When someone says the music video isn't really what the song is about I would agree. Unless, Metallica did the video..and they did... Like most songs, they leave it up to your interpretation.

Such an under rated song! A lot of people get stuck on the first 5 albums and there are so many fire songs that came after the Black album too.

Agreed 💯 James even said what it meant to him as well as Kirk... the video shows military. Nothing to to with the songs meaning.

Structurally very reminiscent of “One” imo.
“Halo on Fire” is another great recent song, which I find more comparable to “Fade to Black”.
