Unsurprisingly, I see a lot of comments about the superficial aspects of plastic surgery. Just wanted to remind everyone that, yes, they perform surgeries for cosmetic enhancements, but please don't forget that plastic surgeons also help burn victims, accident victims, and many other people with medical disorders. Their skills are vitally needed.
I think you are mistaking plastic surgery for reconstructive surgery, plastic surgery is a very broad general terminology which comprises different fields of surgery which have similar aspects and may be done by the same surgeon, but they are different in terms of goal and objectives , approaches. Cosmetic surgery which people more often use synonymously with plastic surgery is a subspecialty. Reconstructive surgery is another one. The examples you are giving falls under the reconstructive one.
I don't know why people are so angry at the people who get plastic surgeries. It's basically similar to getting hair cut or mani-pedi. Only difference is not many people can afford it.

Dr. Devgan you are so educated and have a great way of explaining tools I have never seen or heard about. We can see how truly passionate you are about helping people with their insecurities. Thank you for taking your time too demonstrate what tools you use in your plastic surgery career.
The breast implants part was mind breaking! The fact that nowadays doctors are able to place a brest implant so fast and under local anesthesia is truly fascinating.
Got my first plastic surgery at about age 5. Context: when I was was a kid, I thought it was a good idea to stand on my big metal tonka truck. I fell and split my lip open. Went to the ER for stitches, but doctors were concerned about my lips matching up. Called in a plastic surgeon to make sure the job was done right. Thank you staff at Boston Children’s hospital!
I just watched the 'Every Major Tool A Heart Surgeon Uses | Expert Toolbox' episode, and it's interesting that both specialties are highstakes but for different reasons. Like, Plastics is small structures, extremely fine tissues, extremely delicate, no room for cosmetic error. While Cardiology is live or die, very small structures, tubular structures, any errors can cause massive complications. It's very surreal.
Sometimes they work together believe it or not. I have taken care of patients post-op heart surgery who’s sternums were removed, and plastics came in and made a pectoral flap to go over were the sternum would be. It’s WILD
I was so wowed and horrified at the same time! LOL It's like I was so fascinated by the information yet started getting dizzy while imagining the actual procedures. Best subtle scary video ever! 🤣
I always suspected it, but after watching her demeanor while speaking on detaching the human face as if she was baking cupcakes I am 100% convinced that surgeons are border line psychopaths.
It's something she does every day, before she even started she had been reading, studying and practicing techniques for years on end, so she obviously became desensitized to this stuff. And that's good, because she wouldn't be able to do her job if she was squeamish or repulsed by human anatomy. And that goes for every surgeon (and even doctor) out there!
not really if you see it everyday you get used to it pretty quickly. I remember being freaked out by smelly infected wounds during my first clinical too and now it's just meh.
They offer their bodys as practice for trauma victims...its sort of donating your body for science but they do it while they are alive...amazing people
Very interesting and educational video, I had a breast reduction operation in the 1990's, and now I understand what my plastic surgeon did to achieve the best possible results, for me.
Fun Fact: The best steel scalpel blades are on the order of 300 angstroms wide, right on the finest edge. A typical obsidian edge is 30 angstroms. They will cut a single sell cleanly in half.
Face lift tools: there's only one pair of scissors in the window (the black ones) and the other ones are clamps called criley/mosquito, suture clamp, and the one on the right is a tissue clamp.
Ha! I can relate at a different level about your dad’s mallet. I have a great pair of pliers that were my dads. They work better than any modern pliers I’ve seen for the proper task.
I'd love to see the trauma ends of plastic surgery, not just aesthetics. Like facial damage, though I don't know if plastic surgeons handle the reconstruction of the damaged bone, or just soft tissue.
Its cool to separate a face from the body.. My favorite part is the scalpel and the cutting open.. Basically that woman had THREE life choices.. Become a doctor, a horror movie director or a serial killer.
The tools are beautiful and I can not agree more. Because every instruments got their specific function and you can ONLY get it done with such tools, respectively. Being a surgeon is not easy, it takes years of practice to fix someone and save their life. If you have ever made jewelry before, it requires specific tools to put the attachments, clampers, rings etc. Then you'd know how useful tools become to create that beautiful piece of jewelry.
She probably chose this profession for a reason. And you enjoy watching this, so don't judge. We're all a little bit screwed. Important thing is what we do with our screwiness though.
I'm not a big fan of overdone plastic surgery jobs you see in a lot of celebrities. Altough i suspect they do make for great training subjects and bring in a lot of money for research that can be applied for poeple that need plastic surgery after an accident or for poeple that need plastic surgery to (again) function normaly in society. I really like that she still uses her dad's mallet. This is just my opinion. if you feel otherwise, please keep the discussion respectfull.
