Thank you Carte Blanche for opening the comment section... Masa Kekana did a brilliant job on the previous report regarding Accountability and Transunion. She grilled that guy properly. 👌👏👏👏
There's this Netflix Documentary Series called "Rotten", where they explore the issues of food and water through making analogies of them in the form of currencies. They cover from water to wine, from chickens to frutis, there's an episode about Avocadoes on there...
Absolutely my brother. Including livestock farming. People are increasingly getting discouraged of livestock farming due to theft etc. Thus, this has pushed meat prices high particuly red meat.
Thermal imaging cameras nowadays have excellent quality you can Mount a thermal imaging camera on a pole and monitor an entire crop in pitch dark you can buy a thermal imaging camera available to consumers these multimillion-dollar industry could surely use this it would simplify their jobs you will be able to monitor and see anyone walking in the field in pitch darknessthis camera is also allow for motion sensor and AI nowadays can tell the difference between a human and animal the system will cost nothing to implement for these multimillion rand corporations
and how much do you think that would cost on a 20 hectare farm? with someone manning the control room 24/7. Then also a reaction team to follow up if anyone is spotted. having guards patrol works out cheaper in most cases
NO, NO NO. The ANC cannot keep anyone in poverty if everyone uses initiative and starts providing for themselves. That free stand given to you is a home and business opportunity. The community must stand together and work together. We plant an avo tree in my yard and on the side walk. Under the tree you plant vegetables. The neighbors plant a macadamia tree and other vegetables. The neighbors after them lemon trees and more vegetables. I give you 5 lemons, you give me 5 avos . I give you carrots, you give me cabbage. Everything that we don't eat, dry or swop we sell. We have food, a job and an income.
@@BentleyBohemian_96 You might be correct, I live in Giyani (Mopani district) and village near Punda Maria gate KNP (Vhembe district), 🥑 trees are everywhere that site.
@ Kevin Rico, thieves , syndicates are everywhere. I was marked over the weekend, my body still in pain from that incident, but I'm very clear this incident could have happened in any country. Yes some countries better than others
Market stalls are not the problem. If the grocery stores could compete with the markets at a price point there'd be no market for the stall sellers. The resulting spread seems to be compensatory in some ways and beneficial to consumers
Really, I'm from Jamaica. Every year we have Natural Organic Real Big Avocado 🥑 in it season in Jamaica every year waste on the ground. No fertilizer, Nothing, just mother nature.😄😄😄. That what I call Avocado.
@ Victor Langford, Poverty is a serious threat in the country. For sure poverty is one of the driving forces of such crimes, there are definitely more serious factors that needs serious attention
If the avos weren't stolen, prices would go down. Remember the supermarket also puts his cut and the market agent takes his commission, so the farmer doesn't get that much.
@@lizeggar2421 that's a lie ....they even stated In this video that the hike in the price is one of the reason people started stealing them cause they are no high in value....why don't other forms of fruit farmers have this problem at this rate
This is not new. High value crops like vanilla beans are stolen by syndicates which leads to low quality products entering the market and eventually costs the consumer.
This is so sad but unfortunately, I'm still gonna buy from food vendors because they're just way too expensive and there is no employment. On top of that we trying to live a long and healthy life.
Please clarify the inequality statement. Anyone can own an avo or other tree. They just have to plant it. Everyone can be a businessman by selling veggies or fruit from their home garden. It is time we stop making excuses and start helping ourselves by accepting that what we get out is directly proportional to what we put in.
So someone must design a hand held Lazer etching tool that is very cheap to manufacture and easy to use. Employ local workers and go etch the farm Name or a code on the skin of the Avo. Caught with those Avos without a receipt, nail them. Just the ones in arms reach. Yes, one day they'll start chopping down branches or trees, but by then the deterrent will have slowed theft down and farmers will have more money for FLIR cameras etc.
We need to change the way we do things. Teach people the value of ownership and self reliance. The real evil is free this and free that. People have not connected the dots that planting your own trees and veggies equal s both food and an income.
why have avos become so expensive? You guys have created your own problems. Greed. Avos where never so expensive. Reduce the price and see the crimes end.
Because Avos became the "superfood" we have to make this choice; R20 for one Avo is the store OR R50 for 5 at the Robot.. Robot sounds like a better deal... sorry to say.
There are two sides to every coin. The farmer has to buy the land, borrow the money, carry any losses and run the business. The workers get paid whether the harvest is a flop or not. They do not physically pay back the loans, or put their money in and run the risks. I am 100% behind the principle that those that work the land must make the income off the land. I also beleive that if the harvest is a flop the must carry the burden too. You cannot just have the good.
As usual Carte Blanche is lazy/biased in its approach and dubious in its intent. Do a proper investigation or leave it. You cast aspersions on micro traders, generalize and tarnish their reputation. Meanwhile the syndicates and ring leaders are given a free pass. Why didn’t you visit the security company that steals bakkie loads? Most large scale crimes are controlled by a hierarchy. The Mexican scenario is a clue. You’d rather bother subsistence traders on the roadside while driving back to Jhb. No real concern for getting to the core of the story. No care what damage you do to the reputation of street vendors. I won’t be surprised if your trip was paid for by the avo association or big retailers who want to keep shoving absurd prices down our throats. Unfortunately your approach is not isolated to this story. I’ve seen a pattern. I hope your viewers discern more.
If the land can be expropriated then the would be a fair distribution of the Market and competitive pricing effect. This as a result of the few controlling an industry in demand

Claire Mawisa is still sooo beautiful 😍
Claire Mawisa is beautiful and brilliant at her job
Toast with avo on it dressed with a bit of salt and pepper and a squeeze of lemon juice. That is why everyone wants it... . .
This explains a lot.. just bought roadside avos and they taste watery.... no creaminess at sight...
When I Arrived In Burundi After Living In Capetown, And Bought A Super Large Organic Avocado For About 2 Rand I Knew I Was Staying Here.
3:15 😂😂 I love Claire Mawisa
I grew my own tree in my yard avo trees grow wold even in the bushes in KZN ALMOST EVERY YARD HAS A TREE

True.. watched it ..
I watched it, they exposed a lot about the food industry
Thanks for the heads up. Will check it out.
we must protect farming, otherwise we gonna regret when the country is running without food

Got me at Grand Theft Avo! 😅
I’m saddened by this!!! This beautiful country is going down at such a rapid rate ☹️
This gives me a craving for avocado
I'm just watching all Claire's videos, great scenery 🥰
We're able to comment at long last!
Lol... "I know the farmer"
😂😂😂
So sad
Very cute!
Hi quality content, always
So sad. These farmers feeds families by employing people and they need to feed their families
I can't believe you guys are trying to suggest that people shouldn't buy from street hawkers... Some of those people have their own trees nogal
Really!
@@peterzylstra6500 yes
Macadamia farmers are experiencing the same problem
Sympathies to the farmer but the price of avos in stores lately truly is outrageous
As with vegetables the farmers really get far less than what the shops sell it for.
I love avocados.
Especially with salt and pepper.
🤤🤤🤤🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
In 2021 my Avocados were stolen, almost the whole tree. I stay in kanana hammanskraal. They steal even fruits and sell them on the roadside
What a sad country we live in. Businesses are helping our country's well-being, yet the enemies of progress invade with impunity!
Tzaneen my home town 😍😍😍😍😁😁

avos was R1.50 now 20 30 bux right im becoming a farmer

stop crime,..grow your own,
Why is it ok to steal from farmers, not only their produce, animals and even their lives.

So very sad.
We haven't had an avo in at least two years or so because of how expensive they've become.
I here for Claire 🤭

Market stalls are not the problem. If the grocery stores could compete with the markets at a price point there'd be no market for the stall sellers. The resulting spread seems to be compensatory in some ways and beneficial to consumers
You got it. These days buying directly from the farmer is more expensive than buying from the store.

They're still poaching it. At least the customers will get a better quality product.

If the avos weren't stolen, prices would go down. Remember the supermarket also puts his cut and the market agent takes his commission, so the farmer doesn't get that much.

Avo? That was a bit irritating.
So you teach poachers where the farms are and how to harvest properly, 🤣
I doubt the people who need to steal Avocados for a living have access or insight to youtube videos
At least they do not damage the trees and buyers get a better product.
Should the farmers not ask themselves why their staff could be incentivised to steal and sell farmer produce 🦥
