Being as this is my first El Niño in the sierras my expectations were unknown. Most of my adulthood spent in San Diego, El Niño meant warm winter water and large waves out of the north. 2023 winter was a wild and fun snow year, 2024 at our elevation, (5100’), has mostly been a little too warm to let snow form/stick. I can see the effect of the warm water now in the north and how that’s changed the micro-climate. I guess I got spoiled last year. Looking forward to this weekend’s event.
Governor Gavin Newsom is draining lakes in San Diego cause the dams are “too old”. Millions of gallons of water per DAY for the next decade are going straight to the ocean. He didn’t do a DAM thing to help conserve this water during the drought!
For an El Niño year, has this winter been what you expected?

Yes! Big storms in spurts and sufficient snow what we’d expect with warmer temps but huge storm will heavily boost
