The text of Ndikhokhele Bawo comes from Psalm 23, “The Lord is my Shepherd,” and is in the Xhosa language. This Bantu language falls into the category of Nguni languages, the same umbrella that contains Zulu; Xhosa is one of the most widely spoken languages in South Africa. Michael Barrett, Director of Choral Music Studies at the University of Pretoria in South Africa, sets this sacred text in a large-scale ‘ternary' form, ABA. A solo soprano voice brings in the choir with a serene sense of hope and wonder. The women join in with the same soloistic style and the men accompany them in widely voiced homophony. The piece continues to grow in dynamics with a celebratory declaration.

I must admit that I clicked on this with some apprehension. Bawo is one of my favorites, and I wasn't sure what to expect with this version, but I loved it. So now I breathe in gratitude!
Language is not a barrier for sure these white guys are singing fluently esi zulu and this is nice guys oooow aaaal
This is Nguni, the song is originally isiXhosa but they got it mixed up (Xhosa & Zulu!)

Proof once again that music has no accent
It has an accent You can't hear it But me as an African I can but they sing it is like me as African speaking English I can't be that tonal same like English but I can nail it like you
I am an African, and songs are generally not accented. There might be minor mispronounciations, but I detected no accent in this song, and I speak the language.
I am obsessed with this song and have watched MANY versions of it performed on here and have to say that this is one of my absolute favorite. BEAUTIFUL!
