Man you need to do another video about the Covid Stimulus money and show what $4T dollars looks like and how long that takes to pay back paying $1B a month. That would be awesome!

Yes, as my ex-tenant, oblivious to his own role in burning the place down, tried to scare me regarding the new & considerable debt we'll possibly be passing on to our great-grandchildren, as my new tenant's dog chews up the furniture, I could only stare past him incredulously at the still-glowing embers of the ashes of their formerly substantial but now lost inheritance.

This video is great. An excellent representation of the actual math behind all the budget cuts. I will say that every little bit helps, and I follow that philosophy, but this is a little bit too little of a bit. Most people learn in economics that you can't solve financial problems by throwing money at them, and placing new money into the system via stimuli is exactly that.
Great video. I want to see more like this, that explain in Layman's terms just what is going on up in Washington D.C.

Oh, and this video was a great way to put the amounts into perspective. While no one should expect different denominations to be used when budget cuts are announced, it would be nice if politicians would make REAL budget cuts. They tried to make it sound like a big deal. Maybe to them it was, politicians haven't reduced the budget in years.

Paying it off by spending less is actually what I was trying to argue in my first post. You had mentioned cutting military funding and that would fix it according to your post. I was making the observation that this alone would be no where near enough cuts to get us back on track. I completely agree with cutting the amount politicians give to the Lobbyists and their other friends. This is a tragedy to do with other peoples money. But a real fix requires us to look at the role of GOV.

Definitely with you on Ron Paul - you have no idea how much I was pushing everyone I knew to vote for him. But everyone saw him as an unviable candidate.
But I seriously don't think taxcuts work anymore, because if you give taxcuts to companies, they're going to turn around and invest it overseas where they can build factories for cheaper and employ labor cheaper. If you give taxcuts to people in a recession, they're going to spend it on stuff that was made overseas.
    Solution:Smart spending

Thanks for this visual aid to help people understand these numbers.
Another easy thing people can do on the fly to determine what these numbers mean is to chop off an equal amount of 0s from each number eg
    1,000,000,000,000 = 1,000
    17,000,000,000 = 17
If someone owes you $1,000 and in one year they give you $17 that person is either broke or ripping you off. In the case of the US government it's both. =P

Outstanding graphic. Let's see if I understand.
Option A: We could cut more of that discretionary spending. Ask people with ocean-front property to pay for "beach nourishment" projects the Federal government now pays for, for example. But property owners would object.
Option B: We could trim social security and Medicare, but seniors would object and incumbents would oppose significant changes. Besides, the President wants us to increase health care spending not cut it.

The point about understanding a number so large is well illustrated here. Another way to think of a $100M budget cut: Alex Rodriguez makes $33M a year and the Yankees roster in total is making $200M this year.
I think the cuts are going to have be a little deeper than a couple years worth of baseball player salaries, Mr. President.

You raise an excellent point. People are only limited by themselves. Kids could do far better in school if they really wanted to. Personally I think that has a lot to do with teaching kids so many subjects that are very boring and likely have no use for them in their future. I would personally like to see more trades education and apprenticeship rather then Calculus. Couldn't hurt.

I find this really funny. Most people don't really know much about economics(not that you don't) but the fact is that 100 million dollars is a lot of money. People tend to forget about the Money Multiplier and how that the 100 million dollars that went into investment, loans, or spending is actually worth an exponential amount of money. Taking out a 100 million dollars would not have a huge impact on the deficit but it would have a pretty large effect on the economy as a whole.

Right you are! Since this is such a mess they may need to cut 50% but cutting 25% may leave enough to fund essential services. In 2011 we spent $454 billion just to service the debt. Not long ago that was the entire budget. We need a President who can grow income and cut the budget. Not grow the deficit while signing record numbers of Executive orders preparing for imposing nationwide martial law.

(Cont) In other words, flooding the markets with cheap credit caused the boom of the 20's and it came to an abrupt stop when they realized the damage they were doing and attempted to over correct. This is very devastating but continuing the problem would be even more devastating. Ideally they shouldn't create the booms that result in the busts because without any boom there would be no bust.

On that table were about 1,750 penny stacks measuring about 35 stacks wide by 50 stacks long.
The $1.6 trillion healthcare estimate at $160 billion per year would be represented by 400 pennies, or 80 of those 1,750 stacks, or in other words, one row off the end and one row off the side, indiscernibly leaving 34 X 49 stacks.
The $60 trillion in recent worldwide wealth destruction could be well illustrated by wiping ALL of those pennies off of the table onto the floor SIXTEEN times!

Actually that 42.5 pennies was actually from more then the right side, a little of each i think. Not bad so far, its only been 3 months. I would love to see this analogy updated as time goes on. Would be very interesting to watch.
