    I dont have storage device policys in my reg edit. Any ideas?

    • @MongrelShark
      @MongrelShark 10 лет назад

      Stoopid usb. Going to try formatting with a tv or something stupid. Thats how I got a single 1TB FAT 32 partition on my pocket HDD's. Now if only I could remember how to find the format usb option on my tv... I think it may involve plugging the ant in and trying to record something.

    • @MongrelShark
      @MongrelShark 10 лет назад

      Probably the simple way, but I like fixing stuff ok. Also this video is a bit bogus as its the regedit of the computer, so it changes the write protect of any usb's plugged into that machine in future as well. I didn't have storage device policy's because that type of write protect has never been used on my machine forbore. I ended up adding a new key and Dword, didn't help one bit. But I do know how to disable a system from being able to write to usb now >:) Can't wait for the family reunion this year :)

      I suppose a high voltage thumb drive could get a few views.... Time to pull out the flyback and big caps?

      If you can’t find the key StorageDevicePolicies in you have to create it manually.
      1. Right-click HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrrentControlSet\Control\ and select New -> Key.
      2. Enter the name StorageDevicePolicies.
      3. Click on the new registry key StorageDevicePolicies and on the right pan right-click, select New > DWORD and give it the name WriteProtect.
      4. Double click on it and set its value to 0.

    • @MongrelShark
      @MongrelShark 10 лет назад +10

      Yep already did that. It stopped all flash drives from writing. Long story short. if you dont have storage device policies, it cant be affecting the flash stick. Creating new policies just adds more complexity to the problem. Still looking for a solution. I hear a PS3 or set top box may be dumb enough to format it without noticing its write protected.
      The advice in this video is not very good, and wont help 90% of people with this problem. If you do have storage device policies issues, it will prevent ALL flash drives from writing on that machine only. So realy all its good for is practical jokes.

    if you don't have the "STORAGE DEVICE POLICIES" on your regedit, you will need to create them. This worked for me.

  • @joeh690
    @joeh690 10 лет назад

    for everyone who doesn't have the reg-edit directory, Follow these instructions as noted by Sanzay Thapa, you need to make that String value, i was able to change it to zero then format it, it worked once that directory is made. 50% thank you goes to Sanzay Thapa and the rest goes to Britec09 for the video on how to do it when you have that folder. "u have to make StorageDevicePolicies key if u don't have any goto control>New key>StorageDevicePolicies>new Dword"

    Thanks for the effort... But, everybody on RUclips offering a solution to this "write protect" thing all give the SAME solution. And I think for the majority of us, it does NOT work. I'm still looking. I've got two partitions on my thumb drive. One is write protected and the other is not. Why is this fix so cryptic?

  • @I-AmTheLiquor_69
    @I-AmTheLiquor_69 10 лет назад +23

    This guy went and made those files before making the video. The only way this works is if you were the one putting the write protection on there and then of course you can go and disable it. Some other person made a vid and they put the write protection on there and then disabled it. This guy only showed you half of what he did. So far I haven't found one vid that shows how to disable it without you being the one that put it on the USB in the first place. I think this write protection is like a virus from removing the device without ejecting it from the computer safely. This guy put that write protection on before making the vid and then started filming saying oh this is how you disable it. Whatta joke.

      Varun Thorat I still have yet to find a solution. It would sure suck if it was like a 32 gb or something because I don't think there is a way to fix it. Maybe there is it's just the people that are smart enough to figure it out would just rather buy a new one which I think everyone is doing leading me to think that this prob will never be solved cuz people will just buy a replacement instead of fixing it.

    Thanks Brian, next one we all face is when I want to remove the USB drive and I want to use the safely remove the device option down near the clock and it says you cant cos its still in use.... funny sometimes, some USB's you can remove no problems and some will remember that is cant be removed safely, I end up turning the PC off to remove it..... every time lol... I started using this option cos I lost programs pulling it out when something was using it.

    and change the value data into 0 with hexadecimal base, Then close regedit
    step 5:

    Nice video with easy instructions just that it's not of use at all at least not in most cases. I tried this method but the stick still remained write protected. There are other methods like trying with safe mode which btw I didn' try myself ,I somehow doubt it would be of use as well. Have no idea how but like many others one day my usb stick turned out to be write protected. Don't know what have I done nor when or where which is frustrating. Whatever, some guys here advice us to get a new one but I ask what if we got into the same trouble? To get another one? And then another one....really, usb sticks in general seem like products with serial error.

    for all those people who says there is no SDP(StorageDevicePolicies)...
    in this video, initially this PENDRIVE was not right protected i mean it was made write protected by creating a new key in that very current control set shown in the video.... and after it was made write protected the video was made after that very setup. so its obvious that nobody will find the SDP since nobody has made the pendrive write protected...

    Why not use a simpler solution? Just go to "Disk Management" in the Administrative Tools section and format it from there. It worked for me on three separate Flash Drive (one was corrupted) on three different computers. All of them are Windows XP though but I reckoned it should also do the trick for later Windows OS.
