I care too much about him as a friend to lead him on only to break his heart later down the line, which ultimately would be worse because it would be getting his hopes up

Pile 3 made so much sense! Wow- I'm still surprised-
He's the loudest in the room while I'm really shy. Sometimes we look at each other, and the most we've talked has been to give me something the teacher told him to (like documents), and it wasn't more than a "hey, this". But just that.
We go the same way home, so, we usually find each other in the same path but don't talk. The tension is there and one of us rushes to not walk together and make things awkward.
