I never thought anyone could play this any better than the man himself Earl Scruggs, until I heard Roy. I don’t how it happens, but Roy plays just about anything better than anybody else. The man was an absolute legend.
@@JohnHicksPicks each person's ear likes a different style. I personally agree I like this version better than scruggs and it's the first change up that makes me like it more. No need to dismiss people's preferences. It's taking nothing away from scruggs saying it either
@@JohnHicksPicks as I said each person is allowed to have any preference they want too. And no I'm not tone deaf either and a comment like that just shows that you only view your own preference as right. You should be happy that people are listening to an iconic bit of music. Because until I found this video I never knew this song existed. Apart from the movies. And that led me down the path of scruggs and his music. Like the man himself said people appreciating his music fills he heart with joy. So how about you just do that and appreciate the fact that because of Roy I become a fan of scruggs and bluegrass
Roy Clark is one of the most unappreciated musical talents in American music ,the man could play any string instrument with the best of then maybe even better.
Nobody could play a banjo and really enjoy doing it as much as Roy Clark did. God gave that man talent and we are lucky enough to enjoy it. Thank you God !!
@@bigswingface5847 Thank you, as a musician myself who has dedicated years of my life to my instruments hearing that about anyone or even when said to me it is genuinely disheartening how easy and quick it is for people to discredit your work and think the only way you could ever do that is if god wants you to
I was typing the first one while listening to the song,,, while the rest was playing I got goosebumps All the way from my head to my feet and it has to be really darn good of picking or song to do that to me!!!!👍👍👍👍❤️😛👊👌
Roy Clark is the consummate musician, a true professional. Regardless of the instrument or piece he played, every note was clean, distinct, and on point. And he made it look so easy because he was having so much fun playing. Truly a once in a lifetime talent. RIP, Mr. Clark.
My grandpa could play anything. When I was about 8, I watched him play the banjo and said wow grandpa, you're the best. And he said thanks kiddo, but I'm no Roy Clark.
I have been a bass player for 50 years I would have loved to jam this with Roy that man can play the shit out of many instruments banjo fiddle guitar he was a Master of them all 🙂
My wife and I and friends attended one of Roy's shows in Branson back in the early 90's. He was magnificent. What a performer. He was also an accomplished airplane pilot. He flew his own plane back and forth between Nashville and Branson. A Cessna 210 I have been told. What a talented man!
Roy could catch it on fire 🔥 😳. The funny thing he physically looked like most the guys in my family lol. When we would have family reunions and everyone brought instruments it looked like a bunch of Roy Clark's playing Bluegrass lol.
I swear this dude is a BEAST on Guitars, Banjos, etc. I would have REALLY loved to see him on Electric Guitar. I've got a feeling he could just about EMBARRASS whomever he wanted to.
People talk about the greatest guitarists of all time ,but Roy Clark never gets mentioned. Just because he was country/western doesnt make him any less talented than Clapton Hendrix or Van halen (certainly more unique). He was also an even better multi-instumentalist than Paul McCartney or Brian Jones but doesnt get credit for that either. Not fair!!!
I know, it really is. I couldn’t find it on youtube then ended up finding it on tik tok. I didn’t want to cut out when he starts playing but I also didn’t want to hear that voice lol. I decided to just let it be.
He's one of the greatest pickers to pick any instrument up and make every one happy happy happy
If it had strings Roy could play it, one of the greatest ever. RIP Roy Clark
He could probably play even without strings

Better than Scruggs though… come on now 😭

I'd put him up against anybody that has ever played the banjo or guitar.
