Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Review

- Published on Mar 11, 2026
- Metroid Prime 4: Beyond reviewed by Logan Plant on Nintendo Switch 2, also available on Nintendo Switch 1.
It doesn't take psychic powers to see the ideal vision Metroid Prime 4: Beyond was aiming for: it tries to mix the excellent Prime formula with a character-focused story and a large hub world to explore. It doesn't quite reach that ambitious goal, with an outdated open desert area that mostly feels like padding and a cast of characters that provide both a handful of memorable moments and too much chatter at times. But none of its issues come close to ruining Prime 4, which is still an excellent comeback thanks to incredible peaks that are almost entirely self-contained from its stumbles. It mostly knows when to leave Samus alone, and a significant chunk of this 15-hour adventure is spent in delightfully atmospheric solitude. It nails the essential elements of a Prime game that remain special decades later: tense exploration through haunting locations highlighted by amazing worldbuilding, breathtaking art direction, new twists on classic abilities, and flawless technical performance. Even though a few underdeveloped elements keep it from feeling as cohesive as its predecessors, Prime 4 reaches heights worthy of the Metroid name.

I swear its Nintendo that asked for the desert + motorcycle thing…
Probably the reason they had to reboot the whole project, and still didn't work
They should've leaned more into Dead Space/Lost Planet territory & added in a whole new Melee combat system with quick time event combos, chain combos (Arkham style) & finishers that would make the combat more visceral & heart pumping (imagine pulling the enemy towards you w/ your left hand, morphing into a ball & then unleashing a devastating elbow/clothesline maneuver w/ you right arm.
At this stage, Nintendo has seemingly lost itself and its creativity. A good number of fans don't like Breath of The Wild (I'll admit it is good, but I personally do not enjoy it, I'd rather have a more advanced take on the Ocarina/TWP/Windwaker formula...heck..even a COOP Zelda with classical gameplay would be amazing....Imagine It Takes Two style Dungeon puzzles, etc. 1p uses Link, 2p uses Sheik....I'd love to see them go back to that GameCube era promo trailer art style that got dropped.
🤷♂️
I wouldn’t doubt it if shiguru Miyamoto went to retro studios and the game was basically perfected and finished . And he said not enough “new” stuff added. Add a open world area; and bike!
I swear Nintendo needs to keep the OG developers away from game development completely! lol shiguru Miyamoto was a genius game developer who imagined all these great series. But I think after the N64 he’s a large part of the reason the gamecube didn’t reach the full potential it deserved.
He was a very stubborn developer about what his properties should be. And he was very stubborn about ignoring obvious trends like using CDs, editing mature content, thinking games had to be childish. He is the best thing that happen to Nintendo and also held them back for so many years.
When the switch came out in 2017 along with BOTW & Mario Odyssey shiguru Miyamoto had stepped away from console & game development almost completely. And that’s when things started skyrocketing for them again!
It’s great he’s working on the movie and amusement parks now instead of the tech and game development side of Nintendo.
@toofancyjr4700 They actually kinda already have with the Metroid 2 remake and Metroid 5 Dread. Even just adding that mechanic would’ve made this much better. You know I’m still gonna play it though
But also the guy that did this review isn’t a big Metroid fan. His favorite Metroid prime game is Metroid 2 🤦🏻♂️ and his reviews all sound the same.
He focuses on all the negatives through most of the review and then end up giving the game a 8 or 9. He’s done this for a few games already.
So this game is probably actually exactly what it needs to be! Plus the bike stuff/open world probably isn’t as bad as he’s making it seem.
Remember he made that video saying the game had a fatal flaw because it had a story/npc talking characters and wasn’t a mute silent game 🤦🏻♂️😂😂. Now he took all that back.
He does it for the views/ragebait. Which makes his review invalid tbh 🤷🏻♂️. On metacritic I think the game is currently sitting at a 82 👍🏼
Someone check on Arlo and make sure he's staying hydrated
@guy4835 nah forget that dramatic little puppet
He likes Pokemon ZA… he’ll be alright lol
@guy4835 lmaooo
😂
He's still recovering from the pikmin incident
I really like the ending discussion part, hope ign does that more often for their reviews
Release 2 and 3!
Just port 2&3 with higher resolution and framerate. I don’t want to jump from 1 to 4.
The trilogy is better than beyond
4 is a prequel to 1
YES. Fucking no reason to Nintendo Just do it, everyone wants it.
Just play doom instead
The best thing IGN has done in recent years is the talks with the reviewer after.
How long have they been doing this? I didn't even know until this one and it's awesome.
Pretty much every other reviewing site has had ‘personal thoughts’ section since the beginning of time.
@kevinismyboo I wanna say 1-2 years?
@JSYorkThey didnt say it was original or groundbreaking, just that they really like it here
And as far as game reviews go, most dont.There are plenty that do but most try to make the video as short as possible (usually under 10min, sometimes a bit more)
They don’t do this for every game
"Sarge, look, she's doing Morph Ball" jfc
I literally died of laughter
when i heard that, I had to pause the video for a minute. Arlo is going to crashout lol
I love when Samus says "it's morphin' time" and then morphs all over the place
@icehouse83tHeN uR dUmB.
ActMan and AngryJoe, probably
felt like a parody
It’s been 84 years.
84 is a metacritic score Metroid 4 wishes it could get 😂
@RUclipsChannel-iq5to"Metroid 4"
Spotted the quarternary
@RUclipsChannel-iq5toits like 3 measly points behind, does it really matter kid?
That it is my boi. You can finally rest
@RUclipsChannel-iq5to I didn't know we were talking about Fusion
Shes doing the heckin morph ball bazinga
didn't know Samus was a Marvel character.
Great comment

The post review talk and interview with more context during the process is extremely welcome and refreshing to see
Sounds like the bike sections could have been better adapted for speed boosting tbh. Should have done that instead. Throw some shine sparking puzzles, cliffs, etc...
@AlfredoFettuccine-Rosso this is what I thought the moment I saw the bike. Speed boost has been the one major Samus ability that they've never done in a Prime game, so this would have been perfect. The bike feels more like an excuse for Samus to be in Mario Kart lol
or just dont put open world seevtions in a metroid prime game. a new starfox game is long overdue anyways.
I feel like a first person shine spark wouldn’t feel very good in actual gameplay.
@valkyriedawnI mean, they could just take it out to a third person camera for when you're speed boosting and shine sparking. The bike is already third person.
@brohannsebastianbach1212 me personally, I wouldn't want to see Samus running as fast as a car in a giant area for longer than two minutes. Bike seems like a fair compromise
My body is Reggie
My Reggie is body
Body is My Reggie
Ok!
My body is reggae 🇯🇲
Gold, like the mans teeth.
ERM AM I ALONE ON A PLANET? DID THAT JUST HAPPEN!??
IT'S BEHIND ME ISN'T IT
Did I just control my charge shot with my freaking mind!?
🤨
WOWIE ZOWIEEEE
Did I just move that with my mind?!?
Ngl, this is the first time in a while I’ve watched an IGN review all the way through, didn’t know about the reviewer interview at the end. Really liked that part, great addition
I'm surprised. It's actually a well made review. From IGN.
I was pleasantly surprised too
People make fun of IGN reviews but those parts at the end remind you that it’s just guys who like videos writing these things.
Maybe they get some corporate pressure to say a game is decent but you can’t fake enthusiasm and passion for games
They really have upped their game lately, especially with this specific reviewer
Fr
4:29 At this point, the MP2 gyroscope deserves a cameo credit every time Retro reuses it.
Nice noticing. I remember that part from mp2. You morph ball around it and first you have to solve a color puzzle with words for colors.
"It was you, you were Metroid (2025) all along!"
Amazing comment
Perhaps the real Metroid was the friends we made along the way.
When I saw that bike part in the trailers... This is all I thought.
Nothing wrong with the bike you’re just not smart enough to appreciate this obvious masterpiece.
If my grandmother had wheels she would have been a bike
@ManifestScrutiny is this comment meant to be satire?
@MRW1NKLEyes
@MRW1NKLE I am serious. Play the actual game like I did. It’s an obvious masterpiece. This reviewer is a dumm@$$BBIITTCCCHH!!!!
“Sarg look! It’s giving Morph Ball 💁🏼♀️”
😄
Samus fans every time she refuses to crawl.
Mega missed opportunity to include an over-the-shoulder speed booster/shinespark on Samus and instead get a dumb bike.
@swordrush 100%
Dang didn't even think of that, smart.
Right?
Like ship for the surface open world areas, and shinespark for surface and cave open world areas, if they were necessary at all.
Really hope down the road we get a glimpse of the scrapped version.
knowing Nintendo, never gonna happen. maybe it'll leak in 20 years
Why? If it was scrapped, it probably sucks.
@ArcadianGenesis because it’d be nice to know just how bad the game was to justify a 5 year delay.
I think this is actually far from over, I do feel this will get a DLC expansion of some kind. It took Nintendo multiple years to even make it here, so I don’t think the base game is all we seeing. 🏮
@Edenia93i thought the same thing. Some kind of DLC to flesh out the open desert would be nice. Like Spartan Ops kinda dlc or something.
This is like the only outlet who have also played this on Switch 1. Glad to know it runs well on there too even though I’m getting the Switch 2 version
9:53 just met samus irl and forget to kneel
It’s been 1000 years 😅 it’s finally here.
Bike doubters were right
Yup. If it was great, they would’ve presented it a lot better in the previews.
Why TF would Nintendo make Samus ride a generic motorbike? Could they not invent a new idea for a Metroid-themed hoverboard, landspeeder, pod racer, or even skiff from Gears 5?
Samus' spaceship looks like her helmet but Samus' motorbike just looks like a generic sci-fi motorbike.
@johnes2337 Exactly, like why not at least try to match the theme/aesthetic better and make something more unique? Same with Link driving a motorcycle, it's just dumb.
Give Samus a vehicle similar to a Halo ghost or something. Anything but a generic bike. It handles so cartoonishly too with the attacks and sliding.
@johnes2337motorbike go boom
@johnes2337 Zero creativity. I said the same thing in the Metroid sub but got buried by glazers
So is the tldr on prime 4 reviews is that the prime parts are peak while the open world stuff/marvel ass dialogue is the worst?
Yes. So just like always, the Metroid stuff is great, the stuff that deviates doesn't work. What a shock.
In all honesty though, it is shocking how little Nintendo understands this franchise. Prime 1 and Dread are the best selling Metroid games so far. The blueprint is like, right there.
@r@robbanbobban2 agreed, same thing could be said for mario kart world
It’s a 15 hour game too…
Watching people's opinions after having played the game myself and I'll say that it's certainly true. Motorcycle was pointless, extra characters eventually become less grating and don't bother you too much, the actual Metroid Prime parts of the game are as good as ever and the environments are cool. Ending sucks and the script writers are Japanese apparently making me think that the script from the now cancelled Metroid Prime 4 we were gonna get before they restarted development was used here which is why the dialogue is cringe, the characters are forced in, sylux has very little to do with the game and the ending feels uncharacteristic of what a western developer would do with the story and is unsatisfying (I sincerely feel like Samus failed her mission with how it ends LOL)
But I'll say, glad they ditched the anime Samus in prime 2 and 3, as well as the 2D games, and we got a Samus that looks like a real woman like the first game again
dont buy it, dont support them putting out crap
I will get the desert portion of the game out of the way as fast as possible. It felt like a Nintendo executive said hey we need to put an open world desert because its what the kids like lol
@samushunter0048 or they just abandoned what they were planning to do with the desert.
Bro every game has to have OP for no reason lol
It is kinda the core of the game as it is your main hub between all new areas
Honestly if it gets more people to buy into it to check out the other titles, I can groan through it. More Metroid is always good.
Nintendo doesn’t listen to kids or consumers (unless forced), it’s much more likely that investors were demanding an open-world mechanic, even though the trend should be buried by now
Thanks for the in-depth review logan!
I feel like in a board meeting someone point out lonely atmosphere is the reason they do not sell.
God i hope there is a voice volume option.
@sneed915 there is
@vhrunnerthank God. Its getting turned to 0 immediately.
@vhrunnerthat's about the only viable way to enjoy this without the NPCs sounding like marvel characters.
Just turn the subtitles off too because they never say anything relevant.
After 17 years I’ll take it
@Starpluckr too much time for a remake of the same things and a really bad desert
@jj97021 Expecting Nintendo to ever release anything that isn’t just the same stuff from decades ago combined with outdated mechanics other games used decades ago is unrealistically optimistic.
@RowRowRowBoatpretty much
You’re part of the problem.
@jj97021 You're really bad at abstractions
14:04 Logan needs to get some step risers for that amiibo collection.
Not having interconnecting regions is a huge miss
@JREYEARIGHTit helps convey a sense of place more convincingly, better immersing you. Plus you can do fun things with unexpected shortcuts and looping level design, like that Dark Souls feeling of 'Ohhh!' when you open a new path to an earlier area.
@JREYEARIGHT do you never play metroid
@JREYEARIGHTits literally what makes a metroid game a metroid game but ok
@JREYEARIGHT Yeah the game that is known for that absolutely doesn't need that.
@JREYEARIGHT Metroid basically invented that style of world design and it's known for it. So it's baffling that it wouldn't have it and instead it's a boring open world
8 years for a score of 8.
18 not 8
They should have worked on it for two more
@surtursaga6789Wouldn't have been a Switch 1 game at that point and it would've pissed off the fanbase and canibalized sales.
An 8 is not bad. Y'all are so fucking miserable
*6 years, development was restarted in 2019 with a different studio.
13:20 Verdict.
lol an 8, this game is a mess
Definitely no under table cash deals going on with IGN
Oh oh she's doing morph ball!.... It's going to get real nerdy in here! :(
as a lifelong metroid fan (i even have a huge metroid tattoo all across my torso), i KNEW this wouldn’t live up to (critics) expectations. personally, im sure i will enjoy it, but i don’t think it’ll be the masterpiece that the OG prime, fusion, and dread were, and somehow, im ok with that. i’m just gonna play and have fun. hope everyone else can enjoy it too.
Bro they gave it an 8 what? 💀
@ITMeCEit’s even tanking into the 70s on metacritic
I’m right there with you. Prime games have always released to universal critical acclaim and yet their sales have remained underwhelming nonetheless compared to other Nintendo series. Maybe a game that doesn’t cater to critics and hardcore fans may be the one that allows the series to have its breakthrough moment. I am staying positive at least until I play the game for myself and form my own opinion.
Fusion isn’t that good
@RUclipsChannel-iq5to it’s an 81 on metacritic….
That's an interesting looking door at 9:25...
Look at 6:55 as well. That's intentional.
Have you guys ever actually seen female genitalia in person? 😅 this looks nothing like it.
It's quite...flappy. 🤔
Yer uh fahg
Yer uh feg
I figured the desert would be bleh!
Just wish it had more life and beauty in it.
I’m still excited
Yeah, just like the real desert. There's so much to do in real desert! Oh wait...
It’s…..a……desert 🤡
@JNava6489 Morons love leaving sarcastic comments. You can have a desert map with fun things to do and see, e.g. Fallout New Vegas, Red Dead Redemption, Journey, Sable. You lack imagination
@JNava6489holy cope
@ant_989spoken like someone who has never been to a real desert. They are some of the most gorgeous and interesting places a human can visit. This desert looks like a cheap mobile game. Holy cope
Does anybody even watch the last segment after the review?
A lot of comments mentioned that they really enjoyed that part so yes.
I think that Logan was a legit reviewer for this title. Maybe he can help IGN re-capture some of their reviewing credibility. Mad props my guy. Keep up the good work.
Yeah hate to say it, but Logan Paul did a great job.
Ign just needs to die, all there reviewers need their asses beat, the numbered score just needs to die, its worthless, its useless and all these reviewers need to lose their job and YOU BITCH NEED TO PLAY THE F*ING GAME NOT TAKE THIS LOSERS WORDS
Every video game reviewers is shit.
Here's hoping they do remasters of Prime 2 and 3. I'm just wondering how standalone 4 is if you've only played the first game.
Prob after they gage how much this one sells
@LouisA90 The original trilogy’s arc is a complete story. I don’t see how Prime 4 could require anyone playing the previous games, even Prime 1. I assume this is like a 99% stand alone (with little nods to the previous game) that’s a one off, or the beginning of a new trilogy/saga.
@MAveric215 Oh ok I didn't know, I've only played the first Prime
Need a B team working on remasters of Prime 2 and 3 as well as Samus Returns and on top of that Retro needs to start work on 5. Also hoping Dread gets a sequel.
Nintendo
Usually builds its games off the idea that you don’t need to play all of the previous games to get the new one
Dread was Metroid 5 and all it needed was an opening recap
Metroid with a mouse should conceptually sound like a match in heaven. I'd have to try it for myself.
as someone whos played the Trilogy via Primehack. it is in fact excellent.
Dolphin + Prime Hack has been available for years and it plays great.
You can play entire trilogy Wii with mouse on PC or use real Wii mote, the wii mote pointer is better
@retrogamer64007 Mouse is better except for a few wii remote stuff in prime 3. My control scheme never let me shake off Gandreya, but I beat her on hypermode difficulty with defensive hypermode cheese.
@seal7513nah I used wii mote and it’s far better.
The opening line in the review made me audibly say "oh no..."
The 15 hour run time is a pretty welcome playthrough
Seems way too short to me for a prime game 8 years in the making. I expected a bigger adventure.
@MrOctavia1000 that’s fair. Everyone has their ideals
15 hrs for 70$? That’s actually insane
if its 15 hours for a non completionist playthrough im pretty hyped. thats much more than a standard playthrough of prime 1 or 2 iirc.
@MrOctavia1000tbf prime 1 is a 5 hour game on repeat playthoughs
It's great to hear SW1 version run good.
7:18 Erdtree confirmed. Samus becomes Elden Lord.
Thanks for mentioning the Switch 1 version! 🙏 I already knew the visuals would take a slight blow but I’m happy it’s a solid 60fps!
Excited to play on my OLED & will be looking forward to the Switch 2 version when I do decide to upgrade!
Man this! I was so afraid after playing the demo that it would wreck my oled Switch. I’ll def get this now methinks although I wish I could play at the highest settings I’m still not ready for the Switch2 yet.
If y'all were planning on getting a Switch 2 eventually, the "Switch 2 Edition" cartridges will play on both systems. It already has all the "upgrade" data on the cartridge so would save a little bit on system space later on also. I don't think most realize that so was just letting y'all know just in case.
do not buy this piece of doodoo butter game. just emulate one of the first 3.
6:14 It looks like the gun arm has condensation from the cold atmosphere but then that ice melts as the gun is firing because of the heat it produces. It’s quick. It’s a tiny detail. And it’s why I love this series.
This looks fucking boss. I know what I'm doing tomorrow. Now...where in the UK actually stocks physical copies of video games?
They should create a 3rd person Metroid with the full view of Samus blue bodysuit
I’m interested to see how it plays. I feel like a barren open area could work for Metroid if it had Shadow of the Colossus vibes.
I wonder when people will stop acting like Shadow of the Colossus wasn't also boring and empty.
@The_Iiving_St0ne nah SOTC is all about the vibes and themes man 👌
@BenjiH23That's fine for a movie, but as a game it's dull as hell.
@The_Iiving_St0ne it depends what you’re into. Both can be artistic I’d argue. I don’t get bored playing SOTC because I enjoy taking in the visuals and atmosphere.
It seems like the overworld probably could've done well with a bit more extra activities going on. Storytelling and gameplay through ruins or fauna throughout the desert. Shinespark challenges, bike racing/fighting Sylux's crew throughout. Even if it's a relatively small glorified hub world, it's best to fill it out with something. Thankfully the core elements that people look to Metroid Prime for are still intact.
The fact this is a switch 1 game at heart explains the desert with not much going on in it. If they continue and make it for the switch 2 from the get go then I think we will really see some amazing innovation.
I dunno, there’s plenty of open-zone and open world games on the Switch that can add stuff to their areas just fine.
@DuelaDent52not at 60fps
2025 the year of the 8
Considering Pokemon Legends Z-A also got 8, it's absolutely mindblowing to me. I mean the reviewer must be mental to give this title less than a 9.
@ant_989 Didnt that game suck ass though?
@SolidRaiden2655it does. Save file errors. Falling threw maps. A bunch of laziness
@SolidRaiden2655 yeah I don't really understand how modern pokemon games get more than 4/10 but I guess they get paid or won't get review copies if they give bad scores. Manufactured.
Anyone know if you get both Switch 1 & 2 versions if you only buy the Switch 2 version or do you have to buy the Switch 1 version and buy the upgrade pack? The Switch 1 version should ALWAYS be included when you buy the Switch 2 version.
Ah yes. Metroid Prime 4: The Skyward Sword
One of my fondest childhood memories is playing tens of hours of the first Prime on the cube... Looks like a solid return to form!
8/10 is pretty mediocre for a metroid but I guess people will take what they can get which is frustrating
@Caleb-il7omImagine looking at review scores and saying it's not worth it. If it makes fans happy this could be 6 and still be fun. Legit only two things to dock the points is vehicle open world and character annoying dialog sometimes.
@ravenwolfgamingshow have fun!
this looks like doodoo ass
So we're all going to just ignore what some of the doors look like especially when there opening 😂
6:49 me doing a double take and having to rewind to check if he said 15 hour runtime...
@Haviprime yeah that’s what heard too…
@Haviprime 15 hours is whack ngl
In line with the others!
Sameaat
@idoL.Handz.Collect Every prior Metroid prime game has a similar runtime. The transgression this time around is the need to make a filler area to achieve that benchmark.
Ngl the choice to forgo zone interconnectivity en lieu of single entrance from the hub is all I needed to hear. This isn’t for me
True, I really don't understand how they could fumble such a simple concept
Borderlands, Halo, and now Metroid prime all sci fi fps series that went open world for no reason any others im missing?
I may as well get the Switch 1 version at least it’s a solid 60 fps
Yea for sure if you dont own the 2
And you get the better box without all those stupid text ruining the art. You can always upgrade later.
@Ceejay-gl9ldshit that is true
@Ceejay-gl9ld who gaf about a box or the art on the box. tf
@plumkinn A lot of people like to collect game cases and like the art on the box
Logan Plant is one of the best hires IGN has made - great review
The post-review interview made me do a triple take. This dude's voice does NOT match his face at all 🤣
Terrible reviewer. He’s the most brainless. Prime 4 is just too smart for him to appreciate as an obvious masterpiece
@ManifestScrutiny Nintendo's meat must be huge if you're riding it this much.
@AnimalXing i disagree his Mario and Luigi brother ship review takes are some of the worst complaints
Bot spotted 😂
Wow I didn’t know the bike parts were going to be… like that…
Its an 8
Sounds like an Exec said it had to be open world and this was the compromise the devs made for it to be technically open world but still Prime
1:48 Oh how I've missed this sound effect.
The motorcycle would have been better if it was action levels. Not open world
It's only 15 hours!!? 😂 For $70? That's a pass.
im not saying you're wrong about $70, but this mindset is why they added the desert, to pad time. really they should have released the first game that was probably just about finished 5 years ago or whenever it had been initially planned to release.
@heymynameisharry That's partially true, but they should have reduced the garbage padding and made a 12 hour good game for $60 instead of a padded annoying one for $70.
Question, can you connect your own mouse and play with the left joycon and a mouse
The demo was fun. The gameplay was good and the graphics are good. It's a well polished game.
i cant believe they are soying and marveling metroid up in front of our eyes and there's nothing we can do about it
Dread was great and didn't do this, people will vote with their wallets it is what it is.
To this day I wonder what the game would have been like before it was scrapped and restarted. Obviously now you can see the industry-wide open-world trends in the style that surely wouldn’t have been around long before.
Why not a morph ball upgrade rather than a bike.
Or speed booster, or a jet pack, or anything else more Metroid-like than a two wheeled terrestrial motorbike...
Or Samus’ Ship! I wanted more of that ship stuff from Prime 3!
Wah. Develop your own game
they turn metroid into zelda.....
Metroid Prime has always been Zelda. The level design of the original trilogy is basically a huge Zelda dungeon
I always thought Zelda and Metroid shared some of the same DNA in that you have this semi open map that you slowly unlock with more gadgets/abilities.
It's Halo and og zelda compined. That's the prime formular
@saulitix absolutely wrong
the thunder lighting area looks amazing! I also saw another video where Samus was driving down a neon road - was giving tron legacy vibes
From the various other reviews I've seen or read. This game reads like a 9 or 9.2. Sure. It's rethreading decades old mechanics. But there's absolutely nothing like the Prime series.
We've suffered in waiting 18 years for it. This game has to sell well. Otherwise we may never get another one.
It’s a huge dud, just admit it bro. Sounds like a generic, AI-created Metroid. It’s gonna sink like a rock and with the reviews it‘s getting, it deserves to.
People who care about review scores have baby brains
@RUclipsChannel-iq5to The reviews are mostly positive I don’t know what you are talking about 😂
@RUclipsChannel-iq5to It is okay not to like the game and criticize it but say it is AI-created is pure hyperbole.
I'm getting "a 90% game dragged down by some experimental decisions," which is still very encouraging! Though it might have us all wishing there was more priority given to making some more areas and connecting them all.
Why do people act like an 8 score is a bad thing?
It's not a perfect score but it's pretty solid!
After waiting so many years, a slightly above average game is not what we wanted.
It's annoying that the things that tanked the score were the things that metroid fans instantly knew were bad ideas
When the previous games in the trilogy all scored 90+, an 8 is definitely a downgrade comparatively.
Exactly, but I understand the frustration when you consider that the Prime trilogy was consistently in the 9/10-range. It’s going from very good games to a good game, and for some, that makes it a bad game
Because an IGN 8 is a real world 6
Is there a rapid fire attachment for the cannon? Would be nice.
15h, so for me 40h
Logan plant is one of the few reviewers at ign I respect.
What is the name of the song at the beginning and the end??
Looks more a 9 to me.. that shocking looking desert area acts to highlight how stunning the other areas are.
You might just be a delusional Nintendo fanboy troll.
@Steven_Doudthe two things that potentially knock the score down, aren't that bad. A point for each seems harsh to me.
Either ure 12 or a fanboy...
are those your wooden toys in your profile pic or your child's? either way you should really play the first couple games before you're tricked into buying this steaming pile
80 dollers for 15 hours is wild.
spell much?
Nintendo tax scam wild
It's not 80 dollars
@rohlenschlagerthe switch 2 edition is
It's 60 on switch and 70 on switch 2. If you are smart you can find a deal like best buy does 10 dollars off so I got it for 60 for switch 2 version.
Logan reviews are always top-shelf! Keep our boy reviewing!
I knew that this would be a tougher crowd these days, especially since the shooting genre is not as big like it used to be in general. But I’ll take it, I’m looking forward to it. The game went through a lot of shake ups, so I’m just glad it’s brought back to life and hopefully it remains for the future.
It's not a shooting genre, and shooters are a big as ever with Battlefield, CoD and Fortnite still crazy popular. I think the issue is these modern journalist approaching it like a shooter and not like the adventure/Metroidvania game that it is.
This is exactly what is expected the review to sound like and yet I’m still very disappointed
Dude, it’s below 80 on metacritic, it’s a failure
@Y@RUclipsChannel-iq5tohave you read the reviews tho? Because what people are droping the score for truly shouldn’t drop the score, and that’s the true issue here. If we want to go off metacritic, there is no reason why metriod prime on the GameCube has a 97 but metriod prime remaster gets a 94 ? When clearly prime remaster was better in every way by a long shot, this is my point there is no consistency and this ruins the perception of a game to new audiences…
@RUclipsChannel-iq5toyou’re really under every comment trying your hardest to convince people that the game sucks when its clearly a fun title, grow up lol
@duppypixelsPretty sure he's just rage baiting.
@RUclipsChannel-iq5toit actually a 81
Where winds meet was a 6. Nuts!
12:55 I’m a little worried about it only being 15 hours. I know it’ll stretch with 100% completion, but even if that gives me another 10 hours (which is being generous), that’s still an under 30 hour game for $70.
@JoeyFigueroa83 prime 1 is only a 6-10 hour game depending on how lost you get
@brickingle3984why are we comparing to prime one. Compare it to modern games like silksong and expedition 33 where they last 50+ hours
@Sakameswhy would you compare expedition33, a heavily story driven game with vastly more cutscenes than a prime game? You gotta be trolling lol
That's 25 hours of entertainment for 70 dollars, if you think about it that way it's not bad at all. A 2 hour movie costs you about 30.
Just 15 hours? that’s very disappointing, it’s not 2002 or 2007 anymore 😓 expected more
After 89 years I expected at least 20 hrs.
15 hours is a good run time for a metroid game
@GuyCostigan no it's not and i'm an oldschool Metroid fan, that is NOTHING! Prime 4 has been in development for how many years? And look what Nintendo achieved with Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom in terms of scope, 100s of hours of gameplay.. this game we will pay $70 and just breeze on through it in no time... I'm disappointed, it should of had much more vast environments...
@artisan_jamesyou have obviously never played a Metroid before.
@joshakujuobi4795 I started out with Metroid on the NES and Super Metroid is one of my favorite games of all time...
is that a 4 Prime Metroids? (title card)
I feel like games that get an 8 at this point are reviewers being too scared to go lower for the back lash 🤣
💯💯💯
Honestly they should have made another 3rd person Metroid game instead of Prime 4. Other M gets a really bad rap, but no one had a problem with its perspective and 3rd person gameplay. All of Other M's problems were with other things. The 3rd person perspective in Other M was perfect, it was the 2D gameplay of Super Metroid, but given a 3rd dimension, a natural extension of the classic formula. They need to revisit that formula again, but this time do it right! It can be done, and MercurySteam are the best ones to do it. Before they made Metroid Dread and Return of Samus, they made 3D games like Castlevania Lords of Shadow. They can do it.
Both Prime and 3rd Person Metroid games can exist. Prime is usually handled by Retro Studios, so RS can work on the Prime series while other studios like MercurySteam can work on the non-Prime titles.
I did like Other M (despite plot/characterization/non-gameplay stuff), but I really think it should've been a Wii-Remote + Nunchuk controlled game instead of the single remote approach we got since analog sticks are better than D-Pads for 3D games. Other than that, I enjoyed the game for what it was.
Other M had terrible gameplay all around
@TBL-AMELIA But the 3rd person perspective was good.
@EnigmaHoodmaybe?
But are there underwater levels???
Why these maps look like scorn
Great reviewer. Actually kept me engaged the whole time
That's the framerate and texture resolution on the Switch 2 version of the game...?
gonna buy the switch 1 version and maybe along the road , get a switch 2 and shell out the $9.99 upgrade for it, i still have no reason to get the switch 2, but trust me, if BAYONETTA 4 is announced as a switch 2 exclusive, then my opinion will change quick.
Please, youll be crying and complaining about that too.
dont, dont buy the switch 1 version and dont buy a switch 2
Yeah, could see the problems with this game way before the lame NPCs
So if they did less (no motor cycle section), the score woule have been higher?
4th Metroid Prime where there is no Speed Booster :( such a missed opportunity yet again
