Had a trainee with me one day and he was trying to back off a street. I could see him literally about to have a panic attack because of the cars waiting. I told him to STOP. He stopped and looked at me. I told him to listen to me. I pointed at all the cars infront and behind him and told him that every car can F*** off. You OWN this street right now. They can either patiently wait for you or turn around and go the other way. Either way, he was getting that truck backed in where it needed to go. I could sense the tension lifted after I told him to stop despite traffic hold up because he knew I didn't give a shit about the traffic. All I cared about was him remaining calm and collective so he didn't have an accident.
My dad was an OTR...my grandpa was an OTR. When I asked them about situations like this, they simply said "Make them stop for you because they won't stop for you."
As a trucker with 20 years experience, my advice is don’t worry about other drivers and what they think. Do your job without being a dick but own the road.
My respect to Truck Drivers now after watching this video increased Massively. I could never park a giant truck into that small dock no matter how hard i tried.
Few things I think should have to be done: 1) Create regulations for companies that use trucks to haul products that forces them to use daycabs instead of sleeper trucks 2) Limit parking for 4-wheelers near dock door so that trucks have enough room to maneuver 3) Make companies create detailed instructions for delivering truck drivers (some do have, some don't), make it their responsibility/obligation. If you are delivering to a place that you have never been to (which is the case for truck drivers, 80-90% of th time), it is obvious that you might end up in a situation like his

FMCSA allows you to drive, even under laden, in an off duty status as long as you are not doing any driving in furtherance of your company. in your situation after you delivered the load and your sole purpose of driving is to find a safe place to park you are allowed to make that move in an off duty status.
I don't know the laws, but I would sure hope you're right! I feel like it'd be very detrimental if truckers had to just stop at random spots along highways and in cities because they couldn't legally continue. It just doesn't make sense.
I wish the United Kingdom DVSA had the same anmount of logic as the U.S DOT, we have to park wherever the time runs out, and we don’t have truck stops, and barely any rest areas, our country does not cater to trucking or the people that provide everything to the economy, it’s horrific.

Yep, American cities in 21th century stuck with 19th century road widths. Our mid 20th century two lane interstates in 21st century are bad enough. You handled it very well Alex!
@@alfaseeds13 It's an apples and oranges comparison. European cities are much older than American cities, so of course city roads in Europe will generally be much narrower. On your way from your Pu yo may have to break your 3 to 3 rule so you can get as far as you can the day before.
Chicago is a pain even in smaller trucks so kudos to you for that one. I drive there daily for my route (class c) and even that can be a pain so I couldn’t imagine doing it with a trailer. People in our city drive like maniacs and I found the best thing to do at stop lights is just block 2 lanes. Kinda sucks for people but most of the intersections are “no turn on red” anyways so you really don’t hold up the traffic and it gives you the room needed to swing the turns. Most guys on my route in semis are in shorter trailers and day cabs so I can imagine it’s quite a bit more difficult doing it with a sleeper and a 53’

In just 2 days, I have managed to obtain a new bi-weekly customer to receive paper rolls. Let's call it phase #1! I look at it this way that's 2 more deliveries a month, my uncle I think would like that. The routiing is North Carolina (yard) -Virginia Shipper -Georgia receiver - Georgia (yard) - bring empty to -N.C. yard 2 day turn around. Hey Alex, should I tell you what I'm sending you for a late birthday present? Maybe I'll leave you guessing?
I get highly stressed just driving a regular car through cities... Pedestrians, one way roads, usually never know where I'm at, narrow streets... Great job, sir... A true pro at work
The company should have had you drop that load at the Joliet yard and a local driver deliver it. Cuz if you got in an accident it’s on you not the company.
That looked nerve racking . Glad that car moved ... Otherwise I think you would of had a bit more trouble . Good on ya for that parallel park . That's something I have yet to try .

Dude, you killed it. Nice job!
You're alright My Guy still have a lot to learn... Keep up the good work 👍
In just 2 days, I have managed to obtain a new bi-weekly customer to receive paper rolls.
Don't ever get stressed out of backing up like that makes it worse. Remain calm and take your time. Stop and take a deep breath.
I get highly stressed just driving a regular car through cities... Pedestrians, one way roads, usually never know where I'm at, narrow streets... Great job, sir... A true pro at work
Alex! I'm riding with you again in my easy chair! This was a really tough one! I'm gonna take a nap when we're done! Bill NYPD Retired
Don't forget your post trip 😆
My building at UPS, we open and close the trailer doors. It’s such a pain in the ass for truck drivers to do it themselves.
Love your videos keep making them I miss the road a lot.
Love watching ur Vids Alex. So Relaxing. Great job Brother
Nice job man
Job well done Alex! Safe travels.
Hey there Alex! Chicago native and local/regional truck driver for the area, you were practicallyin my backyard lol. And cant beat Kasia deli on hubbard ave! Went there plenty of times with the previous company i worked in a 05 Freightliner columbia sleeper 10 spd, and everytime i went it was exactly like that! Impatient people who will risk a collision just to pass lol But very tight dock for sure, definitely took time to learn how to maneuver lol!
Excellent video, thank you for sharing this experience! Keep up the good work!
bro you have some serious backing up skills 👊
Welcome to my homeland Alex! Most people drive like they have no time in the world and they love to speed to red lights! also, you gotta LOVE the traffic!!!
Wow, that sounds like an awesome day. Parallel parking. OmG. Proud of you. I hate it, but accomplished is awesome, too.
