Your open honesty and humility is appreciated. Often we learn more by watching another's "mistake" or learning curves. This is quite instructional.
I've been welding off & on for 40 years, mostly mig and tig. I just bought the same welder and hope I do better with stick than I used to. It usually looks like my steel was attacked by Indians I have so many arrows sticking out of it trying to get it started. That was damn good for a first try.
I bought that machine like 2 years ago and i been kicking the hell out of it on flux core and stick ,…great machine just make sure to use 3/32 rod and a good thick extension cord if you can’t plug it directly on thr outlet
You are doing great!!! Congratulations 👏
Thank you for sharing. Grear job!
I have one of these coming in the mail! thank you for the heads up on the hows and how nots! :)
subbed too btw!
That is pretty damn good stick welding for someone who's never done it before. It took me quite a while before mine looked that good when I was learning. You'll be there in no time at all.
Wow thanks! I appreciate that! Thankfully a lot of RUclips videos out there of people who know what they’re doing to help me get started
@@jtmoffroad Absolutely! The great thing about stick welding is, I personally think, it makes you a better Mig and Tig welder because it's a lot less forgiving.
That’s good to hear! I need to practice it a good bit more
I have no idea what to do. It a looks great to me! Much respect for trying !
Thanks! It’s getting better too!
90 amps with an 1/8 rod is freezing cold. Should be at around 120 amps.
90 amps for 3/32 is ok.
I just got me a 140Mp. Brother got tired of me using his 220v all the time. Lol. I'm a beginner also. I never sticked weld till now. And my bead looks just like yours. So its all good. I always wanted to learn to weld and its good welder for a general purpose around the house. Good luck with it!
Congrats on your purchase and good luck to you too!
About strength looks are a plus I’ve welded on axles of semi trailers inches thick just gotta get it hot lol I always did little circle rotations and really watched the metal bonding when it would liquify I really observed closely just time and patience makes one a welder
The machine label as you read says 3/32 diameter rod and gives settings for different electrodes.
For a 1/8” diameter electrode you need 120-130 amps depending on what electrode you are using. 7018 needs more amps, 6011 a bit less.
Your beads look the way they do because you used a cellulose rod without iron powder flux.
This is fine it’s supposed to look rippled like that.
However your penetration is not going to be adequate at 90 Amps with 1/8” diameter electrode on a 1/4” plate.
As far as your stringers, you have good travel speed and can weld straight.
To be consistent Look at your oblong puddle glancing back and forth from where you need to go and where you’ve been paying attention to the molten puddle. If it gets wide, speed up, if it gets narrow slow down. You got to keep an eye on that puddle. Your hiccups were from repositioning yourself. Get comfortable and figure out how to control your flow.
looks great man! I need to get a welder. Looks like so much fun
It’s a great time!
It is!!! Tig& stick =🔥🔥🔥🔥👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👌. Mig =👎🏽. In my opinion. I can lay stringers all day for fun !
Not bad for first time all electrodes are different , each number signifies different characteristics of that particular electrode some u can drag some need a whip and pause movement . Some rods can’t be used in overhead positions there’s lots to learn . Some electrodes like that 6013, 6010, 6011 can burn through paint, rust , whereas 7018 rod requires for it to be kept in an oven once you open the canister and you have to prep the metal before you weld .
You probably heard this already but get some 7018 3/32 rods. It’ll run way cleaner and all you have do is just drag and be constant with the puddle
Thanks for the input! I’ll give it a shot!
Just takes time and practice. With anything working with hands only practice makes better.
You’re doing good for a beginner with stick! You just need to work on travel speed and need to dial the machine in becuz it’s run in cold but it might not be the machine it might just be travel speed or you’re angle of the electrode. From myself having experience and having 3 of the 6 certs to be a certified welder it’s good!
I def need to get some practicing in for sure but I appreciate the comment! Always nice knowing you’re on the right track haha.
i just bought this machine as my first official welding machine for myself. and im watching you cause youre like me figure it out and go from there. only thing i have ever done was weld a roll bar for a truck i had with a harbor freight non gas mig.... yeah nightmare....
Sounds like you and I are in the same boat! How do you like it so far?
@@jtmoffroad so far its ok, but i know thats on me as im still learning as i go. but im liking the cleaner welds even with the flux core wire. that harbor freight welder i used was bad. but it was the cheap 60$ non gas welder.
Small circles, listen to arc, watch the arc brightness and where ur going.
Don’t cut yourself short Bud at least your trying and from what I see, Your doing a Great Job. I myself just got a Lincoln Pro Mig. I’ll be in the same boat as you. I haven’t welded since trade school. So Yeah....! But anyway Nice Job and keep up the Good Work.

Hey thanks! Sure is a lot of fun and glad I got a good machines. Have fun with your new machine!
Thank you for sharing. The last time I weld the smoke of welding was toxic, this new generation of sticks have the same isue?
Improper settings if you have your volts we’re higher which controls puddle fluidity and maybe a few more amps those beads would be solid
Hey thank you, im so new im searching to see to see if i can stick weld with this lincoln 140, ive. Thank you,
Try the3/32 rod at the given temperature and practice you're doing fine don't give up
I’ll be sure to give it a shot thanks!
Agreed, if you're limited to 90 amps 3/32" is a better choice.
It’s a pretty good bead being that you haven’t done stick
Love the genuine vids! Congrats on the new welder been looking at the 140mp myself as I want to try to learn all the processes one can do, This pass summer I bought a Titanium 125 (I love and highly recommend this machine if you are looking to do basic flux core welding) welder to try and use around the house and because of that I fell in love with welding as a hobby so much so I made Christmas gifts out of horseshoes. I am anxious to get a multiprocess machine and want to learn and have the capability to do bigger and better projects. I do have one question tho is about your welding cart and that is who makes it and do you recommend it? Thanks for the vids keep them coming!!!
Thanks for watching! That’s great you took such an interest to welding! I really like this mp so far. The cart is the basic one from harbor freight and serves its purpose well! No complaints with it and I’ve had it for about 4 years so far
@@jtmoffroad the 140 fits well on that cart think i might do the same thing. I have also been looking at the Miller 215 but at $1600 it is a lot to spend esp when these newer inverter welders do so much more with less in terms of input power. The Duty cycle on this machine being 95A/18.75V/60% is untouchable from any 110 machine I have yet to look up. Lincoln also claims it can weld all the way up to 5/16 which is more than enough for 90% of any garage. I cant wait to get my hands on one! JFYI I did call Lincoln and the 140MP along with the LE31MP that Home Depot sells are to what Lincoln calls the "The exact same machine just to be sold at for different audiences" so who knows LOL
I’m looking at the same welder would you recommend it? There is the Lincoln 210 mp with rebate $1099. Ps looks good keep it up
So far I like it! I can only imagine the 210 is even better!
Foxtrot IOC welding and half off helmet with purchase of any welder but it’s a rebate for that price
Where i buy sir?
Hey man i just saw another video you done on this machine, dude run 7018 electrodes if the material isn't rusted... Its ALOT easier plus its just runs a smoother bead.
Thanks! I’ll be sure to pick up some 7018 and give them a shot!
I disagree with you. I’ve always ran 6013’s on DCEP and on the hotter side. I’ve got very smooth welds, and they’re really easy to start. 7018’s tend to slag over on the end, and that makes it a bit harder to start.
The 110 circuit in my garage where I would plug this in is on a 15 amp breaker. Will this 140MP welder throw the breaker on me, or will I need to upgrade to a higher amp breaker?
I have the same welder it throws the breaker unless you have a 30+ amp breaker
@@brysonnewton1919 Thank you Sir!
Do you have to keep those rods in the over?
7018 is a low hydrogen electrode with an iron flux coating. That’s why the welds look smoother.
Hydrogen is created from moisture. For hobby welding with 7018 Your metal won’t be thick enough to worry about hydrogen induced cracking.
Have you had any issues with the mig. Mine won't weld higher the c3 no matter on material
I have the same welder and I had the same problem but mine wouldn’t keep the arc going. I found out it pulled more amps than it says it does. For me I had to use a 30 amp outlet for the machine to even work. But after I put it in a different outlet it works great.
It's called the Stinger
Follow the puddle. Lol
this is very late . but good job. get a fan on that smoke to get from breathing it.
It's called "a stinger" ;)
Can you do TIG welding with that machine?
You can but you have to buy the TIG equipment separately
@@jtmoffroad do you know how much the Tig Attachment is? No reviews of this thing ever show the tig. Awesome stick welding though that’s super cool. Thaks
Use 6011 or 6010
turn little bit high and sligtly slow yor travel speed
I've seen worse, don't be afraid to turn up the heat.
Maybe slow your travel. Dont out run your puddle.
Thanks for the tip!
6013 is useless
