前作と同様にMVSシステム用として登場した「ソニックウイングス3」。基本システムと操作系は前作と変わらないが、新たにルート分岐システムが採用されている。これはプレイヤーがコースをセレクトするのではなく、プレイヤーの行動により自動的にコースが決定される。また、機体がジェット機からレシプロ機に、数が前作の8機から10機に増え、それぞれの機体の性格もよりはっきりしたものとなっている。また、シリーズ恒例となっているが、今作でも各機体、コースによりエンディングが異なる。全2周エンド。テンポ良く進んでいくステージ展開は今作でも健在。
ストーリー:
前回の戦いから3カ月後のある夜… アメリカ西部の都市の上空に不思議な光が現われた後、数機の大型戦闘機が突如現われ、都市を攻撃。同じような事件は世界各地で起こり、どの国もその軍隊に攻撃を受けたのだ。国際秘密救助の基地もその軍隊の攻撃の為、大打撃を受けていた。飛び立つ間もなく炎上する戦闘機。わずかに残った使用可能な最新鋭機も敵の策略のため電子機器が使えなくなってしまった。ここで敵が使用していたのは古いレシプロ機。しかも実戦では使用されなかった試作機も含まれていた。報告を受けた隊長のリヴァー卿は、決断を下す。「使用可能な全て武器を用いて反撃せよ。地下格納庫に保管されている古い兵器の使用も許可する」

The third game in this excellent series adheres to the solid shoot-em-up template set down by its predecessors. The player takes on the role of a Jet Fighter aircraft pilot whose mission is to combat world terrorism. The object of the game is to fly from country to country and destroy all opposition around the world, before flying into outer space to combat the menace responsible for the terrorism. Each pilot has his own storyline that ties in with the game.
One enemy shot destroys the player's plane and releases a special power-up that the plane may have been carrying. If the player's final ship is destroyed, all power-ups and extra bombs are released and can be collected if the player chooses the 'continue' option, or if a second player is still active. However, on the final mission in Outer Space, the player is forced to start again at the beginning of the space mission, unless 2 players are active.

Sonic Wings 3 is ABSOLUTELY AWESOME with STUNNINGLY AMAZING graphics and gameplay
If you pay attention closely, the art of this game is amazing, the environment and stuff.
The enemies also represent WWII.
Like the Blohm & Voss BV 141, Blohm & Voss P 188, Kugelbitz, Vought XF5U, J7W Shinden, Type VII U boats, and many more.
Also I believe I saw Hetzer and Maus somewhere.
The Blohm & Voss P 188 was the one with the W-shaped wings, yes?
This installment of the Aero Fighters/Sonic Wings series had a different vibe. The backgrounds were absolutely amazing and the music was awesome. I think they were heavily influenced by the 19-- series at this point in time and Battle Garegga. My only gripe is that some of the stages were extremely short and had very hard bosses.

Why did the final boss skip two phases? The whole submarine just imploded before the real boss can even appear lol
Most Sonic Wings games have this feature. If you're fast/aggressive enough, you can defeat the bosses without the need to overcome all their forms.
