This video helped me to decide on the Yamaha over the Honda. The fuel gauge and fuel petcock are two big advantages. Thanks.

Thanks for sharing. Is this conversion kit works on Firman W01682?

You would need to call them up and ask about the model. Assuming it's an 80cc motor it should. The only difference with their kits is the size of the snorkel. The demand regulator and hardware are all the same.

If you are expecting to see step-by-step how to install the tri-fuel kit, save the 23 min., this is not it. It contains some other good information, but you won’t see the kit being installed in this video.

Miguel C. Agreed. Sorry it was a discovery video for me. In reality anyone with some basic mechanical inclination can figure out this install.

Hey, no need to apologize and I did not mean disrespect either. The problem is that the US Carb instructions are not clear. It would be fantastic to have a step-by-step video or page that shows how to do it for this model of generator, but it’s super-hard to find. Perhaps, as you say, it’s easier foro the mechanical incline person, but not having work on a generator before, it feels like walking on egg-shell. Thanks for your video though, it had other information that was useful. Best

Anytime. and yes I agree. Hopefully in time they will come out with better more detailed instructions for customers who dont have as much experience working with generators.

I realize that this is an old video, I discovered that the tach meter from US Carburetion does have a replaceable battery. You need to use a sharp knife to pry off the back panel and voila, there it is! I won’t disclose how I discovered this but it was quite by accident.

That's good to know I'm sure many of these our meters have replaceable batteries with the exception of the ones embedded in epoxy. Thank you for sharing

How is the propane supply metered depending on the load of the generator? From what I see, it is not - it's just running the same amount of fuel regardless of the load on the generator. Also, what mechanism exists to ensure the flow of gas is turned off when the generator stops? Who would be ignorant enough to think that doing it this way this is a good idea?

    • @Bassguitarist1985

The demand regulator AKA the larger diaphragm regulator mounted to the generator is what regulates the gas flow. It is still using the stock throttle plate of the carburetor to manage the RPMs of the engine which is run by the electronic stepper motor. The demand regulator like all regulators is operated by spring pressure balance. The more vacuum that acts upon the demand regulated the more the orifice opens up to let more propane in. It's called a vacuum lock off so when the engine is off no propane flows. Some may elect on larger engines to put a safety electronic solenoid that locks off the propane flow for added safety.

Great Video. I just ordered my generator and conversion kit. I am not planning on permanently mounting the regulator to the generator. I plan on storing the generator in an external box on my camper and it wont fit with the regulator permanently mounted. My Question: I would like to disconnect the hose between the motor snorkel and the regulator on a regular basis for storage. Can you recommend a fitting that would work? I suspect it would not be a good idea to just pull the hose off the regulator on a regular basis. I don't have the kit yet so I am not sure what my options might be. Thanks!

+Jimmy NAZ don't extend the length of the motor snorkel hose it comes with, but you can cut it short or in half as needed, and grab proper sized barb end to quick disconnect ends. I believe this should accomplish what you are trying to go after

+xboxer1985 +xboxer1985 Thanks for getting back to me! Hey, I just installed my kit on the same Yamaha genny and tried to crank it. It "almost" started on first or second pull but then nothing after that. I have the load block open about 5 turns per the manual for initial start. My buddy kept wanting me to hit the primer but I could smell propane so I am thinking it is flooded. Is it possible I flooded it? Any advice on next steps or debug? BTW, I ran it for over 4 hours on gas for the break in with no problem. Thanks in advance for any input!

+Jimmy NAZ Never mind! It was definitely just flooded. Walked away from it for an hour, came back and it started right up on the first pull - no priming needed! Cheers. Now time to get that load block adjusted under load...

thank you ! it would be awesome if you show how to install electric starter on it?

It would require major modification of the recoil mechanism. There is very little room inside too. I am not aware of a starter motor that small for a 2hp engine. It would have to be custom with custom machined parts via a lathe. i don't see the point in having it other than being novelty. The static compression with the compression release on the exhaust makes it easy to pull start.

Painful to watch you over thinking everything. How about installing and running then evaluating the results, the age old scientific method.

You did a great job overall. Maybe waiting until all the tests were finished before posting your concerns which put a negative pall on the simplest multifuel conversion available . Temperature sure influences the performance on propane. Your end summary showed all your thoughts coming to fruition. That's what you could have shown. Keep up your work.

Your idea running that on propane gas is not recommended by Yamaha dealer prove it if you could run it on propane gas..
