    Just a couple months ago I experienced an almost complete loss of the sense of smell. It never happened to me, and I was very worry.
    It was probably caused by a long allergic reaction paired with a cold. It really made me realize how important the sense of smell is.

      I lost my sense of smell from Covid and was alarmed as to how distressing it was! I didn't realize how often I use the "sniff test" to make sure food smells right!
      Luckily it came back after a few days, but I definitely don't take this sense for granted anymore!

    I guess the most important info from this vid is that our sense of smell declines as we age......and that of course, avoiding cigarette smoke or other forms of air pollution would help preserve it. My take away from this is that if you are aware that your sense of smell declines and that it does impact your sense of taste as well, you can be more inclined not to counter it by eating salty or saltier foods to make up for the lack of taste you might be experiencing....now, of course that leads into whether you believe that salt is not good for you in any form, as from what I understand there are those of us who are salt sensitive and other who don't seem to be effected (at least not with increased blood pressure) by salt......but its good to know if you are a salt sensitive person or if you simply wish to avoid increase salt regardless and understand what is happening to your sense of taste as we age..........also, sadly, there doesn't appear to be a magic natural supplement to take to preserve our sense of smell like there is possibly for helping with our hearing as we age as he has previously showed studies that Folic Acid seems to help with our hearing..........

      I've heard of research done with something called aroma therapy, where people are asked to expose their smell to essential oils, like rose and cloves amoungst others. Apparently stimulating those nerves helps with recovery, cause the insta experiments were done on accident victims, but it's been tested on folks with anosemia due to long covid or PASC recently too.

    Is there anything in the book about reducing your sense of smell? I've always had a very keen sense of smell (as does my mother), but since the onset of perimenopause, it's heightened even more. Just getting a hint of most deodorants or perfumed creams on people can give me a headache and/or make me nauseous. Though I wonder if I couldn't smell them if the effect would still be the same, I'm obviously very sensitive to chemicals. Cigarette smoke is the worst, even old smoke on clothing and hair.

    • @Tyler_Skye77
      @Tyler_Skye77 Месяц назад +1

      There are some things that could lessen sense of smell, but I wouldn’t suggest them. You could have something on you that has a smell that you like, to overpower other smells.
      Personally, I like to use essential oil bracelets with frankincense essential oil on them. That only works so well & for
      so long, though. There are also tiny matchstick-style incense sticks that you could carry around for when something’s too much (just be careful with how/where you use those).

      Yeah, charcoal could be a good idea.
      There’s actually an article on the “usnews” website showing different odor removers called “Best Odor Eliminators of 2024”. It says the best overall (for most smells) is the Arm & Hammer Deoderizer Busterz.
      An air purifier can help a lot inside, too. I’ve wanted 1 for a while, but can’t afford a good 1. There’s a good list of things you can do to help, on “Forbes”. It’s called “How To Eliminate Odors And Make Your House Smell Good”.

    • @JoanKSX
      @JoanKSX Месяц назад

      Just don't take them.
      I have encounter quite a number of cigarette smokers and vapers, and they are my family members, relatives and colleagues.
      They always have no idea I could catch them as smokers/vapers though they would deny but they would confess they are smokers/vapers and especially vapers they thought the vaping smokes are smelling pleasant but frankly it would smell exactly the same just like cigarette when the masking 'perfume' gone,
      most probably due to the nicotine content they put into vape.
      Anyway the masking 'perfume' part always smell funny too and I totally dislike the funny smell and always make me feel wanna vomit.
      It doesn't smell good like what the vapers claim to be since their smell sensory has been severe impaired I believe.
      And we non-smokers/non-vapers sense burning wires so much faster than those smokers/vapers and most of the time they don't even realise there is a short-circuit wire burning around those old machines and electrical/electronical equipments/devices or even dead rat in the trap.
      Truely alarmingly damaged smell sensory for those smokers/vapers.
      By the way I'm working in medical lab that's why with all the old air-conditioner burning the old wires and old electrical analyzer equipments and we have to stay alert all the time so that we won't be barbequed during our duty.
