It's not pointless at all James. It's a fire-breathing fun monster and I can think of any number of annoying, stuck-up so-called purists that I could really p**s off with one of these. Hahaha.
Absolutely fantastic, no wonder you love it so. Thanks for a great tour James

Its pointless in the sense its only fun to drive fast...... for a relaxing day at anchor with 4 people it sucks , no space to move around.
Thats the reason that todays go fast crowd buys center console boats. Slim go fast like this is almost out production.

Don Aronow pretty much created that genre of boats. I remember visiting South Florida in the 80s and stopping by "Fleet Street" which was a visual history lesson of all the companies that he started and sold. I had the chance to take a trip down the Chesapeake in an Aronow 47, one of his last designs which blended a thunderboat like this with some more refinements so you could do a weekend or even week aboard. My. God. It was an amazing experience and one I'll never forget.

What a great boat to commute with. Only drawback, not big enough to hold enough fuel. I saw a much interesting version that was in the same spirit, but perhaps not a Cigarette, after sheltering in a Harbour of Refuge in Rhode Island from incoming Tornadoes, a d sailing from there to New York. Then this amazing noise was heard in the distance, as I was approaching Block Island, didn't see it then, but it possibly stopped there to pick up a fellow commuter heading to New York. We'll South of Block Island, I had joined in the search for a missing Diver- missing for a while but in good news, he had made it ashore fit and well 👍 - when this amazing Noise started up again, and the boat ended up passing me, at Full Throttle, and my spine is tingling again remembering that Noise, Then I saw it, Heading West off the South of Long Island, going hell for Leather and at its Stern, the most impossibly Large Rooster Tail gave the impression that it was The Rooster Tail Pushing the Boat at God knows What Speed (I was doing just over 6 knots in my sailboat, with my jaw solidly dropped at the helm) A running Commdntary was being given over the VHF alerting other boats, that a Fast Mover was heading in whichever direction and giving its current Position. It was something truly memorable from my Trip, and a bit unforgettable. Not saying I would like a ride in something like that, let alone Commute to Work in one every day, but there are quite a number of people in the USA who do indeed use fast boats to regularly Commute to and from work with. The Searay 39' Express boats do seem a popular choice for Commuter boats for example . Thanks for this video, it made me Smile. 🙂👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 Oooo! Riding Out the Tornado was a fun experience too, the first one clipped the boat so hard, the top of the mast went under the water on the Port side, completely submerging the VHF aerial, and knocked the Anchor out sideways, got reanchored OK, andvwedged in the Cockpit, wascable to watch the most amazing lightning storm I have seen in my life. Talk about vivid purple lightning flashes, it was amazing. Not one boat in the Harbour of Refuge Suffered any Damage, which was itself incredible. Best Wishes. Bob. 👍

Thanks Bob. I think you win the award hands down for the longest ever comment on one of our videos !!! I love the story about the tornado and the fast boat and I would love to actually test a cigarette off the Florida coast with the Miami vice music ! How stupid am I ! 😂😂 thanks again for your kind words. I have a video of a Princess 72 up in a week or two - which is like chalk and cheese to this boat 🥳🥳🥳🥳

80 miles per hour isn't fast. Back when it was built, it was quick, but now in modern day, that t old Top Gun ain't shit. Cigarette now makes boats that put out 3,000 horsepower and go 140 miles per hour. A Cigarette 515 would absolutely smoke that thing. It's crazy how much that company has improved their boats in the last 30 years. Marine technology has taken a huge leap.

Don Aronow..Don, not David. A bit of performance boat history: Don started Formula boats in '62, then he established Donzi in '64 and then Magnum Marine in '66. Due to his non-compete clause the first 'Cigarette' were actually Cary's and that first one was built then, in '69. The first one branded Cigarette came out in '70. Miami Vice & Don Johnson never used Cigarette's. In season one they used a Chris-Craft Stinger 390 X and seasons 2-5 it was a Wellscraft Scarab 38KV.

The mercruiser hp 500 is an 8.2 liter 502 cubic inch 470 horsepower motor. It was merceuisers premiere performance engine until late 90’s early 2000’s. That’s probably a 12 or 13 thousand pound boat. No way is that running 75. Maybe 70 mph with a light load.
