    Good suggestions. I work in the marine industry where overhead rigging is often available. A piece of aluminum flat bar can be bent into a "u" and suspended with rope from anything overhead to make really smooth movement.

    My methode to get stable silky shots is to record in 60fps minimum or above. Slow down the clip by 55% if recording 60fps, nest the clip, than throw a warp stabilizer on the clip and boom! Silky smooth footage!

    No need for SLIDERS either!!!
    I completely agree with this video. I've been doing this technique for 10 years with our wedding footage. No gimbals, no sliders, no problem. And people always ask me after seeing our weddings "what steadicam/gimbal do you use" or "which slider" and I say "99% of our footage has neither". It's all about body control and knowing the ins and outs of Warp Stabilizer and how/when you can use it without presenting any artificial wobble. Sometimes "Subspace Warp" is the method you should choose in settings (wide lens) and sometimes you should switch to "Position, Scale, Rotation" (telephoto lens). And also know your limitations with each lens...what you can and can't do without it getting too shaky to be impossible to stabilize effectively without any artificial wobble of the foreground and background, or extreme scaling in Premiere. Finally, I'd add that the use of a power zoom lens (really only Sony has lenses available that zoom slow enough to achieve this on a S35 or FF body) is a forgotten art that, when used carefully, can replicate a jib movement. Start low, and slowly stand up in one steady consistent movement pushing the camera to the sky covering essentially 7 feet of space while zooming slowly out. Put it in slow mo if desired and use the P, S, R method described above in your stabilizer settings and you have a jib shot without a jib. Takes some practice, but the results are awesome. Sure I look like I'm doing tai chi while I'm filming all day, but hey, it works. And yeah, it's buttery smooth.

  • @Pollerizer
    @Pollerizer 4 года назад

    These things you mentioned -- especially the first four -- are simple and already there for most people who make videos. Still requires practice, and multiple takes, to get decent results, but it's worth mastering because it's easy to deploy and, as you said, you don't have to bring and rely on additional gear.

    A classic would be using a wheelchair (mount the camera on it or just sit down and get someone to push you around in it). Those give you a super smooth movement. I´ve also used a camera head from a tripod mounted on a bicycle handle bar via a Manfrotto Superclamp. That worked really nicely too.

    Something I've found surprisingly good for smooth shots is the DJI Mavic, you can literally carry it and film handheld shots with it and it's incredibly smooth because it has a gimbal built in, or you can just fly it low to the ground for even smoother footage. I would actually prioritize buying a Mavic drone over a gimbal because you can see in this video you there are many ways to stabilize footage on DSLR's, and the drone gives you a whole new perspective for shots.

    Question! I am upgrading my camera setup next week. The camera will solely be used for my vlogging as I use a GoPro for my travel and trip edits I do. I have been looking at the Sony A series, as well as the G7X but cannot decide which would better suit my needs. I truly love the look of the Sony cameras and after testing an A5100 I was blown away by the right out of the box look for videos. I really like the look with the blurred background and the focus on the subject... mainly me while im talking directly to camera. But i also want the best bang for my buck and don't want to be dissapointed and need an upgrade in a few months. I prefer to have a flip out screen to view as I film my vlog as well. I really don't care if it is 1080 or 4K as i edit in 1080 anyway. My budget will be $1000 canadian. And it would be nice to order a creator kit from Amazon. But i would be okay with a kit lens as well. Any input or advice would be greatly appreciated!!

    Get 3 pairs of roller blades, slap 2 of 'em on the boosted board wheels and the last one on your feet. Jump on the modified boosted board, turn on the stabilization and slow-mo and hold your breath.
    Easy smooth shots.

  • @MonkeyMagick
    @MonkeyMagick 7 лет назад

    Instead of the boosted board you could just get a second hand skateboard and put some soft (78a) wheels on it. On smooth surfaces it will be indistinguishable for shorter shots. It will also be quieter too as there is no motor noise.
