Thanks for watching! I am not sure where you could find one. I have found a couple at big nurseries where the plants are just scattered all over the place is disarray. In small pots 1 gallon, but been in that pot for many years. They don’t have to look nice when you find them… just alive! I wish you luck. Burke
I bought my home almost 3 years ago and I have a lot of sago palms that are well over grown I do my best to keep them looking good but not sure how to get rid of all the babies from them. What would you recommend to do first.
Well, if your house has a lot of sagos then you will always have a supply of pups. I would start by removing any pups that do not enhance the way you want your plants to look. You could always donate the larger pups to neighbors who might want to start growing one or two. You will probably do pup removal every couple years. Thanks for watching and hope to hear from you again. Burke
Is there a sure way to know whether a pup is a male plant or a female plant? I have two male sagos which have blossomed, so I know they are males--will all of their pups be only males? I have a female sago that has blossomed many times. Will her pups be both male and females, and how can I tell the difference between them? Thanks for your great videos!
Hello Magnus, what a great question… I will try and keep the answer simple. If you happen to know the sex of your Sago then all of its pups will have that same sex. If the female has flowered and was pollinated, then those seeds can be propagated. The sex of those seeds will not be known for many many years (15-20 maybe never). Thank you for watching and really a good question. Burke
I've seen a bunch of your videos where you're doing sago maintenance, but do you ever feed them? Or fertilize them? That's what I'm struggling on right now. They get plenty of water, and mine are still extremely slow to grow. Both are scortched right now.
Hello Nye, I was going to put together a long message for you but am instead going to direct you to this web site: top5best.com I think this is put together well and am sure you can purchase one of the fertilizers. Keep in mind that your sago is never going to be a fast growing plant, healthy yes but fast growing sagos don’t exist. That is why I appreciate a large sago… so many years are Required to grow a nice specimen. They will become acclimated to the Sun after a number of years. I have seen some of my favorite sagos in Las Vegas and the heat there is crazy!! Thank you again for watching and I hope to hear from you again (maybe an update on your sago!) Burke
My pups have have become out of control and to close together at the base. Can I cut between them ? the pups almost look like they've grown together there so crowded I will probably need to saw between them then pull out of the ground to transplant if I can. My second question is can the sprouts coming out of the side of the Sago PALM be transplanted. Thanks for your videos.
Hey Terry, those pups can get so close / squeezed together at the base. You might want to use a fat chisel and hammer to get started. Once you get the first one removed the one next to it will pop apart much easier with the chisel or large screwdriver. It is kind of fun once you get going. The pups that grow on the sides of the trunk are usually small and harder to keep alive. You might consider plucking and tossing those or take on the challenge of growing it. Thanks for watching and hope to hear how your pup extraction goes👍 Burke
Thank you Sky! I think the Sago does best in partial sun or is at least easier to care for…. Maybe you should have been my landscaper 🙂. Take care, Burke
I really love your bonsai sago palm.
Where would I go to get one?

My pups that a broke from the base are growing very good, no problem.
If you get very hot temperatures why don’t you plant a tree near the sago that give some shade? Or another palmierend that gives shade.

Yes, Sky flower a nice shade tree would lower the temperature 🌡️.
I just planted a jacaranda tree for some much-needed shade 🏝️
