The third stage of the 2023 Dakar Rally was a dramatic one. An extreme weather event caused local flooding and absolute chaos for the competitors.

So badass!!!
It needed a quick undercarriage wash.
🔥💪Iveco Power Star 💪🔥
That is pure adrenaline runing throught their veins!
OMG!!!😳😳💪💪💪👍
These guys should NOT get time penalties or even have time lost put against their stage times!
This is the Sportsmanship and in the real Spirit of the Game
I think the officials are actually looking at adding time to the truck crews
Usually get time back for stopping to help out other competitors
Shut up
The time is given back to them. Its a great system in the Dakar.
@@jody024 could you explain this system?
This was the path my dad had to take to school as kid but uphill both ways.

That should be the spirit of everything.

Watching the Race Trucks, being the Support Trucks they started out as makes me feel so happy.
Good work all.
You clearly don't even know the categories
@@estelomboI honestly don’t can’t you explain
@@oak8728 I think in the beginning the big trucks weren’t really a race class they were just there to help.
Kids, this is why the #1 rule is don’t drive through flood water.
The power in those trucks is ridiculous 🤪👍🏻🔥🔥🔥
I want one
Good to see an actual truck driver who knows how to recover another vehicle!!
would have been better just to use a winch would have taken half the time
Why wouldn't any of these guys know how to recover a vehicle lol? It's not terribly difficult. They are pros you're an idiot on RUclips. Armchair quarterback
recovery in sand is very tricky and you cant just drive up, hook up and pull. You actually use the truck to flatten the sand a little bit and then you get a running yank to get both rolling. Learned the hard way.

That is terrifying. Spirit of Dakar.

GOOD LAWRD!!!! mad props to the big rigs helping these little dudes out!!!
Now that's a obstacle. Dakar is an awesome torcher test. Driver and machine. Could not ask for more

Those trucks are so badass so capable
Love the sportsmanship. Shouldn't laugh but the dude getting frustrated and throwing sand did make me giggle.
Tons of respect to those truckers and do appreciate the sportsmanship.
This is the definition of having all the gear but no idea.

3:42 awesome shot
nothing like a good snatch to get through a wet spot.

And as our earth comes out of an ice age, accelerating to equilibrium, a level of homeostasis that present humans can only hypothesize, deserts will become green again, trees will become forests, cities will become history. But we will survive.
This is why!
Wow, really crazy weather. But that's desert living for you, pray for rain and get whole lot at once that creates chaos. Nice to see teams helping each other out though.
"If it's flooded, forget it."
Had to look twice like "is that Alonso...?"

The guys in the buggies didn't go full send enough and got stuck.
Rip ken block 🕊 Rest In ✌️
Honestly I feel like they all kinda suck at this, in so cal we have flash floods in super sandy washes just like that and I used drive my super duty though it, pulling everyone out quicker than all that drama lol
That's actually pretty fck cool!
Ils sont très fort et bien courageux tous ces pilotes.
A+ recovery
Redbull Became Red Bal😀💫
That was the slowest recovery I've ever seen
Welcome to Namibia, Land of the brave
Welcome to Saudi arabia were tough men are made from tough enviroment
Awesome but Damm that took alot of time
Where is Matts Off-Road Recovery team when you need them?!
My big Ole 4x4 would go through there like no thing. Matter a fact that every week for me crossing rivers in Colorado.
The rescuer doesn’t do up his helmet and almost loses the helmet? Surely doing your helmet up is basic safety rules.
who says there is no water in the desert !
I know what vehicle I would choose for this rally.
The helicopter. Most safe and the best view lol.
Not the safest at all.
KAMAZ would be handy right now...
This is chaos
Mother nature always wins.
A little stream, big deal. This little obstacle shows who is prepared and who isn't. These vehicles are more than capable for this stuff.
Tallented drives in a difficult situation, and they suck at towing
Would'nt a good ol' winch located on either of the cars be more effective than spinning in the sand?
jaja el iveco - me voy mi planeta me necesita
Sorry to say. But is the support up to standard, When I look at this, I feel like they needed some basic traing fitst.
its raining.... EXTREME WEATHER!!!! its windy... EXTREME WEATHER!!!! the sun is shinning... EXTREME WEATHER!!!! give me a break
Are kinetic ropes too large and bulky for these guys to carry? Probably don't normally ever need something like that right?
How to push the AGENDA 101
Good sportsmanship - but, honestly, they needed quite a few attempts to pull those out due to the loose ropes. They should really train that before....
Now they can have a mud bowl
Here's where you see these doggos are meant for high speed and probably don't have anything resembling a low range haha. Cool machines nonetheless, a shame the videos are so comically short, like, seriously?? *just four minutes*
Off road experts😳😝
Doesn't red bull give you wings?
The rain has created dakaos
A river running through the desert…. Wtf 😂
Are they not allowed to use maxtraxs?
👍👍
Why didn't they use the bridge?
Number one trick in pulling out vehicles is never do it in reverse...
No . number one rule is pull your head out your butt hole before pulling
Where do I apply?
Not a winch in sight.
Такое ощущение, что им вчера только права всем выдали )
They should just race thos big support trucks.
wow
These guys could do with lessons from any farmer who would have got the car out in less than half the time and with a vehicle that cost £1m less than the support truck.
Были бы наши парни ,на ходу бы выдернули не останавливаясь.
As if the Dakar Rally wasn't tough enough...
Superb to see all the Teams helping each other out of serious trouble.
M 🦘🏏😎
The guys in the big trucks define the word "Sportsmanship", it is awesome to see racers helping each other.
It's why i really like dakar, the essence of dakar is yes, racing and fastest stage
But it's indoctrinated into the sport when you see others stuck or in a bad position, you help
I really like the sportsmanship in dakar, like the only race series where you get rewarded for helping your competitor
Pretty hardcore conditions when cars built for the desert get bogged and trucks made for the desert have a hard time pulling them out. That last bit when the truck clears the stream tho... like a boss!
Hate to break it to you but arabs gonna have this kind of weather from now on. It’s the prophecy.
@@Tokopilbiru What prophecy is that?

They even get some time back if they help other drivers! Not only encouraging sportsmanship, but giving them a reward as well!

@@Gecko88 they'll still knock your head clean off your pretty little shoulders all the same.
@@Gecko88 Get with the "experienced guys who know what they're talking about" minecraft kid.
Steel ropes are limited in the damage they'll cause because they have extremely low elasticity. A wet blanket over a steel rope renders it pretty safe. Not so for dynamic synthetics - They store, and can release massive energy, which is why they're used.
@@BericBuildsMy dad use to haul cars and that is about the only thing I ever thought about on calls with him.
I swear it’s about the only important rule to towing, Besides making sure the car is secured of course.
I should be making money hauling cars but he gave up that business to be just as broke. But in a semi instead😂
@@Gecko88 It's not really the ropes that do the damage or are even the thing to break, it's the brackets they are attached to that fail and get launched like a catapult.
This is why I love Snowrunner and it's older siblings. Fighting trough mud, going trough rivers, lovely challenge.
Exactly what I thought about. I just got home from work so when I wake up I'm gonna spin some tires around some snow.
we don't have rivera in saudi , it is just water because if the heavy rain
Cool stuff like this happens in the most unique, and perhaps the most iconic rallying event of the year and we can't get proper coverage of it. Meanwhile, the equipment that allows WRC promoters to produce live coverage of rallies sits idle in the hangars. It's such a shame! Frustrating even!
Don't get me wrong, love that you guys made even these short videos available.
It is a logistical nightmare, you have to remember these stages are 400km and more some days whereas a typical WRC stage is going to be between 10km and 30km - then you’d have to factor in sending all those images/data back to the TV truck and then beamed via satellite to each TV station that covers the event, the costs escalate quite rapidly! But aye, I too long for more coverage, maybe one day!
Yeah.. its a pain to search for all the coverage/material.... I always feel like I cannot get the full picture and miss a ton of stuff
try SBS On Demand
Starlink fixes this all very soon.
Not to mention, who tf has 5+ hours watching the entire race every day?? The coverage will never be enough for those who love this rally, but it's good enough for the time being.
Flash floods are no joke! I got caught in a similar situation last fall in the Utah desert with some friends... the threat of being swept away is real.
i agree especially in a dakar stage there are times where they are totally alone so it could've gotten worse if they left them behind
Scary how in the minutes this took place
You can clearly see the water eating at the "river bank" it gets wide so fast that it's scary to think ab getting stuck like that in the middle
Bravo Loprais !
They needed Matt’s Off-road Recovery😉
I feel like a winch would have really been standard equipment on these trucks.
I was looking... no winch?
Wow!
I was thinking the same. It's not like the truck doesn't weigh 5 tons already. Surely, a little more weight wouldn't make any difference

@@RedBullRally La Nina, three years in a row: climate scientist outlines what we can expect. The Bureau of Meteorology has declared another La Nina is underway. This means Australia's east coast will likely endure yet another wet, and relatively cool, spring and summer. It's the third La Nina event in a row. El Niño and La Niña are climate patterns in the Pacific Ocean that can affect weather worldwide.
People have died in way less water flow than that. I would definitely not be sitting in the race car like that. Those guys are nuts. The guy who just runs across it and falls in the deep spot, damn dude. I'm scared to be in the sand washes in the desert around my house in Arizona when it barely rains. Heard too many horror stories from all the old timer offroad racers. I can't believe they both got out of this.
That's why you are here behind the keyboard typing comments, and they are out there trying to become actual champions.
The best thing they could have done is stayed with the vehicle.... It was stuck and stable... At least stay put until absolutely no other choice but to risk leaving the safety of your vehicle. Don't move until a crew can get there and help you in the swift waters. If you get swept up with help there they can send help after you. You get swept up while they're not there then you're on your own.
@@medix1203 Don't forget, it's a race, not just an afternoon fooling about. They have the mindset of trying to get out as quickly as possible, sometimes safety and rational thinking takes a back seat then, for better or worse.
Not to mention, it's not a given that other competitors will help you, they are not obligated to. And non-competitors aren't allowed to touch your car, unless you forfeit the race and give up entirely.
@@DrTheRich I get that it's a race but when shit like this occurs, then it's no longer a race it's a rescue live saving mission. They were best to just stay right where they were until help arrived.... But I guess being a Firefighter/ medic I have NO CLUE about swift water rescue right?
@@medix1203 Easy for you to claim behind the keyboard. What it should have been, and what it actually was in the situation ar two different things. Also these guys live for the thrill of these rough moments on the edge, of life or death. Not everyone understands that, or would do the same, that's ok, but don't project your believes on others.
You probably have a clue about swift water rescues, they have no clue, and you weren't there. Btw there is a firefighter team in the race with a truck, a pity they weren't there at that time.
People die during Dakar rallies, because it's an extreme sport, just like cliff jumping, skydiving, or rock climbing. Despite all modern safety rules, equipment, precautions and experience. That danger is part of the appeal for people who join. It's not for everyone, or rather, it's not for most people.
This is why the Dakar needs to allow Trophy Trucks.
Why? Cause it's stupid?
Are they not?
And why don't they allow trophy trucks in Dakar?
It's a different spec vehicle, you will find that trophy trucks are too powerful and far too weak to go the whole Dakar.
