me too it's bittersweet because it's an awesome moment but you feel uneasy because you know it's going to end and you try to soak in everything that you almost don't enjoy it
I never communicated with David Bowie. I never met him. But his music touched my soul, as it has touched so many others. RIP, my Starman. Thank you for the music. Thank you for being you.
I think this was the only time I've cried in a movie theater and it's not even a sad scene. I saw this movie with my brothers a couple of days after David Bowie's death, although I don't consider myself a die-hard fan of him either. I don't know, I just liked his music and I was really enjoying the movie, I've always liked space stories; or I was just enjoying going to the movies with my brothers again after so long. The truth is I couldn't say why that affected me so much, maybe it was that I simply didn't expect to hear this damn song at that moment. Lately I miss them, I see them less and less. Maybe I'll call them tomorrow
SparkStop All my friends are great lads and but before we all go own ways I'm gonna make the last moment a great moment that will let them remember the great times we had.
This film touched me so much, I cried a lot, and still don't know why, maybe because is the space so beautiful that it makes me cry... especially the part of this song.. thank you David
December 31st, 1999. The 1980's, the greatest decade in history, is coming to an end. Me and my best friends from school, college and university have gathered together to celebrate the past ten years. Starman was the only song we listened to that night, because it was the only one that really made us believe that we could achieve our goals and make our dreams come true. Thank you Mr Bowie, your music has truly been the soundtrack of my life, and it will continue to be so for many years to come.
The funny thing is, you could have the entire Martian soundtrack with just Bowie songs. It's true. Space Oddity Life On Mars? Starman Hallo Spaceboy Moonage Daydream Ashes to Ashes And the list can go on
I was already thinking this was my favourite film of the year, then this song started playing and immediately propelled it to my top 10 all time favourite films. Absolutely incredible.
Every time I feel depressed, sick, lonely or even when I am stressed, I listen to this song and my mood immedeatly changes as my head dances. Such a happy song.
I heard this on a TV spot for the DVD/Blu-ray release and was like I have to find this song. I knew it was David Bowie. I don't know why I missed this song when watching the movie on the big screen.
Dendalion Lavendar - I was just listening to "Changes" in the car today and then happened to watch the movie tonight. I had no idea Starman was in it - PERFECT! Loved it! What an awesome song and placement in this movie was superb! Love David Bowie; what a HUGE talent he was!

Did anyone else read the book? Everyone is talking about how they were surprised that they used this song, but in the book they say it's his theme song.

Did you read the book? He calls it his theme song.
oh yeah, sorry. i forgot.

But, I guess, it must be in anglophile Johanssen files, not in Lewis' :)

I heard he brought out a book later, called 1.000 ways to cook potato.

+fjmrp I suggest you to read the book, it's even better and it has more detail. Even more sarcasm than in the movie! :D

I love David Bowie 'Starman'. Especially in The Martian. It's just such a happy song and really suites the film.

Starman
David Bowie
Didn't know what time it was and the lights were low
I leaned back on my radio
Some cat was layin' down some get it on rock 'n' roll, he said
Then the loud sound did seem to fade
Came back like a slow voice on a wave of phase haze
That weren't no D.J. that was hazy cosmic jive
There's a starman waiting in the sky
He'd like to come and meet us
But he thinks he'd blow our minds
There's a starman waiting in the sky
He's told us not to blow it
Cause he knows it's all worthwhile
He told me:
Let the children lose it
Let the children use it
Let all the children boogie
I had to phone someone so I picked on you
Hey, that's far out so you heard him too
Switch on the TV we may pick him up on channel two
Look out your window I can see his light
If we can sparkle he may land tonight
Don't tell your poppa or he'll get us locked up in fright
There's a starman waiting in the sky
He'd like to come and meet us
But he thinks he'd blow our minds
There's a starman waiting in the sky
He's told us not to blow it
Cause he knows it's all worthwhile
He told me:
Let the children lose it
Let the children use it
Let all the children boogie
There's a starman waiting in the sky
He'd like to come and meet us
But he thinks he'd blow our minds
There's a starman waiting in the sky
He's told us not to blow it
Cause he knows it's all worthwhile
He told me:
Let the children lose it
Let the children use it
Let all the children boogie
