    Great review video. I really like it. I see a lot of questions talked about the switches compare with the NIZ, and we want to say the ABKO does use the same switches as NIZ.
    And ABKO is manufactured by NIZ. And the v2 version in the video is a waterproof version, so the workmanship of the case is very high, and it will be very difficult for users to disassemble, but it also shows that the quality is good. I hope everyone likes ABKO and NIZ.

      Hi, I have a question about NiZ EC switches, did NiZ bought over the right to Noppoo EC switches at some point? I've done some searching online and I found there is a very apparent cut off point between the introduction of two brand's EC switches (i.e: NiZ EC appears after Noppoo EC, both switches never appear on keyboard in the same time period, & that Noppoo EC no longer exist nowadays AFAIK), which lead me to speculate that this is the case, is this true?

    • @leoguo4762
      @leoguo4762 4 года назад +7

      @@GlennL42 Haha, you are very careful. In fact, when PLUM was making mechanical keyboard, it was already developing EC switch. Just in time, noppoo needed to make a static capacitance keyboard, so in fact, the static capacitance version and switch of noppoo are all made by NIZ. Although noppoo is no longer available, it's still a great keyboard.

    Korean here. The commercial mech market in Korea is really interesting. Instead of the western keyboard market where manufacturers seem to focus more on making sub $100 keyboards with minimal build, cherry switches and decent caps, the korean mech industry seems to focus more on innovative switches and gimmicks or premium build quality and slap the lowest price they could.
    This abko was one of the best commercial boards I have tried period. I have used countless boards and for a stock board, this is outstanding. There is another korean board that has optical switches called the "CJ Entus" that come with clickbar switches. Unlike Kailh clickbar switches, these switches come in a medium tactility which is comparable to NOS Pine Alps SKCM White. I highly recommend you try them out.

    • @bawla
      @bawla 2 года назад

      Would you still recommend that CJ Entus keyboard in 2022? The optoelectric clickbar switches seem interesting.

    I purchased this keyboard thanks to your review. I like it very much. Great typing feel and sound, much better experience than my Cherry MX Blues. It's not just some knockoff keyboard, you can tell they put some real engineering into it. If you're interested, just buy it from Amazon and return it if you don't like it. The main downside for keyboard is that it's Korean-focused - I can't find the configuration software on their website since it's all in Korean and I don't have a disc drive so I can't install it from the included disc. Anyways I would probably stick with Cherry profile if I were to replace the keycaps, since there is some wobble.

    They do feel nice without being too noisy, but this keyboard doesn't have real switches.
    It's a membrane keyboard with a spring behind each membrane covered key.
    I took it apart because one of my keys stopped working consistently.
    That's one of reasons why they're so quiet.
    The plastic shell is also brittle-there were signs of cracks on mine (and will have more if you try to take apart as the top and bottom are held by just friction and frame clips).

    • @ethur10n
      @ethur10n Год назад

      While ABKO does sell membrane keyboards, this one in particular is NOT a membrane keyboard as the internals are similar to Topre. It uses a capacitive PCB and uses a spring under the switches as the capacitive element. The only significant difference between NIZ/ABKO EC switches and Topre is the keycap mount.

    If you want some interesting keyboards to review that have that have clone switches, Redragon has a few ones with Cherry MX Blue and Brown clones. While some are advertised as having replaceable switches (they even include four spare switches in some of them), they have very specific circuitry that doesn't work with normal Cherry MX switches or even the clone switches that they use!

      I agree with this that they're not insanely smooth out of the box (though I'm sure lubing would help). However I don't notice it at all when typing at speed or while gaming like I can with scratchy linears. The feeling is overall great though and it's nice to type on such a soft keyboard.

    The secondary characters that are below the alphabets on the keycaps are all Korean alphabet characters.
    The right alt (한영) key toggles between the Korean and QWERTY layers and most keyboards in Korea use right alt to toggle.
    한 is for 한글 which is Korean
    영 is for 영어 which is English in Korean

      I don't know much about Korean, but it appears that all the vowels are on the right and all the consonants are on the left. I wonder how that affects usability/ergonomics?

    • @cravasity
      @cravasity 4 года назад +13

      @@Yobleck That divide between the vowels and consonants works really well. A combination of 2 to 4 vowels and consonants are used to make one letter and one vowel MUST be used with the consonants in this combination (a letter consisting of only vowels or only consonants does not exist). So it results in constant left - right alternation keystrokes and, at least IMO, it's quite efficient.
      As for ergonomics, from my experience, I don't think it is too different from typing English since Korean pretty much uses the same keys on the keyboard but in a different order. Other than the fact that Korean typing never calls for the use of Caps lock, pretty much identical. (I'm using a 60% board with keycaps that only have English legends and I don't notice any ergonomic benefit/gain from switching between the two languages)
      Hope this answers your question.

      The rightmost modifier 한자 is alteration between chinese characters(traditional) and Korean. Windows default ANSI 101 setting for Korean keyboard input is RAlt as 한영 and RCtrl as 한자. Sometimes they can be used as seperated kecodes(Windows support it). So full keysets for Korean is actually ANSI-106(101+3+한영,한자).
      Although Korean letters are completely phonogram, but there are several instances to use Chinese characters. E.G. Korean word 정의 has 14 different homonographs, so sometimes Koreans write down its original chinese character to clarify which meaning they intend to use.

      I have 2 of these topre clone keyboards in both colors and I love them but saying that it's better than topre has to just be Chyosran being a contrarian. Topre clones are really bad and feel super cheap compared to the real thing. After using these NiZ keyboards for a few days and then switching back to topre, you will literally be in heaven. I'm not saying the NiZ keyboards are bad, they are just nowhere near the experience of topre and if you want to get an opinion on topre, don't try these. I'm not sure about the variable weight topre realforce keyboard that chyosran has though. I have a realforce 87U 55g and a leopold fc980c 45G and I way prefer the sound and feel of the FC980C. The FC980C sounds more deep and less clacky like realforce topre boards. I also think it's a bit stupid how Chyosran does his comparisons to topre on the variable switch realforce of all things, and the type heaven which is pretty bad as well.

    I honestly don't really see where the extra amount of money is going. I mean, I get that the companies need to make money and all, but I feel like this is still a bit too much for what is essentially a rubber dome board - albeit, a special one with much-better-than-average build quality. I don't think it's realistically worth more than $80 in my opinion, though some may disagree.

    • @GalileoAV
      @GalileoAV 4 года назад

      I completely agree. Anything modern over the $100 mark I expect to back up with some features beyond good switches and build quality. This one admittedly is pretty well designed, but feels a bit overpriced for just being a really good rubber dome board.

    • @KindOldRaven
      @KindOldRaven 4 года назад +3

      Well there's no rubber dome keyboards like this out there, besides the twice as expensive Topres or the almost identical (bit slightly more stylish imho) NIZ keyboards, so unless you've tried one it's probably not easy to compare. EC keyboards vs membrane keyboards (the 'standard' rubber dome boards) are quite different. So while I agree I'd rather have these things cost around 80 bucks, there's also really no reason besides lacking RGB while many MX TKL boards are just as expensive or even more expensive than this one.

      I think the price comes from obscurity, absence of a wide market for that sort of stuff, and the fact, that those who bought their product would not buy it again any time soon because it is made to last. At least nothing can substitute some of the unique, arguably priceless, features of new wireless HHKB, for instance its layout and easely replacable batteries, and, as I believe, appliance of premium material and leading technologies. Can not see what I can by instead of it, but would like to spend less money, of caurse. It would be great to see perfect chinese clone of HHKB, and see how it would stand against its original.

    • @KindOldRaven
      @KindOldRaven 4 года назад

      @@АлексейМельников-д9з I agree with almost everything you said right there. But some p art of me is actually pleased that some of the clones (like NiZ) started out as 'poor man's' Topre imitations but have somewhat changed into their own thing. If they keep improving they're simply going to be a 'different' EC-keyboard supplier instead of 'just clones' and I think that's a good thing in the end. Most people will still prefer Topre over NiZ for instance, but there's a small group that genuinely prefer NiZ due to standard programmability, different layouts and the different switch feel. I don't think there's anything truly like HHKB though. At least I've not seen any quality clones yet.
