Enjoyed your video. Great job. I have been making spoked wheels for classic cars. They are 3 1/8" outside diameter. I put 8 - 1/8" bamboo spokes in my wheels and add an outside tread to cover the ends of the spokes. The bamboo spokes are made from squires that can be purchased in most kitchen hardware stores. To drill the 1/8" hole in the rim and hub I use a 1/8" round ball Dremel bit. Unlike a drill bit it has a solid shaft and won't flex like the drill bit. After setting the spokes into the rim and hub (maple), I add the outside tread (black walnut) and trim to 3" on the lathe.

Great idea on the dremel bit. The 24 spoke wheels with regular drill bits was a challenge. I have a number of small dowels that I picked up, I think the dollar store.

you can get a bag of about 200 5/64 inch dowels, 2 1/2 inch long, at Michael's or Hobby Lobby for a few $. I found them to be more consistent when I needed pins to build excavator treads.

Thanks, makes a nice wheel with minimum effort. Hardest part is drilling the holes with little deflection. Stiff drill and high speed works well. The changing grain as you go around is a problem. Just drill slowly.
