    Wow. I accidentally came across this video, but I'm glad I did. So, the hat method is similar to the towel rub method that people use to start dreads... the rubber band use seems like a good idea too, depending on the hair type and size/thickness of the dread. Honestly, I didn't expect for your dreads to look SO neat. Good job, but you already know that😉 ...heading to check out more of your videos...

    Ive had some people talk down on me for intentionally making dreads. According to those "true" dread heads, if you do anything to get dreads other than just leave them be and free form, than it's a disrespect to the hair style, or culture... Whatever. That's all fine and good. But I want dreads. Not a massive lump of knotted hair that make everyone think I'm homeless.

      rottweilerneworleans easiest thing u can do for wispy ends and loose hair is crochet. If you ever go to a salon they will probably tell you they don’t crochet, but it is a form of interlocking, so they will offer to rootflip or latch hook. Crocheting is not a form of interlocking, despite what people will tell you. I wouldn’t recommend interlocking for thin or straight hair in general. So to answer your question, crocheting.

    im glad the rubber bands work for you but the only problem with using rubber bands is that they create weak points in your dreads, rubber bands pull the hair and rub up against strands causing damage, you have nice dreads but i can clearly see you have very thin weak points in a few of your dreads that appear as though they can break at any moment i assume these weak points you have are from rubber bands.

    • @DownfallDarkness
      @DownfallDarkness 4 года назад

      @@tbaker4171 Dude. My hair is thin as a motherfucker around the front/crown... Like Jonathan Davis type thin. Rubber bands work. You want neat dreadlocks? Use the rubber bands.
      You might have to do 'em a little tighter if your hair is thin (3-4 circles, I'd recommend.) Do them as tight as you feel necessary-just use your own judgment and common sense. Meaning don't go overboard on the tightness, & DEFINITELY don't go too close to the root.
      I like rubber-banding mine 2-3 inches away from the roots. I feel like that's as close to the roots as you should be getting. Obviously if you want tight roots-do as Charles instructed in the video; using the hat-rub method.
      I personally do prefer the slightly-loose roots look, but to each their own. I pretty much have firm roots; they're tight, but just loose enough to conceal my scalp.

I did what the barber lady told me to do but its not working for me so im not giving up, im going to try your method and hope this works. I like the rubber band idea too so im going to try that as well.
    I also live in a town where little to no one has dreads so i have no help maintaining them, unless i want to drive an hour to the city and pay 200 to see a dreadlock person (which i dont want to do!) So thank you for your video! 👍 follow me on Instagram @riverwater_squeakers

      Miranda Orona I just watched your video. The first concern I have is that they are really thin dreads. Not to scare you but dreads that thin without proper maintenance could have the tendency to break off. Actually with the proper maintenance they could still break off. But let’s hope for a the best that they don’t and everything will be fine. Going back to your original question... Yes you could do them yourself. I couldn’t tell from the video how well they have locked up? But the maintenance is really easy for dreads. I’m not sure why she put honey lemon aloe in your hair though? You can probably skip that. If they are locking all you really have to do is palm roll and keep an eye on the roots. The rest is just a waiting game.

      thank you for replying..lol my vidoes it was hard to see cuz of my lighting but i feel like they have started the locking process?? il go ahead and post another video so u can see better but i know there really thin i wanted them thin i pray that them breaking apart isnt to much of a bad thing?? ..lol yes the mixture she used i really didnt like my hair right now just feels very sticky i soooo want to rinse my hair in the shower but im scared it will mess them up ...but its been driving me crazy all morning on rather or not to go back to her or just finish working on my hair on my own so i really appreciate your feed back. im going to finish on my hair on my own .

      Miranda Orona did you wash the stuff out of your hair yet? I say do it and see what happens. Having a sticky head is not good and could lead to other problems.

    Haha! Definitely one of the natural locks hippies here (not dirty tho, the locs dread better and are more healthy when kept clean 😉) in scandinavia the winter is hard on the dreads, and the roots tend to loosen, this will problably help a lot. Thanx man and nice dreads! It's cool how so different styles can inspire and help.

      Neptune TheZimbo pro tip... Make sure the hat is clean. I would wash it with a soap that doesn’t have conditioner. Oh and the more textured the better.

      Jessica Spencer Why? Because there are hippies and dirty hippies. You can be a hippy and not dirty. But many hippies are dirty hippies or wooks if you prefer.

    What works for u dont always work for the next person. Rubbers for most gets tangled in the loc or breaks down in the loc.

      kissmehere35 I'm confused by your comment. What works for one doesn't work for the next... But rubbers for most get tangled? So you are saying for most people it won't work? That's a bit of an over generalization don't you think?

    Gorgeous locs. I'm 9 months into my loc journey and I have type C hair which has a texture of cotton candy. It has been referred to as the most fragile of all hair types. For you to ignore that density, porosity, curl pattern, thickness- all play a role in optimal hair health, is a huge turn-off. Not subbing.

    • @CharlesYamabe
      @CharlesYamabe  6 лет назад +2

      Silver star sounds like a risky move if you have fragile hair. Also sounds like a tasty issue... MMMMMMMMMM cotton candy.
