201mph in a BMW M6! 172mph in a 997 Carrera 2! And off the 160mph clock in an AMG E55, but the one I'm proudest of, 155mph in a Series 3 V12 Jaguar E-type...just before it went bang.
Wehen I was 8, my dad owned a Merc CLK 430 AMG with a V8 with 280hp. When we were going to Dortmund he showed me what 300km/h (on the tacho) feels like! I will never forget this story and I tell it to all my friends! This car was lovely, thanks for the reminder, evo!
Love this new segment! This episode got me thinking if you ever have time, an episode about how you ask (or if they suggest) companies or private owners for the keys to their cars would be very interesting. I'm interested in some of the funny stories or the process to secure some of the rarest metal on the earth and I'm sure there would be a ton of bloopers or behind the scenes action that we don't see you guys could talk about. Really enjoying all the EVO content, keep up the good work!
I always enjoy these INSIDE evo videos, in addition to the usual reviews. Nice to pull back the curtain and see the human element behind a fantastic magazine of full of machines. Keep up the good work guys! Sorry I can't supply a 200mph story but here in the US we have a distinct lack of anything remotely resembling the autobahn.
The best autobahn to do really big speed is the A5 near Frankfurt. Four lanes, arrow straight and over 10 miles. The best time to do it is actually when there is a big football game, when germany is playing, because then everybody is watching the game and the autobahns are pretty empty. I did that in 2010 with a 911 Carrera 4 and managed almost 300kph. Funny: My old camera shot off at about 250 aswell, so I don't have the complete footage of my run:) Also just did over 285 in a C63 Edition 507:)
Best time to start your high speed run is on a Sunday in the early hours around 5am. In Germany Trucks are not allowed to drive on Sundays and everyone else is still sleeping. Also the engine can breath the healthy cool and fresh morning air. In Bavaria at best on the A94, A92, A9.
174 felt insane to me. It had more in it but I didn't. For a car to feel stable at 200mph I consider that a true achievement. This car seem is the perfect luxury car for the lovers of speed.
Done 280 kmh in my BMW M5 e60 on the autobahn in daylight towards Würzburg - no traffic. The limiter kick in in 6th gear, so it could definitely go more without the limiter. You did said you did the tire pressure before going out. What is the ideal tire pressure for a high speed run?
The fastest i drove myself was an indicated 280 km/h (175 mph) in a VW Phaeton W12 (450 hp) and an indicated 300 km/h (187 mph) as a passanger in a turbocharged Golf R32 mk IV (about 460 hp).
The best I've ever managed was 256km/h in a BMW E92 330i going from Munich towards Adenau (guess where we were headed), but then again,we did have another gear to go as we hit traffic, so I can only wonder about the Vmax of the vehicle back then...
I've done 324km/h (201mp/h) in a tuned 911 Turbo during daytime on autobahn, got lucky with the traffic. It was damn scary but once of the best adrenaline rushes I've experienced. Now days I dont feel such an urge to drive big speeds on autobahn anymore :)
Not been to an Autobahn sadly or Germany for that matter, but did manage to go 203mph in a turbo'd Audi R8 at Bruntingthorpe (as a passenger) a couple of months ago - scary and fun at the same time.
Never done anywhere close to 200 but I did do around 230kph in a rental 1.8 Mercedes C class Estate crammed with 4 people and luggage on the Autobahn last year and it sure felt pretty quick. I would love to do 200 one day though
I have done 189mph in a 850bhp evo time attack car at 3am on way to Adenauer it got there pretty quick (thankfully as around the next sweeping bend the traffic was building up) and then hit max speed on the drenth gearbox. Could hit over 200 if the gearing was changed.
I once did ~208 mph (the speedo showed 335 kph) in a BMW M6 - the one with the glorious V10. A5 between Frankfurt and Darmstadt, four lanes, about midnight on Sunday, really no traffic at all, arrow straight and of course derestricted. It felt pretty scary once it got over 186 mph to be honest, though I'm not sure how accurate the speedo was. And meanwhile I was doing this my Dad drove behind me in his E92 M3, sitting on the limiter which kicked in at 272 kph (169 mph) haha
Do bikes count in this comment deal? The fastest I've gone on a wheeled vehicle is 186. Yamaha R6, mostly stock. Take note I am a very small man, only about 142lbs. 100mph, no problem, very comfortable. 140?... Not comfortable. The wind pressure is insane. And quite frankly scary. 186 I backed out, it may have had a bit more, but im not to rider to do push it to its absolute max. I cannot described the noise of the wind.
Did 320km/h (indicated) in a BMW M6, which is just shy of 200mph I think. But of course the speedo will always indicate a little more than what your actually doing
Trying to max my Clio rs 200 on the autobahn ( about 140 mph) when a Lamborghini Gallardo cruises past me with such ease I couldn't even heard its exhaust, felt so slow
noooo the best part is the a 37 from Bremen to Hanover. Its empty, strait and nice tarmac. i did there a fue times above 300kmh...(ABT RS6) whats quite nice is the a70 from Bamberg to Schweinfurt. you have to slow down to 80kmh for one tunnel but thats it..
Agree with the driver's comments, and people should take note. Doing high speed with cars one lane over is pretty irresponsible, fun as it is. Slightest error and you are upside down in the air towards some nice thick autobahn tree.
I guess you can't imagine the impact speed limit would have on German economy and image. Also, careless drivers in Germany are seldom unlike other countries like NL, BE, FR and the king of all carelessness UK. I wouldn't worry too much
I have to agree with that. Such speeds above the recommended tick should be reserved for the racing track where precautions are in place to handle any unexpected issues, Credit to Evo for at least making this test run at night...but then what value do we get from the video/story? Please stick to the great reviews you provide.
Hey Henry, I know you're one of the more soft-spoken presenters/writers on evo, but I was really really struggling to understand what you were trying to say in this video...
please don't post a comment below how you did 200mph on the autobahn and please don't come here just to speed up and down the roads. 130km/h is the recommended speed on the autobahn. everyone who is faster will be made responsible for an excedent no matter who really caused it and we already have the politicians and health and safety up our throats because every other year a young mother with her children dies after losing control because she got scared or whatever, by car coming in really fast
Don't like this new EVO format of 2 persons speaking, nice try gents but it didn't work. Just stick with what you do best, great car reviews, great camera footage, constructive observations. Cheers ..
200mph on speedo is not = 200 real mph, more like 190+ My fastest speed is 312km/h (195mph) on speedo in a BMW M6 and it was still accelerating quicker than the GT speed at the same speed but I ran out of road.
that's the reason I said con't come to germany to speed up and down our normal roads because some people confuse them with racetracks. you see those people everywhere. not only the autobahn but also near the nuerburgring and B roads. maybe you should read comments fist before you reply to them.
In a car ive only been up to 140mph in my buddies stage 3 RS4 and my own mazdaspeed3. But on my R1 and Zx10r i see 175-190 on a daily basis lol its so easy
0,2 bis 0,3bar weniger als der Hersteller angibt. Bei hohen Geschwindigkeiten steigt die Temperatur und damit der Luftdruck. Wenn man Nordschleife fährt sogar bis zu 0,5 Bar weniger.
Alright mate, relax. If you read your post after you posted it you would have noticed that the way it's worded implies that speeds above 130 kph are dangerous in general because some people don't pay attention (the poor young mother with her child) not because of non Germans. I suggest you take a chill pill, how's that sound?
201mph in a BMW M6! 172mph in a 997 Carrera 2! And off the 160mph clock in an AMG E55, but the one I'm proudest of, 155mph in a Series 3 V12 Jaguar E-type...just before it went bang.
2 men simply talking cars. True petrol heads. A beautiful sight. Great video.

As a law abiding citizen I have never been past 77+1MPH ;)
Love this new segment!

Really enjoying all the EVO content, keep up the good work!
330 Km/H in a highway in Santiago Chile...with a Bmw M6. A lot of factors had to be in place for doing that... Monday 3am, very long straight.
I always enjoy these INSIDE evo videos, in addition to the usual reviews. Nice to pull back the curtain and see the human element behind a fantastic magazine of full of machines. Keep up the good work guys!

I did 85mph in my Peugeot 106d on the M25 once. Truly terrifying.

I've done 200 a couple of times, but it was in km/h. Still, good fun

I Like Henry alot, responsible, fast, unassuming, polite, as British as it gets!
That yellow color looks really nice. Gives it some character.
If you wanna know how 200 mph looks on the clock......watch EVO ,or start dreaming . Very "gentleman" like review.....I enjoyed it.
did Henry manage to catch any poles recently? if yes, what were they doing at the time?
The fastest i drove myself was an indicated 280 km/h (175 mph) in a VW Phaeton W12 (450 hp) and an indicated 300 km/h (187 mph) as a passanger in a turbocharged Golf R32 mk IV (about 460 hp).

Not been to an Autobahn sadly or Germany for that matter, but did manage to go 203mph in a turbo'd Audi R8 at Bruntingthorpe (as a passenger) a couple of months ago - scary and fun at the same time.
I once did 188.1mph in a tuned Sierra Cosworth at Bruntingthorpe.
Never done anywhere close to 200 but I did do around 230kph in a rental 1.8 Mercedes C class Estate crammed with 4 people and luggage on the Autobahn last year and it sure felt pretty quick. I would love to do 200 one day though
Faster and faster. Until the thrill of speed overcomes the fear of death.
Salzburg is in Austria, EVO!!!
I have done 189mph in a 850bhp evo time attack car at 3am on way to Adenauer it got there pretty quick (thankfully as around the next sweeping bend the traffic was building up) and then hit max speed on the drenth gearbox. Could hit over 200 if the gearing was changed.
i did 200 on the autoban in a r8 v10. Some hungarian with a vectra jumped on my lane and we ceashed at 145. Now i drive an rs4
Thanks for the tip!
The guy did mention that he told Bentley guys to take car out at night as the traffic low to test their claim of 205mph top speed.
"Who was wielding a small cannon.... Camera." Hahahaha
Search Rs6 0-333 Bulgaria and explain us for another 10 mins about the autobahn lanes and corners with 200mph.
Nice video, nice run.

do people dislike this because it's just talking?
go watch Top Gear then
What continentals got a turbo?

My 200 MPH story: This one time in NFS…
Cant wait to get one of these :D
That must feel wild in a Viper!
Trying to max my Clio rs 200 on the autobahn ( about 140 mph) when a Lamborghini Gallardo cruises past me with such ease I couldn't even heard its exhaust, felt so slow
The best GT car in the world.
205mph aint bad for a freakin' tank.
Strange how slow the cars Henry is passing looks like ..
WHat a massive shame we didn't actually her the cars noise instead of the two guys waffling.
I want a yellow Bentley gt speed! loved that coller!
noooo the best part is the a 37 from Bremen to Hanover. Its empty, strait and nice tarmac. i did there a fue times above 300kmh...(ABT RS6)
whats quite nice is the a70 from Bamberg to Schweinfurt. you have to slow down to 80kmh for one tunnel but thats it..
The A8 leading into Munich (Munchen) is similar. Straight and wide.
Agree with the driver's comments, and people should take note. Doing high speed with cars one lane over is pretty irresponsible, fun as it is. Slightest error and you are upside down in the air towards some nice thick autobahn tree.
Did 147 in a jaguar xf and it got there with ease but its limited top speed
How lol-worthy is it that the onboard computer asks you what speed you're going to be doing before it recommends a tire pressure?
I guess you can't imagine the impact speed limit would have on German economy and image. Also, careless drivers in Germany are seldom unlike other countries like NL, BE, FR and the king of all carelessness UK. I wouldn't worry too much
Fastest I've ever been is 170mph in a Ferrari 360 Modena.
They're de-restricted John!

I did over 200mph once but I'm pretty sure I was in a plane...
200mph in a continental supersport coincidentally
199 around a turn? good lord
Hey Henry, I know you're one of the more soft-spoken presenters/writers on evo, but I was really really struggling to understand what you were trying to say in this video...
My god who was responsible for keying out the green screen?
DA HELL DID I JUST WATCH!?...two guys chatting on sofas apparently
I did 200mph in a train once.
Can i have that 11 minutes back please :-(
Is the ginger on the left reading his questions and stats from What Car?
please don't post a comment below how you did 200mph on the autobahn and please don't come here just to speed up and down the roads. 130km/h is the recommended speed on the autobahn. everyone who is faster will be made responsible for an excedent no matter who really caused it and we already have the politicians and health and safety up our throats because every other year a young mother with her children dies after losing control because she got scared or whatever, by car coming in really fast
Wow. I am super jelly. Wish I lived in Germany D:
Nick is starting to look like james hewitt!
Have you got a brother called Ian catchpole and lee catchpole ?
Wow, how can be legal do 200 mph in public roads !??! We love you germany
Hmm.. That green screen isn't working well.
Don't like this new EVO format of 2 persons speaking, nice try gents but it didn't work.
Just stick with what you do best, great car reviews, great camera footage, constructive observations. Cheers ..
Mahle air pressure gauges at a service station? Europe is awesome.
200mph on speedo is not = 200 real mph, more like 190+

May I have the 2 seconds back for reading your comment :(
The one of the left is looking more and more like that cad James Hewitt lol
You can do 300kph in between each construction zone LOL.
they have twin turbos....and so did the old one.
In a car ive only been up to 140mph in my buddies stage 3 RS4 and my own mazdaspeed3. But on my R1 and Zx10r i see 175-190 on a daily basis lol its so easy
Why?
I can max out from Hanover to Berlin in my
180 kph in my Citroen Xsara '99 diesel with 66kw :D :D :D
Lovely car
i dont understand... isn't the supersport the fastest Bentley???
317 kph ... in a train
WOW!
*Adenau - bloody auto correct!
Tell your mothers to learn how to use mirrors and stay out of lane 3 and everything will be fine.
Gone is 220 kmph in my dads 2008 530i :/
Betcha it's a good rally car.
I've only been 120 in my mustang
turning bend at 199 mph. wow
Henry has a wasps nest on his head

Henry needs to SPEAK UP a tad.
Please speak more clearly. Otherwise great insight.
Lol the fastest I've ever went was like 105 in a 2010 Honda Oddesey xD
i've done 200 in a Boeing
It was
