Just bought a pleco, I have a 55 gallon tank, but my parents had bought one years ago in the same thank (they gave me it), and it grew about 6-8 inches long, EXTREMELY tough fish, they had it for 6-7 years. I remember one time it got stuck in one of the aquarium ornaments and my father picked it up and tried to pull it out but it was wedged. Anyway, it broke a fin on the way out, and even fell on the floor and flopped around, and he threw it back into the tank, and they eventually gave away their fish to a cousin of mine 2-3 years ago. LAST I checked was late last year and it was still alive and well. Probably going on 10 years by now.
My mom had one that for a little over 10 years and it topped out at around 11-12 inches. It really depends on how often you feed it and how much algae/wood there is. I just got 3 for a 20 gallon tank but have plans to get a 50-55 gallon. I'm also going to stick to smaller tables and less frequent feeding times. They like to sit around it seems. Still cute tho.
I had two huge ones when I was a kid who I trained to eat flakes upside down on the surface of the water. I have two medium ones now but don't have the time I did as a kid to train them haha
Yes it is large enough for the pleco. Only one pleco, nothing else. If you want two plecos, get a tank of at least 125 gallons. If you want a pleco and other fish, have a tank of at least 75 gallons. I have a pleco and other fish in my 55 gallon, but I’m going to transfer it into my neighbor’s pond in the near future
I have a variety of plecos in my home but the hardest to keep is by far my common pleco. Lives with my Oscar in an 80 gallon. They need constant water changes and will need a tank upgrade very soon
@@Playboiuzii Definitely not. Swordtails should have a 10 gallon tank and should be in groups of 3 minimum. A 3 gallon bowl is much too small for any fish. You need to get your fish a bigger tank.
Just bought 2 a month ago and me o my! 😆 Really wish I'd researched first. Now I have to buy bigger tanks, didn't know they were territorial or would stress out my bettas. They're quite interesting nonetheless and are growing extremely fast. Kinda new to fish keeping.
I wish there was one which could live in an outdoor pond all year (in a non tropical place). I have a clown pleco in my tropical tank though. They only get to about 4-5" :)
The first fish you pulled out is Pterygoplicthys ambrosettii previously classified as P. anisiti, their incredible looking Pterygoplichthys and not too common but I've started seeing more and more over time. The other is too dark to tell.
I bought a common pleco by mistake. I got mixed up and thought I was buying the ones that only grow a few inches. I’m screwed, I have a 20 gallon tank and these guys can grow up to 15 inches 😅
I ended up with a pleco several months ago due to an irresponsible family member and noninformative sellers. He has been flourishing in my 20 gallon but now he's getting pretty big so I feel unprepared to house a huge fish. Hopefully, I can find somebody with a bigger setup who'll take him. Or, somehow manage one myself.
They gonna love eating that wood and those are still on the small size of plecos to wish people would do more research before they just buy an animal...not saying you don't know I mean others
Welp i know i wass to late i bought it to eat the the alge of the tank i have i brought it home looked up if it needs annt special care an then i saw that like holy shit they get big i know my tank is to smal for now its good and i wil upgrade it to a bigger tank i just hope i can maintain a big enough tank its mu first time in the hobby en i rather not abandon my pleco only of i raeally have to but id love to care for it welp il see whay the future brings
I got a 60 gallon octagon shape tank I had 2 palco in it for 11 years they got really big one was 15inch long the other was 11 inches long I tried to trade them off but nobody would trad so I ended up giving them away to a pet store
Hi I also have a very large pleco I acquired at a local petstore from someone who brought him in with a bucket. So I don't quite know exactly how old my guy is but he is at least 13 or 14 inches. I keep him in a 55 gallon right now with small goldfish and minimal plants/decor to maximize his space. I am in the process of buying a 100 gallon for him to grow even larger in. I'm curious if my pleco is getting the proper nutrition that he needs. He usually swims aroun on the bottom gravel when the goldfish flakes float down from the filter and he appears to be munching on those so I also throw in 3 or 4 pleco wafers and he finds them and goes to town. Is there other things I can feed him? He only notices that there is wafers when the flakes are floating around. Ok There than that he doesn't hunt around or search for food. He's not super active on the bottom. I think I need sinking food ideas. And any idea how old mine may be? Or no way of telling?
It’s hard to tell the age. I have some that are 3 years old but are only 9-10” long. You can feed zucchini and squash. Use a fork to weight it down. You’ll want to blanch it before feeding. You’ll definitely want a bigger tank.

Those plecos are huge! Great point! Many people buy these fish without even understanding their tank requirements.

It's crazy how big they look in that tank. That tank is huge, and they still look huge.

They are huge. Thanks for showing. Great video.
Lovely big fish - hope it pulls through

Can you do an update on this tank??
Gecko Guy, absolutely...I’ve got a tank in front of it right now but I’m moving it this weekend. I’ll post an update on it in a week or so.
My plecos live in 25 degree water...
That’s Celsius though!
Mine are 26

First thing is that there shouldn't be 3 plecos in a tank, general rule of thumb is one pleco per a tank
We had to rehome our 2 plecos - didn't realize how big they would get! I miss them though....
They get huge!

You would trade me a clown pleco for my common pleco?

I would love too but I’m from the UK😅

Petsmart loves to sell these as bristle nose when they are small.
That’s exactly what happened to me I only have a 20 gallon with a betta and a snail ! I need to move and get a new tank I don’t have room for now 🙃

How did they do? Did they all live
Levi Abbott, they all lived and are doing well!!

Plecos are awesome fish. I am interested, what plecos are you keeping? And you got a new sub here ;)
WorldOfAnimals EN, bristle nose, clown, rubber lip and of course these.
Nice I like the rubber lips ! I want some plecos for my next tank too but I'm not sure wjich one yet.
Bristle nose will get 6-8”. Pretty good choice for most tanks.
Yeah I know them, and kept them in the past. My father had one at his school which was 17 years old!
There are some species that will live 50+ years.
I have two of them In a 55 gallon
you need 150 for 1 and they will grow 2ft each

I have a 75 gallon and my common pleco is roughly 7 inches long. Is my tank okay for it?
I need advise i have a 50 month old pleco and when he get older hell get biger lol so what size tank should i get
The Answer is, no! But, lemme watch the video before I comment! 😅
Can you put them in a 5,2,2 foot tank?
