I had a 1400 sq foot cabin that I heated with a Regency Warm hearth. I burned around two to three cords a winter. Using an ATV and a trailer it took me about a week working every day to fall the trees, cut them into 6 foot lengths and bring them to the yard. Then I would buck them to stove length, split and stack them. What I noticed was every year as I aged that became a little harder. Having an abundant source so close would be much easier as you could scavage all year round. Great video Thanks!
Falling the trees was your first mistake. Cutting down live trees is probably illegal, but a dead tree that has already fallen on its own is ok to take. The benefit of taking a dead tree is that it is already dry, so when you cut the 6' lengths, they don't weigh nearly as much. Then you can split it right away, and it is also ready to burn without waiting.
@@e-curb You have to cut standing dead trees. If a tree lays on the ground for very long at all the wood turns punky and has no heat value. If birch is not split right away it will go punky even after it is cut to stove length. You can see white poplar begins to turn a pinkish/yellow hue and soon goes bad. Poplar dies from the top so it is easy to spot them and they are best cut before they totally die and then season for two years. Black poplar has poor heat value so I avoided those. Spruce has too much pitch for a wood stove and can cause chimney fires if you are not careful.
12:41- Ha ha! It's sustainable, man - the trees are so good, soon as you chop 'em down, plant new. In warmer climes, we can plant gums & rotate the crop in around 8-years. I love our wood burner - it's from Oregon, I believe & we're in Australia. I love your set up.
Love it! Wondering how much a system like this would cost? I've got 2 main buildings and 2 cabins + a pump house. This system would be ideal for what we need it for!
Why don't you insulate the pipes in the unconditioned spaces? I have foam on all of mine and it made a noticeable difference to oil use, and the the temperature in the basement... it's a lot cooler.
Another great video . Watch all your vids on the flood it was best way to say informed about the big problems BC had . Is your wood hardwood or softwood Douglasfir?
Great video, your system is pretty fancy compared to my wood boiler setup. Just spent the entire day yesterday replacing corroded black iron pipe on my boiler before temps drop to -30 tomorrow. not fun.
The Greta clip timing was gold!

Hello great home spun video lucky you guys looking to the future for heating lots of bells and whistles.❤️ it ✌️🏆🤔

Wow, you all seem to have "a most excellent life" there
Glad to see you guys !
Thanks for putting this video on your heating system together!!
Thank you so much for showing how you heat your homes, in the UK we have gas but all the exposed cooper pipes are foam insulated stops heat lose .
Regarding the blow back warning on the double door boiler, in what situations might that be a risk?
When it has a load in it and the blower is off the fire it starving for air, for sure don’t open the door then. Like the movie “Back Draft”
thanks that was very interesting and 5 cords sounds like a lot but as you said your heating a lot of sq ft
Quite the complex system. Think I will stick with our baseboard heaters. 😊 Love them until power goes out. Thx for big doggie fix. Nice ice rink.
Great job living the dream
really impressive heating system!!!
Man the forest is beautiful there
great video ..really interesting
He gave you all the knotted logs😆
Burns the same.
It's just tougher to split when you are in an alder splitting "race" with your dad 😀
Excellent video.
How dare you LOL!
Nice set up😉
Getting better 👍👍
Keep up the good work.
Awesome vid !!! Super Canadian great info on heating off grid 👍
Incredible system, what kind of school ? event place is this?
😂 “yeah, we gotta a lot of stuff going on here!”. 🤣
(And that’s a cut 🎬 folks.)
Ya kill me lol. Thx for sharing 🍻.
AMAZING!!!!! Loving it.
Is that a saw mill on ur patio? Oh my..... my dream. I highly doubt many other women can say they want a covered saw mill on their patio but i do.
Another great video . Watch all your vids on the flood it was best way to say informed about the big problems BC had . Is your wood hardwood or softwood Douglasfir?
Mostly fir, hemlock, cedar. Some alder.
@@SteBros did you look at Heatmaster before you purchased yours

If you are off grid, what runs all the pumps for the heating system? You must have a large generator for all those buildings. Nice set up.
You’d have to go back through their videos there’s one showing them where they run water through pipes down off the mountain to the generator
nice property
You guys should have a Pelton Wheel especially with all the water
Will you be posting more awesome videos? Me and a few thousand people are kinda wondering.
Hope you guys are well 🙌🏽
just like my outdoor boiler, mostly... i also have an open loop system on the same firebox that's for our turbine, it generates all the electricity
Bin awhile, thanx!
Kinda missing more Stebros action packed episodes.
Yah...do that splitting in the summer and see if it goes that easy!
God stuff.
good stuff
Impressive wood 🪵 🪓 splitting procedure 🏆
