Hi Gary, thanks for the video! I‘ve been using iPhone mirroring since it came out and learned a few more tricks from your video! I understand there are security/privacy reasons for not letting us use the mic on the iPhone will using iPhone Mirroring but I wish they would let us and maybe it might be possible in the future. I have low vision and many people I work with do too and this is really helpful as it also makes some things easier to see when put on the Mac screen. Thanks again for another great video! Reminds me of the 30 pin connector and rearranging the icons on my iPhone using my Mac screen. I used this feature a lot, and I may wind up using it again. It’s quite frustrating sometimes to try to work within the screen on the iPhone for me.
This is the question I came to ask. I really liked that feature in iTunes and I’m happy to be able to arrange iPhone apps on my Mac again. *EDIT* Forgot a word.
You don't need iPhone mirroring to watch Netflix on your Mac. Why would you do that? It would be on a screen inside a screen and pretty small. Just go to the Netflix site.
Are you able to use landscape mode? What happens if you watch a landscape video or launch a landscape mode game? Will it orient the mirrored screen on the MacBook?
thanks gary...thumbs up as usual...now if we can get apple to rearrange our apps on the iPhone to reflect a landscape mode...it would be awesome...is there a way?
It will switch into Landscape mode when an app is landscape-only. But I don't know of a way to force it to landscape when the app is OK with either mode.
@@macmost thanks...i could have been more clear...on the home screen...rotate the iPhone but the apps still remain in portrait mode...i ride my motorcycle with my iPhone in landscape for using maps, etc. thanks g.
Gary, I have been using this Mirroring feature and thanks for those short cuts. However wonder if you would be able to help find a solution to this issue. While using a bilingual keyboard on the iPhone unable to switch the language on the iPhone keyboard. Do you have a suggestion, tip or trick? Thanks.
Perhaps that's just something they haven't implemented yet? After all, they do show language requirements in the feature availability page, so maybe that is why.
Did you figure out a way? That's the reason I found this video but it didn't really say beyond maybe the Magic Mouse is a little more capable than a scrollwheel mouse (unfortunately I am using a Logitech scrollwheel mouse). I do have a Magic Mouse, maybe I'll give it a try and report back.
Thanks Gary great video as always. Just to let you know it is working in Switzerland. Wanted to use my MacBook keyboard to type messages from my phone, but for whatever reason impossible to have the typical Swiss-French keys. This specific keyboard is selected on both devices but the outcome on the mirrored iPhone is always as if a US keyboard. A pity.
If you want to take phone calls on your Mac, you already can with the FaceTime app. Not sure how well that works in different situations as I rarely need it. But for "WhatsApp" not sure what capabilities it has on the iPhone or the Mac, sorry.
Connection keeps failing for me. I'm on the lastest OS on Mac and phone but I have noticed that my old iMac Pro has a few issues like Voice Control not working. For Voice Control, have tried uninstalling Norton and switching off Nord VPN but no go. Might be something to do with old hardware.
The is the best video for iPhone Mirroring. Thanks very much! You may want to make a part 2 video about closing an App, drag & drop not working on Whatsapp, having 2 iPhones etc. (i.e. more tips).
That's nothing like what I'm showing here. Kinda the opposite. But you can do it with the "iTunes Remote" app from Apple on your iPhone. Been around for 15 years.
6:40. Everything works great, EXCEPT typing. Cursor shows up in Mirroring, but no response when typing. Very annoying. Haven’t found any troubleshooting for it yet.
@@macmost Tried restarts of each device. Turning off/on handoff on each device. Non-Apple and Mac Keyboard. Even different Macs -- My MB-Air and home system. Notta. Typing just doesn't work. I liked iPhone mirroring, but I found it messed with my default ethernet connection, and instead connected the internet via WiFi which is slower. I did re-check the order of connection in network settings, but it still connected to WiFi. So I just turn WiFi off now.
It all falls apart when you have to deal with passwords on your iPhone. The other issue is it makes the iPhone hot and that can damage the internals and your iPhone battery over time.
I have a NAS for all my storage needs, my MBP is connected to the network via a 1GB LAN - all good. However if I have my WiFi on for iPhone mirroring and I try to transfer a large file to my NAS, the transfer speed crawls to _painfully_ slow - it's almost as if the computer doesn't know which to use for the transfer, so. switches between the two connections. Turn off the WiFi, and it flies again. As a result of this, I tend to never use the mirroring app ☹
Windows / Android has had cell phone mirroring for many years. It was janky to start with and to this day remains as janky. Looks like they are not actively developing it anymore as most likely their telemetry showed limited use. Hopefully Apple will follow through to make it smooth and not let it stagnate. Most people try to use these new features once and if it sucks they never try again. Apple historically succeeded with its software and hardware as they were always polished on release and people learn to use them instead of getting annoyed and never trying again.

iPhone Mirroring is a nice concept, but poorly executed. The majority of the time that you want to use it, it will say "Connect" or erroneously "iPhone in Use." So, usually it's quicker to just use your iPhone instead. Though this video guide is useful, most of the time you'll avoid Mirroring, and it will be yet another Apple feature that looks cool, but then you rarely use it.
What’s the point of iPhone mirroring? If you can already make and receive calls, send and receive messages, and even use FaceTime directly on a Mac, why is iPhone mirroring necessary? Most Mac users can also access their iCloud files, use Safari to browse websites, and even leverage Apple’s ecosystem to share photos and documents seamlessly between devices. So what exactly justifies mirroring, when it seems like nearly all essential features are already available natively on a Mac?

What is it you are trying to do in that case? If you are already using the iPhone as a webcam with your Mac, why do you need to also mirror it at the same time?
I will only use this feature when Apple finally found a way to be able to use this just like how airplay works. Otherwise, it's useless and impractical
Your iPhone also needs to be basically sitting on your Mac! It's almost pointless you might as well just pickup your phone!! If it worked via WiFi I could leave my iPhone downstairs, then use it upstairs on my Mac, but no, Apple didn't think of that! So it's useless.
Not sitting on it. Works fine in your pocket, on your desk or even on your bag in the same room. It needs high-throughput local Wi-Fi to work, device to device. I don't think you'll get what you want unless there is a major hardware change.
What's the problem with that? The idea is not remote access here. It is being able to keep it: in your pocket, in your bag, on a charger. And then to be able to use it without moving your hands from your keyboard/pointer to a completely different input device. That's what it is meant to do. Remote access would be a whole other thing.
@@macmost What is the point of having your phone near the Mac? Just pickup the damn phone! If it worked via WiFi then you could leave your phone anywhere in the house and do the exact same thing! Surly Apple could have done that?

Gary, Thank you for another very informative video. Looks like you covered all of the bases.
Are you able to use landscape mode? What happens if you watch a landscape video or launch a landscape mode game?

If you launch an app that is landscape-only, then it switches to horizontal, yes. Not sure with a video. Try it and see.

Yes. Like if an app is only horizontal, then it shows it properly. Try it and see. A lot of games work this way.
