I still remember the first time I played when I also set the whole base on fire with a torch... my poor friend was not happy. I do not miss the noob days. xD

I've played... more than I rationally should.
My expert conclusion is that they would last probably 3-5 times longer if mumbo were to do one simple thing...
Put the torch away when it's no longer night.
Besides him not setting things on fire, it also saves TORCH DURABILITY. Rather than going through a torch every night, you could get two night's use out of it.
(More if you're willing to bait the Night, and flicker the torch just long enough to cancel the attack, before continuing to wait in the dark. But it'd probably end very badly for mumbo, and even if not, it eats sanity. So kite the shadows and farm the nightmare fuel.)
P.S. As a Wortox main I would also recommend a butterfly farm for souls. Grian already had a net, so all they had to do was keep them fed, and it's a bunch more souls on demand.
I usually keep them in my backpack in case of death, and it brings the max soul carry from 20 to WAY more! Plus food does half value, but butterfly wings can keep you going decently well. Get a top hat for sanity, stop picking evil flowers, and you'll live for a while.
Winter is an issue, as always, which is why I was mildly surprised they started in autumn, though I shouldn't be. I like spring as summer is hard, but not as hard as winter in my humble opinion. just take shade under a tree and you'll manage.

Me: YOU LITERALLY HAVE SEEDS IN UR INVENTORY. AND BIRCHNUTS.
Seeds never gave you much to begin with, and the Worthox character gets reduced nourishment from normal food as one of its drawbacks. Birchnuts aren't edible unless you cook them (...I think). Even if he did eat them, he would've just prolonged his starvation for a couple dozen seconds.
@@stagosaurus3181 He was right next to a campfire that he could cook them off of. Food values are only halved, so the 14 birchnuts would've given him a lot of hunger (12.5 * 14)/2 = 87.5 hunger. That's more than a day's worth. We'll just chalk it up to Mumbo not knowing that birchnuts can be cooked.
and he ran past flowers and at least one carrot.

a few tips..:
A) you should play as one of the more simple characters (wilson, winona.. (more) grian will tell you what you should pick)
B) you 2 are playing vanilla and probably want to keep it vanilla, but, there are many mods which only give you information- and are unbelibely useful:
1) geometric placement
2) combined status
3) realistic placement
4) health info
5) global positions
6) no thermal stone durability - (this is how this is in the first game)
7) smarter crock pot
8) less placement blocking [DST]
9) wormhole marks [DST]
10) DST abigail call
11) smarter spotlights
12) smart minisign
bonus) gesture wheel - this just makes useing gestures way easier
C) change the controls, instead of getting used to them.
this all I could think of :D

I was literally loading a new world in don't starve when i got this notification.
- Protip: Just don't have your torch in hand during daytime or if you have a campfire, and you won't set fire to base.
- Pressing Control F attacks the nearest attackable mob, which you know, but simply pressing F attacks the nearest hostile mob.
- You probably already know this one, but raw monster meat is -20 health upon eating it :D
- Evil flowers lower sanity by 5 per pick. Eating one also lowers another 5 sanity. Picking regular flowers increases sanity by 5.
