Thanks to Don and Dan for commissioning this one; I was hoping he'd do a reaction to this one. I like the yrics, of course, but I love the ambling swing and roll of the music, with a lazy-sounding guitar and the simple upright bass fiddle moseying along.
morning Don after 5 stepdads only one ever taught me anything and that was how to take a beating. Didn't take me long to realize the only person I could rely on was the face in the mirror. I'm not whining about it it has made me the man I am. When Tracy came to me when she was 18 and said I want to have a baby I said we can do that but we have to be married first and if we get married it is for life. thanks Don.... be safe ... HAKAD
Well done 👍 Not all stepdads are created equal. It takes courage, strength and vision to mold your future from experiences you want to have, rather than the ones you have had.
@@debbratrueax4430 thank you ma'am I got lucky 36 yrs ago God sent me a angel to hold my hand through hell. See Don's list many songs done for her ... the sheep spend their life in fear of the wolf only to be ate by the shepherd= politics .. more words from the Church of HAKAD... HAKAD
Very interesting --- I'd heard the Headhunters version of this song but I didn't really appreciate the lyrics until now. This has some really fascinating insights, and it brings back memories of things I said as a kid too (it's actually amazing how imaginative children are!). Thanks Dan for another terrific request, and Don for another great reaction!
This song does reflect what does happen in real life, which is unfortunate, because it still happens to this day. Thanks for sharing this reaction video. Cheers! ✌️
Haven't heard this in a long time. I don't remember any other song by him. The whole theme reminds me of Tammy Wynette's "Kids Says The Darndest Things."
Yes don't remember" Kids say the Darndest things" but she also had" I don't want play house "which is about what is overheard by a mother and what her daughter was saying .
Thanks Don and Dan for this song . One of my favorites as a kid . Was to young to realize the depth of this song not sure why I liked it maybe the melody and it was about kids .
Interesting reaction. I've always took it as a reminder that kids learn from our words and action. Not just parents but all the adults around them. We should be careful that our actions match our teaching. Because kids learn from actions more than we might realize.
Well said, Don. 👍💓 That was a difficult reaction choice. Know your children. Talk to them and make no assumptions. You can be their biggest influence, or you can let the world raise them. Children have increasingly spent a lot of time away from the family unit and parents tend to be worn out from the daily stresses of the adult world, or just not interested in their children as people. In a few cases that helps. In others the transformation can be heartbreaking. Don't be cruel, yet don't indulge their every whim or desire. Being honest, loving, and kind; or being deceptive, hateful, and cruel, doesn't automatically beget the same in children. Listen to their stories. Tell them yours. Play with them. Einstein and Plato have some profound wisdom on the subject of play. Thanks, Dan 👍💓 A thought provoking song that I haven't heard since I was a child, but it probably helped shape my attitudes about raising children.
raised 3 kids 10 yrs ago I had to take my granduaghter from my kid when she was 2 yrs old she had no choice It was me or the gov still raising her in ten yrs I think she has thought me as much as I have her ... HAKAD
@@dansigurdson Thank you. I know you probably just did what you needed to do and didn't think twice. A lot of people can't or won't step up. It makes a big difference to a child knowing they have family they can count on.
@@debbratrueax4430 I might not change the world but I might raise her too. All my grandkids call me oldman not grampa and oldman has never let her down. When I first got her she was sitting in the yard at the farm crying for her mommy, daddy and dog. With a tear rolling down my cheek I said to myself she will always have a safe stable happy home worked out so far ... be safe ... HAKAD
I've always thought that this song was more a caution to parents to be careful of what they say near their children. Children have big ears and do have a habit of repeating what they have heard.
Funny how you explain that you don’t do pop music but in-fact this song became a crossover hit on the top 40 I think like #20 or something around there Thanks Don this was great I’ve always loved that song
Man this takes me back I remember this from when I was in 2nd grade, been awhile, hey Don, I would like to request a song by Mel Tillis, called" BRAND NEW MISTER ME" really good country song by Mel, enjoy
you are reading to much into this, things have changed since this came out, society didn't have the influence on kids the age this song was about that it does today!
I remember when this was new very good song!
I remember when this song came out - I was in my teens and I can say that I really understood this song instantly.
One of the most chilling songs I have ever heard. When you listen to the lyrics...

This song says a lot in a short time. Very deep.

listen to the children repeat what you say. many children want to mimic their parents.
Great one once again from days gone bye love it what words put together 2 make a story so true 👌
