Having seen many of your videos I now want to have go and even consider it as a business, bearing in mind I’m nearly 68 years, but love a challenge.. I’m in the UK and looking at starting a business from my mushroom growing. Do you need food and hygiene certificates to produce and sell the mushrooms or extracts?
Good questions; If you are growing mushrooms in the UK and not processing you are a primary food producer and this does not require a license. For the extracts and to sell food supplements you must register as a Food Business Operator with your local authority. When setting up a small scale farm in the UK, what government bodies do I need to be in touch with to guarantee compliance with the law regarding food safety etc.? I'm trying to contact the relevant people in my local council for more information, but they seem unsure themselves. It would be great to see more information from your case studies about how they have researched and managed this process of scaling their operations into proper law and regulation compliant businesses. If any other Uk based farmers on here have any knowledge or experience of Marketing standards for fresh produce, Food safety and hygiene, and any business licensing and permits I'd appreciate any direction. The government advice I've found so far has been a little confusing.
