“The thinking man’s KPop” might be one of my favorite descriptions of Dreamcatcher ever. It’s true! They always make you think, whether it’s trying to decipher the mystery codes pre-comeback, trying to find and follow storylines in music videos, or understanding the deep messages that are in their songs. Another fun fact is that their entire discography is gender-neutral, making it accessible to truly everyone!
Every Dreamcatcher comeback always have that distinct sound...different from one another...this is because the producers keep experimenting with various type pf Rock, Metal & EDM subgenres...
@@valenandtheo based from the pattern that I listen from their title tracks, Nightmare Series: - First Half: Chase Me, Good Night, Fly High (J-Rock Influence) - Second Half: You And I, What, Piri (the birth of 'Dreamcatcher Genre', combination of Rock, EDM & String instrument..almost like Nu-Metal) Raid of Dream: - Deja Vu (Symphonic Ballad Rock) Dytopia Trilogy: - Scream, Boca & Odd Eye (EDM Rock, but the Rock styles in the songs actually moving backward like intentionally. Future, Present & Past) Apocalypse Trilogy: - Maison, Vision, Bonvoyage (Experimental Rock) VillainS Duology (ongoing): - OOTD (Experimental Pop Rock)
Deja Vu is nothing short of a masterpiece. It is a beautiful, fragile ballad that kicks your teeth down your throat in the chorus. It is extra difficult to sort out, because it tells the story from two perspectives. You know how even evil people think they are the good guys? This is reflected here. One perspective is Yoohyeon's, who gets corrupted right in the beginning. She thinks JiU is bad (does not want to share power) and backstabs her and kills, imprisons or banishes the other members so that she can rule alone. The other perspective is reality, where we can see JiU be kind to Yoohyeon, but she gets killed for it. I believe this is a commentary on the different perspectives people can have about the same event. The lyrics seem to hint at an abusive relationship, where there are usually two perspectives as well, and the abuser finds excuses to justify their actions, while the abused find themselves in an endless Deja Vu.
Deja Vu is a crossover with a game that does eventually get an anime adaption (and yes, Dreamcatcher also do an opening for it - Eclipse) All of dreamcatcher title tracks have a core of J-rock, that "anime opening" vibe you hear on every song. The fusion with Kpop and other further genres is what made me love them. If you want to hear the more jrock sound, check out "Chase Me" and "Goodnight", which were their first two title tracks. Their fourth, "You and I", is where i personally consider they go beyond kpop/jrock fusion and start to have their own "Dreamcatcher" sound which you clearly already recognize. Their second most recent song, "Bon Voyage", has a bit of a progressive rock feel. As for the women, they are all from 1994-1999 so several of the girls are approaching 30. Also theyre coming up on their their 7th anniversary in a few days. For a guide, either the extensive 2023 guide or the ultimate 2021/2022 guide.
Actually, Deja Vu is not the third part of the trilogy. Deja Vu is a special collaboration with the game/anime Raid of Dream. They have 2 more japanese songs for this anime/story/game: Eclipse and No More
While Eclipse was indeed made for the anime Raid of Dream: Successors of the Will, I think No More was only ever a standalone Japanese digital single. It was, however, added as an additional track on the Eclipse single. Dami, however, was involved in another O.S.T. for the game, with the song Not a Dream, which she performed together with members from D1CE and Classmate.
dreamcatcher \:D/ all their songs are different but yes in a sense many of their songs follow a similar structure. most of their songs are also non-rock, but their title tracks incorporate rock/metal in some manner. why they aren't as popular as other groups is because of what you noticed, they are more mature. the vast majority of kpop fans are teens and if you haven't noticed lots of groups debut girls as young as 13-14 nowadays. so dreamcatcher with members in their late 20s will just not appeal to that audience no matter what music they produce. but of course dreamcatcher never follows the trend so that is another reason why as you note they are a niche group. once you heard enough of dreamcatcher's discography, you might conclude dreamcatcher is for music lovers while kpop is for the mainstream youth.
Yeah, we love how well thought out and experienced they seem in everything they do! It's so sad that thing regarding age, that shouldn't be an obstacle to anyone, especially concerning music and other art😥. Many artists create their best music in their 30s or 40s. We are so excited to hear more of Dreamcatcher's discography and also learn more about this fascinating group really soon💜
I will say, yes, they are older, but that’s not the actual reason for their lack of popularity. It’s cuz the kpop industry relies on conformity and Dreamcatcher breaks that cuz of the rock/metal concept. Their whole concept is the only reason they aren’t as popular as they should be. They’re older cuz they started at similar ages in 2014 with Minx, that was unsuccessful cuz they were going against Red Velvet, GFRIEND, SNSD released a new song, Mamamoo, etc. so, they redebuted them with two new members and a change to the rock/metal concept. The re-debut was 2017, on Friday the 13 no less. Age does matter, but I wouldn’t say to that extent. SNSD is still going strong and they’re all over 30
Dreamcatcher is coming on Tour to Europe in February. The tickets go on sale on January 8. You should definitely go if you get a chance! I've seen them live twice, and they are definitely worth seeing live! 👍
I'm early in the video, so maybe it's realized later (I hope), but this is not apart of the Dystopia trilogy. The last part of that trilogy is "Odd Eye". "Deja Vu" is a standalone collaboration with a game.😊 But yes, they do change their musical style every era. Always rock and pop.
Hey, thanks a lot for the comment. Yeah, we did add a text notification regarding it at the start of the video. We gotta check out Odd eye next to actually complete the trilogy😊😅
@@valenandtheo I'm SO SORRY. I totally missed that! No wonder there's barely any comments about it. I was like "you guys are just gonna leave them hanging?" 😂
thanks for reacting to Dreamcatcher! btw i'm just an insomnia clarifying about some things, "Deja Vu" is not part of any series nor trilogies because it's actually a special album of collaboration project with Vespa, a korean game developer. the story about the MV is actually mirroring the actual story of the game called "King's Raid" itself! if you were talking about the trilogy with "Boca" and "Scream" it's the song called "Odd Eye", this trilogy represents the dystopian setting of the world which is filled with hatred and cyberbullying that has been happening now in the present. you might want to revisit and rewatch the trilogy in chronological order: "Scream" (hear no evil), "Boca" (speak no evil), and "Odd Eye" (see no evil). Have fun exploring them! they're sure a one of a kind in k-pop and i'm glad you appreciate their unique sound!
They have shared the stage with many Generations of idols , as the 5th gen idols enter the stage , the Flame 🔥 of the Legendary Dreamcatcher , Burns 🔥 on
Just binged all your reactions they are soo interesting !! All of these title tracks have some sort of rock element but all feel very different Would love for you to branch in to their b sides to see what their voices can really do !
Thank you so much for your kind words it means a lot. Yeah, we are planning on reacting to a lot more Dreamcatcher both on here and Patreon. It's such an interesting group.
Unfortunately, "Deja Vu"is not part of the Dystopia Trilogy. This is standalone for the game "King's Raid". It also has an AMAZING B-side, "Silent Night". Please check it out. Deja Vu is amazing though. It does amazing things with perception and storytelling. "They never fail to disappoint me"- Valen. When you are right, but at what cost?? :D
