    8:48 Poor Bradley indeed! I misjudged that layline badly and had to turn down, gybe, head back up, and tack again to make that mark.

    Cool to see you around my home town. Lived in New Orleans but I spent every summer in Waveland, MS which is about 30-45 minutes west of there. The three summers after hurricane Katrina I went to sailing camp and loved sailing flying Scotsman and 420’s. Live in FL now and I want to get back in to it. So much fun

    Hey Joe, me and a friend of mine booked our vacation for wildwind this summer ( we both have quite some sailing experience but not with the boat models you have there) and were wondering how long the process is of allowing us to take the boat out by ourselves. If it's just a quick check of ability/rundown of the boat or a mandatory amount of lessons?

    • @JoyriderTV
      @JoyriderTV 4 месяца назад

      If you have experience you should be able to take out a boat straight away without instruction - starting with the more basic boats and then work your way up through the fleet

  • @robkurze
    @robkurze Месяц назад

    Hey Joe,
    Better late than never with my feedback! I noticed that your pace seemed a bit slower during the first downwind leg (Timestamp 9:35). I noticed the telltales on the backside of your mainsail weren't flying straight backward.
    However, during your second downwind leg (Timestamp 26:47), your pace seemed faster than the boat behind you.
    This isn't a criticism, but rather a shared observation. Of course, this isn't about a basic discussion of sail positions on a broad reach but rather about optimizing performance during a race.
    I'm also trying to figure out the perfect tension in my mainsail to suit the course and wind strength during downwind legs. It's challenging for me to make the right adjustments.
    Perhaps you could discuss this topic in your livestream or share your experiences in another way.
    Best Winds,
    Robert

    • @JoyriderTV
      @JoyriderTV Месяц назад

      Thanks for that Robert.
      Yes, I'll give this some thought and talk about it in this week's Q+A.
      Cheers

    • @JoyriderTV
      @JoyriderTV Месяц назад

      Maybe, could you make your question more specific - is it just downwind that you're referring to?

    • @robkurze
      @robkurze Месяц назад

      @@JoyriderTV Yes, the question is how I can improve my performance on a downwind leg.
      I steer to maintain a 90° angle with the apparent wind, adjusting my course to either bear down and gain speed on a deeper course or head up to pick up speed. The main sheet tension isn't defined at this point, so I rely on my intuition and keep it loose.
      Should I sheet out until the telltales fly in the correct direction, or how do you manage the sheet tension in these situations?
