This is awesome video. But my issue is with eggs. I hear so many say that only the queen lays a fertile egg. When this is clearly not the case. The queen is the only female able to produce female and male bees. But not the only fertile egg.
When the female work lays an egg it can lay a viable egg that only produces a male bee.
If the egg layed by the female worker was not fertile, no bee would form from the egg.

Hello Anthony, you are correct. I can see your point, and here are my 2 cents. I believe there is confusion between two different words: fertile and fertilize. I wrote in the video "fertilized" eggs. I don't remember saying fertile. All honey bee eggs are fertile since they will generate a viable new bee, male or female no matter what. However, only worker bees need a fertile egg to be fertilized (male genetic material mixed with the female genetic material) to generate a female bee. Let me know your thoughts.

Yes you did correctly use fertile.
But again the same would be true in my opinion and 2 cents. In order to hatch from an egg to a lava, it would require a fertile egg, would it not?
For instance. My chickens lay eggs, and only the female are capable of laying a reproductive egg.
If said egg is not fertile it doesn't produce a rooster. It doesn't produce any life form at all.
Again this is nothing against you or your video. Very informative stuff.

I would suppose the thought process is as a single organism the eventual collapse of the whole colony would be the reason behind that thought process.
But male bee's lives matter! Lol.
But this is only my second year so what would I know. Lol
