Going on the math that a movie has to make double its budget to be considered profitable, 2011’s Conan lost $116 million dollars and 2019’s Hellboy lost $44.9 million dollars. I am beginning to enjoy watching these companies flush their finite resources down the toilet. Hopefully it will put them out of business sooner rather than later. Anyone remember Cannon Films?

That is what they are doing all the time. They could have created a new IP, but they want to use an audience for "star wars", and thus an acolyte needed to get that sticker. But because of that sticker they did not get a new audience (you know those people that react on twitter but don't go to cinemas) AND they lost the audience they were banking on (by destroying any bit of lore that was still standing after several years of that IP under animal / rat control).

I never expected there would be a decent Red Sonja movie. It wouldn't bother me to the level of the God awful latter treatment of Conan, because Red Sonja is not an actual REH character, but still she was a decent comic character set in the Hyborian age. But most studios have no artistic vision and the people they hire generally only understand writing at the level of fan fiction and identity politics. I'd love someone with talent to make a Red Sonya movie, or better yet adapt REH's character Dark Agnes, set in medieval France. That would be great but it will never happen.

I am still going to watch Hellboy The Crooked Man. Jeez, it sounds like the movie is in big shit. It is crazy to hear that they've finished filming the movie a year and a half ago and they haven't released, it is just wild. i have a background in martail arts and my bigest gripe is the so called female fighters look like they would lose to a paper bag in real life. they are not credable at all so they move everything around to acomadate that. eg at the start of rings of power they were fighting a dragon that was wiping out the best of them a small army of buffed dudes. then the female hero turns up all on her own and the dragon goes down just like that. haveing a face like you are sucking a lemon is no substitute for real grit.
I am a Hellboy purist and while initially liking the first Hellboy, Del Toro went far off the rails with the second one and did not make a Mignola Hellboy but a masturbatory Del Toro version - he basically made it great visually but terrible story that went way far afield. As much as people slag the recent Hellboy, it was much more like the real Hellboy comics than the first two. It was not perfect, but in retrospect it was an actual Hellboy film unlike Del Toro’s second. I like Marshall as director and it is a shame his experience was so bad as I like the film. The Crooked Man (and its follow-up The Return of Effie Kolb) is one of my favorite stories and would make a awesome film.
I would like to remind folks of Xena: Warrior Princess. Gabrielle went from being a conservatively dressed farm girl, to a nearly bikini clad warrior. Everyone really liked her transformation. She became more competent, confident, and effective while becoming sexier. Red Sonja is a hot, sexy, competent, intelligent warrior. I think fondly of Brigitte Nielsen. Be faithful to characters and lore, or FAIL.
Sure, but Xena simply gets a pass by that progressive crowd because the showrunner thought it was a good idea to queerbait that part of the fanbase in later seasons. It was one of the complaints leveled at it near the end of its run.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but Red Sonja is DOA. Like Furiosa , Madam Web, and the Marvles. Had enough of Sheroes. Not spending money on this.

I never expected there would be a decent Red Sonja movie. It wouldn't bother me to the level of the God awful latter treatment of Conan, because Red Sonja is not an actual REH character, but still she was a decent comic character set in the Hyborian age. But most studios have no artistic vision and the people they hire generally only understand writing at the level of fan fiction and identity politics.
I'd love someone with talent to make a Red Sonya movie, or better yet adapt REH's character Dark Agnes, set in medieval France. That would be great but it will never happen.
Couldn't they use ai to reskin the Lady Death animated movie into a Red Sonja movie instead, and save the hazzle?
Lady Death would have been a fun one for sure even if they didn't go full comic/anime accurate it's still a good vs evil, easy to follow type of story.

I am still going to watch Hellboy The Crooked Man. Jeez, it sounds like the movie is in big shit. It is crazy to hear that they've finished filming the movie a year and a half ago and they haven't released, it is just wild. I want Arnold to make Conan the Barbarian 3 R rated like the first Conan movie (the second Conan movie was something with pg13, I don't remember). I blame the producer who has the rights to Conan who won't give Arnold his third Conan movie.
I have been waiting for that movie forever. Love Red Sonja but the delay doesn't help with high expectations.

At this point nothing surprises me anymore, it's like Hollywood has TNT strapped to all my favorite things and is playing iny meany miny moe with two different Detenators. My only consolation is they will not get my money.
More remakes. Name a remake as good as the original? BSG maybe? People need to let these remakes/reboots die. Hollywood cant even stand on their own anymore. It shouldn't be hard to make a movie like Red Sonja, But Hollywood in their own "Progressive Bubble" can't help but make it difficult on themselves.

I know the character of Red Sonja, and she's never really held any interest for me. From what you have to say, I have zero interest in this movie, even if it was pretty good. That being said, if it starred Sydney Sweeney, I'd be lining up to see it! She's hot and she's not a whacked out woke weirdo! Put those two things together, plus having her in a chainmail bikini and I'm sold!!!
i have a background in martail arts and my bigest gripe is the so called female fighters look like they would lose to a paper bag in real life.
they are not credable at all so they move everything around to acomadate that.
eg at the start of rings of power they were fighting a dragon that was wiping out the best of them a small army of buffed dudes.
then the female hero turns up all on her own and the dragon goes down just like that.
haveing a face like you are sucking a lemon is no substitute for real grit.

I am a Hellboy purist and while initially liking the first Hellboy, Del Toro went far off the rails with the second one and did not make a Mignola Hellboy but a masturbatory Del Toro version - he basically made it great visually but terrible story that went way far afield.
As much as people slag the recent Hellboy, it was much more like the real Hellboy comics than the first two. It was not perfect, but in retrospect it was an actual Hellboy film unlike Del Toro’s second. I like Marshall as director and it is a shame his experience was so bad as I like the film. The Crooked Man (and its follow-up The Return of Effie Kolb) is one of my favorite stories and would make a awesome film.

I would like to remind folks of Xena: Warrior Princess. Gabrielle went from being a conservatively dressed farm girl, to a nearly bikini clad warrior. Everyone really liked her transformation. She became more competent, confident, and effective while becoming sexier. Red Sonja is a hot, sexy, competent, intelligent warrior. I think fondly of Brigitte Nielsen. Be faithful to characters and lore, or FAIL.

Sure, but Xena simply gets a pass by that progressive crowd because the showrunner thought it was a good idea to queerbait that part of the fanbase in later seasons. It was one of the complaints leveled at it near the end of its run.
Not to mention she got pretty jacked in later seasons.
I honestly have little issue with Hellboy being a supernatural slasher with Hellboy stuck in it. It may actually work.

Honestly, what the shutdown taught me is I don't miss going to the theaters so I definitely will not see that I know is crap. Most of it is crap so I can easily pass or just wait.
