk and read it all day long without sucking accu capacity?
Yes, you can disable the 20 minute sleep timer so it just stays on. I charge my RM2 about every 6- 11 days depending on use. So, yes, I imagine if you disabled sleep mode and just kept it on it would still easily last a ten-hour day for when you not writing or navigating it is barely using any power.
Sorry, not at this time. I do believe that suggestion has already been sent to the reMarkable Design Team. It would be quite useful along with bookmarks and the ability to search your hand-written notes.
You are welcome 🙂 When I am plugged in, yeah, I am really plugged in 🤓 it also helps that I am lucky enough to be testing four smartphones and five smart-wearables this week too.
It probably won't happen, but I sent a suggestion to the team to add hyperlinks between pages/notes/books. I think that's what really makes notebooks in real life work...you can add a post it to pages which sorta works as 'this is important'. Hyperlinks in digital form work a bit like post it notes sticking off the side of a book. Being able to select a bit of writing and linking it to another page...well, now you have a wiki you make in handwriting. OneNote showed it's fun and useful, so...yeah, turn the Remarkable into a physical OneNote machine. :)
@@PeterHerget Honestly, I don't know why that wasn't a day one consideration. I'm a bit of a tech junkie, but am probably one of the most vocal critics of tech that only goes half way to it's final form. I bought this today because it's still useful to me as a sketch pad and to save paper (i'm literally surrounded by stacks of paper and notebooks and can't take it anymore!) but I'm also a fan of stuff like OneNote and Hypercard (remember that?) and I get frustrated when only one half of a design is the main consideration. If it's supposed to be a digital notebook, you can also lean into the digital too. And that, I think, is just making hyperlinking a part of the product. It's self contained, so there's not really any need to conform to some other product's standards. I'd be fine if links only work inside the unit and the PC/App side of things ignores it. That's completely okay by me. That said, the ask, from a technical point of view, would likely be a hack at this point and thus probably present a lot of problems on the software development side, but we'll see if the suggestion comes from more than me. Obviously one person asking such a feature is not going to bring about said feature, it'll have to be multiple people asking for hyperlinking for it to get any sort of consideration. As much as I'd like to think my ideas are the best and most important, in reality, that's not the case. :)
Yeah, are there reMarkable hack groups and they have done some cool stuff with the e-ink tablets. I hope the reMarkable company continues to learn, grow, and expand their products. Thank you for your techie comments 👍👍
Loved your video and the end credits. Thank you for adding those scrolling credits to most of your videos over the months. Great tablet review as well 👍👍😀
I used it for nearly 90 minutes today and use it everyday. There was only one or two days I didn’t use it for I was traveling and unplugged from all gadgets and even only wore two watches. I am making another video about the reMarkable and the Kobo Elipsa right now. The video should be public sometime in the next 44 hours or sooner 🥸
Been researching e-ink tablets for writing and came across your video. Great review. Seems like a really nice premium product. I could see this being worth it for the build quality, small bezels, etc. for someone who writes a ton every day. But $400 is still a big ask - especially since it doesn't come with the marker. That's more than an entry level iPad. I'm tempted, but there are cheaper options out there that have better organization options (tags, bookmarks) for way cheaper like the Mobiscribe Origin. I'm still researching though and am unsure which device I'll go with.
I tried the Likebook Ares e-reader & e-ink writer and had a horrible experience, went back to my reMarkable 2 tablet. It is a wonderful writing experience. I would hope the many reviews I have posted could speak volumes. I created a playlist so you can easily find them.
@@PeterHerget I'm definitely not done researching and will check out more. Resources like yours have been super helpful no matter what I decide in the end.
Honestly, yes, for it is digital paper, and went through SO many paper notebooks while in college. However, do you need an e-reader as well or are you just looking for something to take notes?
Yep, it should work nicely for that. Here is a referral link they sent me to allow folks to save $40 and order your reMarkable 2 tablet… remarkable.com/referral/758A-CQCA
Can - you adjust the size of the printed text after you switch from handwriting? I amwriting a small book, and am considering this device because I have vision problems, and find keyboards hard for me to use efficiently. Your review was terrific, you did Avery thorough job of explaining and demonstrating all he feats. Thanks.
Kindle e-readers have backlights as well as many other portable devices. Alas, it is not a deal breaker. Do you happen to own a reMarkable tablet, Nook, or an Amazon Kindle?
Thank you for your review. If you haven’t already answered this question, how do you find the converting handwriting to digital text feature? Thank you!
so maybe i missed it but i watched the whole video. You said you are going to talk about likes an Dislike i only heared the positive stuff, which was imformative but i am missing the parts that dont work so great. Also what about the pencil tip lifetime? Usually companies make poor tips that are rubish after only a few hours of use. How ist the display effect by scratching it with a sharp edge on the pencil? How exhausting is it to hold it while reading. What do you do to counter the no backlight thing when you want to read in the bed? There are lot of things more i could list here i just think the video is pretty long and still has missing parts.
The dislikes are few. Glad you watched the whole video 👍🏻 As for the stylus tip life it is about 3 to 5 weeks depending on how often you write and the pressure used. When my kids use the tablet the stylus tip wears out a tad more quickly. Truth be told… I have gone through four tips over six months. My dislikes are few: 1. No backlight (problem resolved with a nightlight 2. No eBook integration 3. No bookmarks 4. No keywords or tags for the notebooks Hope this helps. I plan to release another follow up video with more questions answered and a durability review after seven months.
Thanks for the comment. I've tried several angles while writing with the Kindle Scribe Stylus and have not had any issues. I plan to review it again soon and I'll demo "slant writing" to answer your questions and I am sure others have the same curiosity.
When you upload a pdf to the RM2, after writing a note on it, can it convert to text? Also I saw that there's a music sheet paper template...what if you write music notes...can that convert to a 'clean-typed' note?
From what I have used and read any notebook created on the reMarkable can have hand writing covered to text. I will try the PDF notes and let you know.
Dear Kevin, I just tried and nope, sorry... I can write, make notes, draw, and highlight on a PDF, yet there is not convert to text option at this time. You can share the page or pages you made notes on quite easily.
I just stumbled upon this product today and I'm seriously charmed by it. I'm an aspiring writer and struggling with the efficiency of writing on my laptop versus the flexibility of (and bursts of inspiration that I get from) writing by hand. This product would be a perfect link between the two. A remaining question that I have is: I read that the Remarkable can only work with Ebooks that are free of digital rights management restrictions. What does that mean, in practice? Can I read Ebooks (like, fantasy novels) I bought that have the mentioned restrictions, but just can't make digital notes in them? Or can't I read those Ebooks at all?
Glad you stumbled upon my video 😀 The eBooks discussion is one of much sensitivity for many want and are waiting for reMarkable to integrate with Amazon or Barnes & Noble. However, one cannot buy the reMarkable 2 tablet with the hope of an upgrade... As of right now if you can get an eBook file downloaded to your desktop or smartphone without DRM, then yes, it works, and reads, great on the tablet. We shall all all see what happens later this year as the reMarkable company and their influence continue to grow 🤞🤞
@@PeterHerget Thanks so much for your reply! I was a little bit afraid of that, regarding ebooks ... here in the Netherlands (maybe also international, I'm not sure) they also sell ebooks with a digital watermark (social drm) instead of a full-fledged drm, but I understand that's also incompatible with the Remarkable?
I like handwriting a lot more than typing. The only thing is, I write pretty small and cursive. What is the smaller cursive size you can write with a decent resolution? I normally write on a 8mm line spacing.
@@PeterHerget that would be great. That is pretty much the only reason I have been holding back on buying this kind of device. I wouldn't want to spend all that money only to find out you cannot write any smaller than 20mm or something like that.
Okay, it took me too long to answer your question - visually. Here is the video. I will have a bookmarks/chapters up later today: ruclips.net/video/2RGAa7ksORY/видео.html
You said no backlight twice. And that could be a plus. Also the no sync with other serveries should be one thing. But it does have a lot of flaws. You plugged it in after it already had installed. Clean your screen before recording at least! The full patch notes bigger if you had scrolled.
There are already a few tablets with color ink, yet the color ink is just okay at this point. Sony is working on some great features and I hope reMarkable 3 has a color display later in 2021.
The problem with the current colour e-ink technology is that it uses a three-colour filter on top of the monochrome e-ink, so the resolution drops by at least a third when using colour, and it's much darker than an unfiltered screen. Front-lighting can help improve this but has a battery penalty.
@@PeterHerget Thanks - of course, my reservations about current e-ink technology might not be enough to deter me from 'evaluating' a sample if reMarkable do eventually produce one!
I just tried and... nope! Sorry, to give you, and others, bad news, I am not able to copy text or images from a PDF. I can make notes, sign PDF docs, and much more though :) I feel the reMarkable 3 will be one awesome tablet - stay tuned...
Aw that sucks. Thanks for checking though! :) I’m thinking of buying remarkable 2 but if the remarkable 3 is coming out soon i’ll probably wait for that. Do you have any idea when it might come out?
It has been nearly one year since the reMarkable 2 launched. I believe the RM2 tablet began shipping in July 2020. Honestly, I would wait until the end of May to see what happens. If anything, as soon as the RM2 is announced eBay and other websites will be flooded with folks selling their RM2 for a great deal for they want to upgrade to the RM3. I am going to keep my reMarkable tablet second edition and give it to my son for his school work and then yes, I plan to upgrade to the new model.
About 45 days and then another few weeks after that if I use a nail fail to renew tbe plastic edges. It is all on preference though and how hard your press the styles again tbe screen. I could easily see one plastic nib lasting up to three months or as little as one month depending upon tbe User...
@@PeterHerget It's a bummer the tips don't last too long. I'm pretty sure I'm going to pick this thing up - so I'm definitely going to use the nail file. I also wish it came with the pen with the erasing back end. Esp given its price.
Thanks for the great review! I got a question about the zoom - does it zoom only from 100% to 150% as a next step? Or is it possible to zoom in smaller steps, like 110% and so on?
I got another question too :) - have You tried to use the reMarkable 2 outdoors, and is it sensitive to the sunlight? Does it get errors if it gets hotter being in the sun? And does the battery also react somehow?
More great questions! I used outside during winter, recently in the Palm Springs, CA desert heat, and outside in high altitude under Utah sunshine. As for the viability the reMarkable 2 performs swimmingly for there is nearly zero glare. I have not had any overheating issues. I am going to try more outdoor tests as the weathers warms up here in Utah. This far, nope, no issues noticeable 👍🏻👍🏻😎
I was comparing it to other devices and one lock-up every other month is still a solid device in my opinion. I have had more lock-ups with my iPhone 12😏
Is there any specific reason why in every review I see people write with such a huge font? Is it how you take your notes daily? Don't think so. This really make most of the review useless as we can't figure out what would be the outcome of taking handwritten notes - something that this device is designed for.
Dear Michal, Good Morning, and thanks for watching my review. What size font do you write in and I will do a 100 word test just for you and the other 1,739,999 people that also write in that same size font. My apologies for that thought didn't cross my mind. I normally write small around font size 11 to 13. My guess would be... I was writing in font size 15 or 17 during the video. I appreciate your honesty and look forward to making better reviews.
Thanks for watching as much as you did. To answer your question... yes and no. The reMarkable Team made a poor choice when they decided to NOT allow customers to choose their own iCloud for backup options. If you decide not to trust reMarkable to store all of your juicy notes, PDFs, and plethora of eBooks; well, there is another option. You can disable the Wi-Fi and keep your e-paper tablet in airplane mode, connect it weekly to your favorite PC via USB and then push all your personal data to Dropbox, Amazon, Google, or some VPS/server farm in Eastern Oregon or Alaska. That being said, nope, I have had any issues with the data storage via reMarkable🤞
@@PeterHerget Seems like a fair alternative. I increasingly find myself choosing gadgets that will work by themselves to some extend, when the cloud service behind them stop working some day in the future. Hopefully it will be a long while.
There was an update released last night and it is a tiny bit faster. I just checked and my reMarkable 2 is running version 2.8.0.98 and there are the following templates:

Best remarkable 2 review I've seen on RUclips. Thanks
Thank you and glad you liked my review 😀
Wonderful review!! Can remarkable 2 read .cbr .cbz format? Thanks!!! Great video loved it!
Thank you and glad you liked my review. I don’t recognize those formats, so I will need to do some research 🔬
Does this offer spellcheck after converting handwritten notes to text?
Sorry, not at this time. I do believe that suggestion has already been sent to the reMarkable Design Team. It would be quite useful along with bookmarks and the ability to search your hand-written notes.
Wow! Thanks for the quick response. I appreciate that.
WOW! That is a great idea and great use of links 👍
Great tablet review as well 👍👍😀
My pleasure! I too stay till the very end of the movies and watch the credits.
Nice electronic ink review - liked your intro with the pen drawing on the tablet too!
Thanks for watching
Are you still using and enjoying the remarkable 2 since this last review?
I used it for nearly 90 minutes today and use it everyday. There was only one or two days I didn’t use it for I was traveling and unplugged from all gadgets and even only wore two watches. I am making another video about the reMarkable and the Kobo Elipsa right now. The video should be public sometime in the next 44 hours or sooner 🥸
It is awesome review indeed! Well done! I am thinking for a while to treat myself to this amazing device! And I think you have made my mind clear.

@@PeterHerget ohh brilliant! It looks like it's gonna work, thank you ever so much ❤
You are most welcome!
I will be going to university next year do you think that reMarkable will be a good tool to use instead of paper?
Honestly, yes, for it is digital paper, and went through SO many paper notebooks while in college. However, do you need an e-reader as well or are you just looking for something to take notes?
@@PeterHerget mostly for taking notes
Yep, it should work nicely for that. Here is a referral link they sent me to allow folks to save $40 and order your reMarkable 2 tablet…

Can - you adjust the size of the printed text after you switch from handwriting? I amwriting a small book, and am considering this device because I have vision problems, and find keyboards hard for me to use efficiently. Your review was terrific, you did Avery thorough job of explaining and demonstrating all he feats. Thanks.
Are you asking if the font size of a PDF or eBook can be adjusted or a Notebook with text and handwriting combined?
you want backlight then get an ipad... you don't have a backlit on your paper notepad, do you?
I don't miss the backlight anymore.
Thank you!
It works well. Of course, it depends on the readability of the penmanship...
@@PeterHerget Ok sounds good. Thank you!
so maybe i missed it but i watched the whole video.
My dislikes are few:
1. No backlight (problem resolved with a nightlight
2. No eBook integration
3. No bookmarks
4. No keywords or tags for the notebooks
Hope this helps. I plan to release another follow up video with more questions answered and a durability review after seven months.
@@PeterHerget Thanks for the Answer!
You are most welcome!
Wish people would talk more about pen to text! Is it any good? Does it work if you have a slant to your writing?
Thanks for the comment. I've tried several angles while writing with the Kindle Scribe Stylus and have not had any issues. I plan to review it again soon and I'll demo "slant writing" to answer your questions and I am sure others have the same curiosity.
May you share how do you get your camera to take your face like it does in this video?
I used the DJI OSMO III camera software and it tracked my face automatically.
@@PeterHerget Oh very cool! Thanks! - And it's quite inexpensive too!
The reMarkable is $400 and the OSMO gimbal was only $90
When you upload a pdf to the RM2, after writing a note on it, can it convert to text? Also I saw that there's a music sheet paper template...what if you write music notes...can that convert to a 'clean-typed' note?
From what I have used and read any notebook created on the reMarkable can have hand writing covered to text. I will try the PDF notes and let you know.
Dear Kevin,
I just tried and nope, sorry...
Correct, DRM eBooks don’t have a method to authenticate with the reMarkable tablet for there is no Internet browser.
@@PeterHerget Alright, crystal clear. Thanks for the help :)
I like handwriting a lot more than typing. The only thing is, I write pretty small and cursive. What is the smaller cursive size you can write with a decent resolution?
I normally write on a 8mm line spacing.
Yes, I was just writing in smaller font yesterday with template that had narrow lines. I will feature such tasks in my next video for you!
@@PeterHerget that would be great. That is pretty much the only reason I have been holding back on buying this kind of device. I wouldn't want to spend all that money only to find out you cannot write any smaller than 20mm or something like that.
Good to know and I accept the challenge to write as small as my eyes can handle 😁
@@PeterHerget awesome. Thank you. Then, if it is good enough for me, I'll buy one
Uh... thanks for the honesty
How long till a colour e-ink tablet will be released, do you think?
There are already a few tablets with color ink, yet the color ink is just okay at this point. Sony is working on some great features and I hope reMarkable 3 has a color display later in 2021.
The problem with the current colour e-ink technology is that it uses a three-colour filter on top of the monochrome e-ink, so the resolution drops by at least a third when using colour, and it's much darker than an unfiltered screen. Front-lighting can help improve this but has a battery penalty.
Thank you for the pithy, and insightful, perspective. I have heard no rumors from reMarkable about a color-version tablet...
@@PeterHerget Thanks - of course, my reservations about current e-ink technology might not be enough to deter me from 'evaluating' a sample if reMarkable do eventually produce one!
2022 is going to be an awesome year as more companies push the e-ink envelope of technology, ergo, stay tuned...
Awesome review! I saw in your previous update video that you cant copy images from a pdf. Is there any update on that? Can you copy text from a pdf?
Ahh alright, i’ll definitely wait then! Thanks a lot!
How long does the pen tips last you with regular use?
About 45 days and then another few weeks after that if I use a nail fail to renew tbe plastic edges. It is all on preference though and how hard your press the styles again tbe screen. I could easily see one plastic nib lasting up to three months or as little as one month depending upon tbe User...
@@PeterHerget It's a bummer the tips don't last too long. I'm pretty sure I'm going to pick this thing up - so I'm definitely going to use the nail file. I also wish it came with the pen with the erasing back end. Esp given its price.
I agree 👍 the stylus should be included
Thanks for the great review! I got a question about the zoom - does it zoom only from 100% to 150% as a next step? Or is it possible to zoom in smaller steps, like 110% and so on?
That is a wonderful question Kristine. Let me check on the zoom percentages and I'll get back to you soon.
2 lockups in 4 months! that's not good at all. how about no lockups at all? especially as a QA engineer, set a higher bar please!
I was comparing it to other devices and one lock-up every other month is still a solid device in my opinion. I have had more lock-ups with my iPhone 12😏
Nice & informative. If you ever do a remarkable giveaway (even old device), please count me as first entry :)
That would be a great idea. Perhaps, I could ask reMarkable to sponsor a video...?
@@PeterHerget I don't see why not ;)
Done! I will email reMarkable on Monday and ask them on version 3 and see what their protocols are for sponsorship 😃🤞🤞
@@PeterHerget I'm excited as hell !
You have to use their cloud = showstopper for me. There is always a snake in any paradise. Stopped watching the video there …
Thanks for watching as much as you did.
Yep! About every six to 14 days I create my own backup of my notebooks 📓 just in cases
I really want to buy one, but it seems so slow..... Great review!
There was an update released last night and it is a tiny bit faster. However, yes, you are correct for the reMarkable 2 electronic-ink tablet is not iPad or Android tablet - it is a replacement for paper, paper notebooks, PDFs, some eBooks, and a creative medium for all ages. Glad you enjoyed the RM2 review. If you have any questions, please let me know and I would be happy to answer them in my next video…
@@PeterHerget Yeah, I understand that it can't replace iPad or other tablets - that's kinda why I want the RM2. For work only. Seems so nice to bring it for meetings etc. But, since the RM2s only purpose is to replace pen and paper I would expect it to be faster. But, typical greedy Norwegians...(I'm one myself :P). They should have spent some of the money they used on advertisement on the hardware/software. I will probably end up using your shopping-code to buy one anyways... ha ha
I am going on the newest update of the RM2 (reMarkable 2) running version 2.8.0.98 and all is well, the few issues I had with this special tablet were fixed with the new code. I used it for over two hours this morning reading & writing, and I am reminded of how much I enjoy it. Nope, it is not for everyone, but sure has been great to have less paper in my life. My favorite part is the no-blue-light screen. My eyes are glued to laptops, smartphones, smartwatches, televisions, remotes, fitness trackers, and another tablet that I use from time to time. Yeah, the break the reMarkable electronic ink gives my brain has been a huge, tremendous benefit. Now, I am not sponsored by reMarkable, and I have tried the Apple iPad Pro (newest version), a Likebook Ares e-ink tablet, and I even ordered the newly released Kobo Elipsa tablet. It should be arriving very soon. I wanted to gain more perspective about electronic ink in order to review gadgets honestly and give an educated review to the public.
