The Jim and Derrick Show | Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! | adult swim 1943pm 31.3.23 i mis-read that i thought it said: go get a job... i was waiting for some sage advice from the show and the lads... sadly not....
I miss this type of TV. I remember watching shows like these with my best friend in 2004 before my life took a complete nose dive I’m still recovering from
I reckon it was more like that one with Ashton Kutcher. Punk'd. That period of "entertainment" was so unbelievably lame. Dunno if kids today have it any better but at least T&E and Adult Swim generally came along and shook things up.
What makes this especially hilarious to me is that when this first aired, 2008/2009, the MTV/G4TV vibe they were parodying really wasn't that long gone (early 00's mainly), but even then it felt so dated they could satirize it as well as they did the 80s and 90s.
Nah this aesthetic is very mid/late 2000s , if I had to date it, I would date it 2007, so it aired around the same time this aesthetic was at it’s peak
This was such a pitch perfect parody of a style of TV presenting that had barely even started going out of vogue by the time it was made. This episode was from 2008. Tim and Eric captured the identity of the 2000s before most people even thought the 2000s had an identity.
The framing may have changed but look at Rob Dyrdek - with the (MTV) show 'ridiculousness'. A 50 year old pretending to be 20. Same stuff, but steal other peoples content and then make really really bad "jokes". Cant blame him though, basically stealing money to create nothing of value for thousands and thousands of dollars and zero effort
To this day me and my friends use this as a response when someone describes something to us. “It’s a new burger joint in town!” “I wish she was my burger joint”
@@MarvinMonroe I’m not sure. This particular style was on its way out. By 08 I was pretty much checked out of mass culture, but I think the general stakes of everything expedited a shift in styles, after this we enter the age of the hipster
*Returns 10 Months Later as is Typical of Classic T+E Bits on RUclips* - Tim's "I am very much under the influence of some sort Benzo without the threat of Fentanyl as it's 2006" half open eyes is also stunningly accurate to this period of MTV/TV history.
This is exactly what a real show that Zach galifianakis hosted on VH1 at 2:00 in the morning was actually like. In like 2003 before anyone knew who he was.
FuelTV? That was a thing right? Mountain Dew Code Red, Slim Jims, Taco Bell, obviously energy drinks of all sorts. Even Salvia RUclips vids, remember those? Vaping kinda became all that stuff rolled into one
HAHAH wow adult swim you pulled really fast one on me this time I am huge fan of tim and erik and when i read the title in notification i slowly read it like "the jim... and DERRICK show? wow its been a while since they threw a new show out of the blue at us." HAHAH then right after i ready TIM AND ERIC like wow lol if these guys were ever wanted they just gotta change there name and not even a whole lot obv. I would not be able to tell you got some amazing awesome actors and actresses for animation too! STAY AWESOME ADULT SWIM!
I really wish you were talking about Tim and Eric Awesome Show Great Job and not the tryhard, edge of MTV/G4/Spike that they're making fun of. People really can be nostalgic for anything.
If I saw this on Mtv back in 05-09 I would've been laughing like a hyena because i was an immature teen boy. Now, as a 33 year old man with my own home and good job. I still laugh that way because my humor hasn't matured at all.
This bit and the way it's edited (even down to T and E's costumes) is actually stunningly accurate to this period in MTV/TV history (2000 - 2008ish)

Viva la bam was definitely the inspiration for this episode
@@the_local_bigamistI think they have it good bc Tim and Eric were so influential, everyone today like Eric Andre was inspired by Mr Show and T&E

This is pretty much what it was like in the aughts, especially prior to the 08 collapse. Kids this is what about 35% of television was
Did 08 crash have anything to do with the change? Seems to me this stuff went on until at least 2011. Guess smartphones changed the video style
