1:07 is the bomb.
bought for my son (10 yo) for Christmas. He has never had a snowboard before. Good quality. I usually have to strap the boots in for him. Otherwise good quality & works well on our sledding hills.
I love watching you ride. You are so smooth.
Fucking love your shredding !!!
Dude - I could watch you carving all day long!
That was freaking DOPE, love the vids!
Might be the speed, but it seems that you can float in the air. Nice as always man. I'll be in Colorado for the first time end of this month, stoked!
Man! You just LOOK good! There's nothing else to say. You can't look bad.
1:07 is sick! Ryan, do you also ride in Aspen?
I use to ride Buttermilk a couple times a year. Def always liked that place. I know I've ridden Aspen, but I don't actually remember it much. Since I have the Vail season pass, its too hard to justify paying $$$ to ride other places, even though I'd love to.
Danny Lee I too am a fan of 1:07
+Danny Lee Loved that move too... Could you enlighten us how to do it? =)
+Khai Nguyen The week after next and I should have the tutorial done. :)
Sick stuff man. You changed my view on non-alpine carving, so this season I've given up directional stance and tried riding switch.
Keep up posting awesome vids, you are the one I look up to!
I can't get enough of this video, you should make it longer, 5 minutes at least
Thanks! :)
Super awesome!
Here we go again! Ryan Chopping up the Mountain :D
What a carving machine you are!
Looks like a fighter jet coming down the slope.
Woow what a carving :-) respect your balance on bord... I riding for 15-years it's so fun :-) My question...which shape of board is the best for carving with soft boots ? I just order ROCKER ZERO...and now I'm not sure If I order the right shape for carving ?
I like those revert carves.
Mamma Mia ! Sei fantastico ! Un saluto dall' italia !
Just amazing ;)
This is AWESOME!!
Hey Ryan, awesome video! Any chance we can get a tutorial on revert carves before the season ends? I've been trying them without success, would love to hear some tips & tricks. Thanks!
I'm gonna try my best to get the right footie for it soon. Sorry for the delay. I shot it a bunch one day, but the footage is all shakey and shitty, so just gotta re-do do it.
The best .
Nice.
That was epic
Hi Ryan, awesome videos!! How tall are you and what do you weigh?
what's the waist width on that board? and you're in 9.5 boots, right? Awesome video!
Ryan, Thats clearly (in my opinion) your best movie so far. Great job. Yout tutorials have inspired me, having done snowboarding for a year i mannaged already to master Noserolls, 180s and i am working on 360 and reverse noserolls (blind ones, any hints for them please ? ;)). Im gonna watch that vid. few more times! thanks!
Thanks, and I'm stoked to hear my vids have inspired you! For those blind version ones, really try to do them out of a nice toeside carve. That'll give the edge the proper pressure in needs to drive into the snow. And to start, just rotate the 180 pretty quickly and dont think about trying to hold the board in that nose-roll position. Just work on good technique riding into in and out of it. The balancing on the nose part will come in time after you do tons of em. Happy Shredding!
Thanks will try'em out in few days.
BTW. I have noticed that very often when i do a noseroll i tend to land on a toe side edge. While when adding a pop it is just fine, heel to heel edge control seems to be somehow weird. Overrotating ? Thanks in advance for the feedback. Cheers, !
Dariusz Burnat Heah, you're probably just over-rotating. try to think about it being from one carve to the next (switch heelside carve). That'll keep it nice and safe. It can be done fine enough with going to the toeside, BUT I wouldn't want to do it while going extremely fast like that.
yeah, I sprained my wrist on that. Fast was my second name ;). shit happens. many thanks for the feedback and keep on shredding!
Best carving in the world
What board do you use?
I hope i can board nearly like this in 10-15 years .Awesome 😵😵😵
Buck Hill's already done. It's been in the 60's all week. No more snowboarding for me this season.
:( That's where I grew up riding 80% of the time (once I got good.. Afton b4 that), so many killer memories shredding there and Hyland almost every day after school. I feel for ya man. End of season sucks for those of us that LOVE shredding.
Yeah! I know man. We've talked about this before. I really wanna head up to Afton. I've never been, it's time to pull out the trampoline.
Amazing!
Advanced carving tutorial, PLEASE!!!! :) we want to carve like this! :)
Sickness bro!
たぶんこの人は神だ
So awsome
I was hoping for some non slomo footage. Thanks!
Wow, I knew your accent sounded vaguely 'sota.. but it's a trip to find out you also grew up by Buck Hill! Your channel rules. Been using your tips w/ success. Do you detune your edges significantly?
I use to slightly detune the nose and tail... from 1 inch in from the widest spot on both nose and tail and around to the other side. Now I don't actually detune at all... I think I get better grip on some of my buttering tricks when I'm still riding the edge just on the nose or tail.
Great videos !!!
Keep going!
Could you advise the binding angles , I ride 15/15 for a year, but this year I have changed to 14/14 and it looks much better.
Which preference do you prefer in snowboard angels?
Thank you!
Thanks. I ride 15,-15, which I highly recommend IF you ride, or want to ride switch stance just as much as you ride regular. If you mostly only want to ride in one direction, than something like 15,0, or, 15,-8 or tons of other options can be good depending on how you want your board to ride. Happy shredding!
Thanks man!!)
I rode 15/-15 I mean))
Made a mistake ))
Ryan, we LOVE your ride! I know you have been pointing out the importance of wide board, and it kind of makes sense. There are a lot of good riders that say to me: don't buy a wide board, cause my foot size is 8 (eur 42, 27cm..) Do you still think that I should go wide? I wanna go low and deep in the powder:)
Dusan Markovic In the powder you shouldn't have too much problems in general cuz the snow is light enough and even if you have toe and heel overhang, it doesn't release pressure from the edge of the board and cause you to fall. But on soft snow that is packed down, or groomers that is when problems can happen if you carve deep enough. At least with size 8 boots, you shouldn't have too much trouble unless you are carving pretty deep. But if you are carving and having the toes and binding heelcup or back of boots hit into the snow and causing issues, then I definitely recommend a wide board. My very first run on a wide board felt quite a bit different since I was on a regular width for about 20 years. It didn't feel bad, but different. After a couple runs, I already liked it better, and now when I try regular width boards I DESPISE them because as soon as I start to lay out a decent carve, I'm hitting my toes and heelcup... and that's with size 8.5 boots. So there's some extra info perhaps. If not having issues yet, go with a regular width, but once you are having too much issues, go with the wide. Happy Shredding!
Ryan Knapton Tnx so much for a detailed info! I think I'm gonna go with wide, I know it's a little bit slower initiation of the turn, but I turn pretty damn fast so I shouldn't have problems with that. I'll go with Nitro Team Gullwing, nice playful, but still sharps good. Ill let you know the results :=)
sickk mann, and what awesome groomers haha
eurocarve to reverse eurocarve was my fav
0:50 It seems the board is still not wide enough))
Yup!
ryan can you film a slasher bomb with slomo ? That would look awesome
WTF?!?!?! You almost go as low as someone doing alpine snowboard and you switch edge doing a 180 jump, you are WAY better than anyone in the small ressort I teach snowboard at. In fact we only see something close to that when a lvl4 come to teach new instructors for their lvl1 and that does make sense since we do not have snowboard instructor over lvl2.
How is this trick at 1:05 called? Saw it once in real life. Looks waaaay too crazy, but doable. Is there any tutorial?
Wow.. i lost my jaw
1:06 you're welcome
One day! One day, I will do that. =p
Did you do it? Years are flying by, my friend... :D
power carves power riding camber is the only way to go, to bad its getting harder and harder to find good camber boards, ever tried doing a hard carve to make a big circle just on your edge ryan there cool and fun leaving just a thin line in the snow, cool vids bro, thanks
Donek, Prior and Coiler all make fully cambered soft boot boards well suited for carving, and can build you a custom board at a very reasonable cost. Interestingly enough, when you get into the top end of the alpine boards (Kessler, SG, JaseyJay), the ones that win gold medals have some decamber in the tip and tail. There's some really interesting geometry that goes into those boards.
thanks,I will check them out I thought donek only made alpine boards glad you told me I will check the other guys too, have a good one bro
Wow
What bord and bindings you use??
How do you have your highbacks set up?
I rotate em to be parallel with the heelside edge as much as possible, and crank the forward lean as far as it goes.
Ryan Knapton You do this for carving only or all types of riding?
pungkvisen
Everything. I use to ride pipe tons, and without forward lean, it makes the heelside wall tough to ride.
So much steez
Holy shit :D
what is your gear setup now ? like board boots bindings angles. how often do you sharpen the edges? how is the flex of this board compare to the burton custom ?
Unity Origin Wide board. Burton Ruler boots that I don't like (I liked my previous Ions better). Mission bindings some days, Flow NX GT2 bindings other days. Angles 15,-15 and centered on the board.
oh, and the flex of this is like the custom... But, this was actually custom made for me, so I had the builder stiffen it up quite a bit. But the normal Origin is pretty similar flex.
Да кто ты такой!? 0_о
