    Getting into scuba diving is pretty easy and you can get qualified all around the world, anywhere there’s a dive centre and deepish water but there is, of course, a test that you have to pass first. Now to put you at ease the test is designed so that 10 yr olds can pass it so don’t stress about it too much, but there are some tips that can help you pass your test and become a better diver faster.
    The course itself has split into four parts; homework, the classroom work, pool work and open water dives. So you’ve got some book reading to do at home so you can get to grips with the theory, you’re tested on that in the classroom to make sure you understand what’s going on. You then practice fundamental skills in the pool and then you repeat those skills in an open water setting. Now I’m obviously not going to give you the answer key to the open water test but there are a few helpful tips and tricks that can help you complete your open water.

    Very informative.
    I do like the way this is agency neutral. A lot of prospective divers think the agency is all important when in fact the most important person is your instructor. A good experienced instructor brings much more to the table than what is written in the manuals.
    Also for the new diver, most agencies now offer the course on line with downloadable manuals, workbooks and streaming videos.
    Be safe, have fun, remember a scuba qualification has to be earned.

    When I took my open water with PADI, I just basically read the whole book from cover to cover. When it came to the written test and review, you could tell who read the book, who skimmed the book, and who didn't read it at all and only relied on the lecture. Because during the review people would say that one "trick question" (as they put it) on the test wasn't covered. But if you read the book it was in there.

    I did not pass my first Open Water, signed up for a course in the Dominican Republic after being referred by a rep. Found out that PADI courses have manuals and exams after I got back to the UK - it was a scam,. and the guy at the rep's desk was apparently nothing to do with the hotel / tour company. Second time was a proper PADI course in Turkey.

    Mark, Shaun, could you guys do a video on the importance of keeping your skills sharp? There are so many times I've seen veteran divers that were really bad on some of their skills.I suppose that it comes from being over confident and thinking they have already done the skills and therefore there is no need to keep practicing. They just dont realize that it is so easy to forget the simplest thing and when a real emergency arises they will be totally caught off guard. Not Good.!

Like i was planning to do the first three courses in new york as i wanted to spend my own money for my courses and new york seems to be a very lively city with many number of jobs for teens. So please can u suggest or give your opinion as to where is the right place for a teen to complete their initial scuba courses along with earning for themselves.

    E-learning or in person costs? Online I think is 195 but what is the booklet cost?

    • @inspirescuba4845
      @inspirescuba4845 3 года назад +2

      Great question! in person costs can vary per shop or instructor. The average cost is around 200-300 in the US. Choosing an in person format is invaluable in that you have an instructor right there to answer questions and ensure comprehension of theory. Hope this helps and you're able to get in the water soon!

    How deep do you go on your open water test

    • @inspirescuba4845
      @inspirescuba4845 3 года назад

      During the course you will make dives in shallow or pool like conditions, followed by open water which is limited to a max of 40 ft where you will re-iterate the skills you worked on in your confined water. Most instructors will take their students to about 15 or 20 ft until they finish the course completely.

    All i will say the whole thing is NOT easy, fun or pleasant. it took me nine months of sleepless nights to complete the course. after the 5 confined water dives and the 4 open water dives i haven't dived since. I hated the whole process but I did because my wife has been diving for years before i met her so i thought it would be nice to join her under water. She thinks diving is the best thing since sliced bread sadly i couldn't agree.

    Literally opens with the statement that the test is easy enough that "a 10-year old can pass it." [Really? Then why the video, mate?] Then goes on to say fairly straight on that you can't read the book in a day and to spend a few WEEKS on the material to pass the test [thought a 10-year-old can pass it?!]. Good information throughout, but if you're struggling in a basic diver course, the opening is very off-putting.
