The, uh, "symbols" at 14:30 that Lindsey drew do in fact look like two kanji. 井 for "well" (as in, the thing you draw water from) and 千 for "thousand". They probably have similar meanings in Chinese, but that's at least what they mean in Japanese.
Funnily enough, they mean the exact same thing in Chinese too, though I personally thought it looked more like 开without the top character, which means "open".
廾千 The first word is apparently some obscure (archaic, maybe?) word for "to clasp one's hands together." Moreover, it's also used as a variant of the word 廿, which is an obscure way of saying 20. So it's actually slightly cohesive, in whole meaning "twenty thousand"! ...Except that in Chinese (and presumably Japanese, too), instead of grouping numbers by three decimal places (one-ten-hundred, one thousand-ten thousand-hundred thousand, etc.), numbers are grouped by four decimal places (one-ten-hundred-thousand, one 万-ten-万-hundred 万-thousand 万, etc.), so 廿千 would not actually be how you would say 20,000 (that'd be 两万).

+Spiffleh If you want to be technical there's words like sama or sakura (the one that isn't 櫻) that exist only in Kanji. Every Chinese character can technically be used in Japanese as Kanji (ignoring differences in Simplified and Traditional), albeit most of them will almost never be used.
