I kinda for saw that problem with the rat grate letting you out during combat. My modified version of it I used as a teleport to the secret elevator room that goes to my custom secret floor in ExpandTheGungeon mod won't open till combat ends. (can be unlocked, but will not swing open till combat ends) so that situation couldn't have happened with my use of it. Though I have sense replaced it with a custom elevator object/system. That too won't open and become usable until combat ends. :P EDIT: and yeah there is a mod that lets you fight the punchout phase of the rat anytime. It's a mod I made. PunchoutAnywhereMod I believe it's called. You install mod and run a command in the console to have the game generate a set of rooms and it teleports you to a room that auto activates the punchout fight. The mod places the rat chests and reward pedestals (and even have my own method for obtaining the baby dragun). It's also proven useful to other modders making custom characters as it's a good mod to have for doing quick tests of custom character sprites used for the rat Punchout. :D
I feel like if there was a way to get to the Abbey without going through the sewers, the floor would have to be heavily remade, since right now the floor is about as difficult as the real thrid floor.
I did the same thing with the locking myself out of the rat room. Fortunately, I had the vorpal gun with me so I used the crit shots to kill the enemies inside.
I'm a little late, but if you're interested, passive reloading is definitely a feature rather than an oversight. I remember that a part of the Ammonomicon mentions it. Can't remember where it says it but take my word for it it's in there.

I am now 200 hours into this game I have only ever beaten the rat in rainbow mode, usually with blank bullets or I've already used clone and have an ultra busted build. Every time I've actually *made* it to the Rat in a normal run I get deleted by the mech's missiles and all the spinning stuff, even after watching tutorials. The rat items are really the only thing blocking me from having The Finished Gun at this point.
about you thinking about stealing the rat key, didnt you say earlier on in the series you cant steal things that are in a glass container? eg prime primer and i thought the rat key was in that glass casing so that you couldnt steal it
He says that the gold amulet for what it is was worth more for the run than a A or S rank gun could've been at the time. On some runs, doing that would've been a no brainer. But he already had decent weapons and he had companions that used blanks plus he himself uses blanks well

I've had blooper with heavy bullets fat bullets scatter shot and lazer sight. It was amazing how far I launched everyone
I spent 6 hours trying to get the robot to the forge but i failed every time at the hollow. i also had to give up 2 relodestones and a stuffed star
Try to always buy the shilds and don't open brow chests, if you just want to beat the past restart rainbow mode til you get ridle of lead

You can't steal it with a grappling hook, everything else works
