- How much is the $100 million dollars in budget cuts compared to the federal budget as a whole? This video imagines the budget as $100 in pennies to provide the answer.

Man you need to do another video about the Covid Stimulus money and show what $4T dollars looks like and how long that takes to pay back paying $1B a month. That would be awesome!
Your analogies are outstanding -- I have been pointing more & more people to them so that they can better understand what we are all up against!
Both this and the National Debt Road Trip are extremely well thought out!
Thanks for your efforts to help educate others -- Nothing is More Expensive than a Lack of Knowledge. (ie: Uneducated Voters)
This shows what a "good idea" social "security," medicare, and medicaid were.

Lots of us said: I wish they would have warned us of the problems we faced before the markets collapsed and our retirement nest-egg dropped one-third or more in value.
Your outstanding graphic will hopefully help promote an informed debate over how to deal with the tough issues that lie ahead of us. Well done.
Where did you get all those pennies?
Excellent way to help people visualize and understand. You really make it clear that this whole budget business and cutting spending is a sham to make the sheeple think the feds are doing something. Bravo!!
I'm going to get you arrested for destroying federal property...haha just kidding. Cool video, really puts things in perspective.
Please keep making these. They're fun to watch, informative, and simple. KEEP MAKING THESE!
Nice video, but watch out, it is illegal to damage US money lol
Obama troll
Arne van Rooijen Oh sure.... truth=trolling
Did you pray to your Obama Shrine tonight?
Thanks for making this Video. Its nice to see just how much we are spending over our Budget.

Yes, as my ex-tenant, oblivious to his own role in burning the place down, tried to scare me regarding the new & considerable debt we'll possibly be passing on to our great-grandchildren, as my new tenant's dog chews up the furniture, I could only stare past him incredulously at the still-glowing embers of the ashes of their formerly substantial but now lost inheritance.
Who's afraid of an acorn when the sky has already fallen?
Thanks for the video illustration, it IS revealing.
Great video. From whatever party, no one in politics understands maths properly.
You did a wonderful job of putting into perspective what the montery policy of the US is.
That's great. Perhaps you would consider posting versions of this representation for the previous 5 administration's budgets, so that not only can the viewer conceptualize the actual size of the current budget, but also how and when we have added to our debt over time.
Excellent visualization. Great way to show it like it is.
This is just GREAT. Totally wowed.. Thanks for the visualization. Just terrific..
Excellent video!! Great way to explain something that I don't think many people can truly understand since what we have in our bank accounts would be about 3-atomic particles of one penny!
This video is great. An excellent representation of the actual math behind all the budget cuts. I will say that every little bit helps, and I follow that philosophy, but this is a little bit too little of a bit. Most people learn in economics that you can't solve financial problems by throwing money at them, and placing new money into the system via stimuli is exactly that.
Great video. I want to see more like this, that explain in Layman's terms just what is going on up in Washington D.C.
Thank you, that was very well explained. Simplicity makes a difference!
Fantastic video. Short, simple, and extremely effective. Thank you for making this.
When I saw the jacket hanging on the chair, I knew which way this was going.
One of my teachers showed this to my sophmore english class. We take gov. next year, so none of us knew exactly what Obama had done. Thanks so much for making it simple!
Great work!
Thank you for the work you're doing - and the videos you post!!!
5 Stars!
Very good job, its taken perfectly in context.
I love this Video! I just showed it in a Visual Thinking I am running- thanks for posting it
Oh, and this video was a great way to put the amounts into perspective. While no one should expect different denominations to be used when budget cuts are announced, it would be nice if politicians would make REAL budget cuts. They tried to make it sound like a big deal. Maybe to them it was, politicians haven't reduced the budget in years.
You really have a gift. Please keep up the excellent work.
I remember seeing this exact model on the news, except the news reporters did it.
Bright dude, 1980. Excellent method of explanation. Thr Daily Ceux & a few others picked this up. Cheers.
That is a great visual, thanks for doing this!
Excellent visualization.
Need more math teachers that can conceptualize numbers like this!
I really wish this guy would make a RUclips come back and compare what actually happened to what he predicted in his videos.
You just earned yourself a sub.
Very creative!
Paying it off by spending less is actually what I was trying to argue in my first post. You had mentioned cutting military funding and that would fix it according to your post. I was making the observation that this alone would be no where near enough cuts to get us back on track. I completely agree with cutting the amount politicians give to the Lobbyists and their other friends. This is a tragedy to do with other peoples money. But a real fix requires us to look at the role of GOV.
Wow, if only everyone could understand the scale as easily as you portrayed it. i wonder what an impact that would have on policy making.
P.S. I love your videos. keep up the good work!
Definitely with you on Ron Paul - you have no idea how much I was pushing everyone I knew to vote for him. But everyone saw him as an unviable candidate.
But I seriously don't think taxcuts work anymore, because if you give taxcuts to companies, they're going to turn around and invest it overseas where they can build factories for cheaper and employ labor cheaper. If you give taxcuts to people in a recession, they're going to spend it on stuff that was made overseas.
Solution:Smart spending
I wish they would show videos like this on the TV news. Then maybe people could grasp what trouble we are in for.
Thank you, that is very well explained. Simplicity makes a difference.
Thanks, that puts things into perspective.
Just saw this video on Freedom Watch! Great work, more people need to know about this but they are distracted with Jersey Shore and the Kardashians!
wow.. you certainly didn't miss your calling.. thank you for makin' it simple.. remember the day when things were simple to understand..?
I remember the movie. Better than that, I lived in Los Angeles when there was a county wide "day without a Mexican". All of them stayed home from work, stayed off the freeways, out of the emergency rooms. It was fantastic! The freeways weren't clogged, waiting time in hospital emergency rooms went down to nil, even crime went to almost zero. Wish they'd stay home every day.
great way to scale this down to size!
Thanks for this visual aid to help people understand these numbers.
Another easy thing people can do on the fly to determine what these numbers mean is to chop off an equal amount of 0s from each number eg
1,000,000,000,000 = 1,000
17,000,000,000 = 17
If someone owes you $1,000 and in one year they give you $17 that person is either broke or ripping you off. In the case of the US government it's both. =P
too bad more ppl dont actually think about what politicians say like you do.
Keep up the good work
:D
Im very impressed by this video, I saw a visual example by Glen beck and other t.v. impressions but this, this does it for me lol, it is the simplest of ways to explain to the smartest of people, you know the ones who voted for him... the college and educated ones of society, this will explain to them exactly the "change" we can have "hope" in, or the "change" we lost hope in, amid shame and a new height of political/presidential advantage and mind-game playing with us "common" folks
Outstanding graphic. Let's see if I understand.
Option A: We could cut more of that discretionary spending. Ask people with ocean-front property to pay for "beach nourishment" projects the Federal government now pays for, for example. But property owners would object.
Option B: We could trim social security and Medicare, but seniors would object and incumbents would oppose significant changes. Besides, the President wants us to increase health care spending not cut it.
awsome visualization. thank you
Genius. What a brilliant way to explain it!!!!
The point about understanding a number so large is well illustrated here. Another way to think of a $100M budget cut: Alex Rodriguez makes $33M a year and the Yankees roster in total is making $200M this year.
I think the cuts are going to have be a little deeper than a couple years worth of baseball player salaries, Mr. President.
Good job.You made the point in a interesting way.
Very nicely done.
Great Job on this video!

It's like taking a teaspoon of water out of a tube full of water with the spigot still wide open!!!
Awesome video. Nice job!
EXCELLENT ILLUSTRATION.
You raise an excellent point. People are only limited by themselves. Kids could do far better in school if they really wanted to. Personally I think that has a lot to do with teaching kids so many subjects that are very boring and likely have no use for them in their future. I would personally like to see more trades education and apprenticeship rather then Calculus. Couldn't hurt.
And I would love for you to elaborate more on the last sentence in your comment. Very interesting subject.
I was serious as cancer when I made that comment. I agree 100% with the guy who made this video. It's about time someone opened their eyes.
thanks for sharing this!
Well, what a relief! NOw, I feel better about the Cuts!
"Change we can count on."
Awesome vid---and right on target.
Nicely done! Great visualization of the information. The absurdity of the situation is made very plain. I don't care what party you're in, the kind of fiscal posturing described by this video should worry you. A lot.
Nice visual aid, works really well and your math is right. 100mil from the total is 1/35000 or 1 quarter of 1 of the 8800-some pennies. Gj man :D
Hey, can you update this to show the amount added to the deficit from the corporate tax cut, and the impact of the tariffs?
I think you'll be happy to find out that the ratio of 100 million to 3.5 trillion is not affected by corporate taxes and tariffs.
idiot
Excellent video... People need to be able to visualize the Democrats' stunning spending plans in ways they can easily understand. This does exactly that. Bravo... I wish I could give this video a 10, or a 1000, or how about 787 billion... LOL.
Outstanding!
I find this really funny. Most people don't really know much about economics(not that you don't) but the fact is that 100 million dollars is a lot of money. People tend to forget about the Money Multiplier and how that the 100 million dollars that went into investment, loans, or spending is actually worth an exponential amount of money. Taking out a 100 million dollars would not have a huge impact on the deficit but it would have a pretty large effect on the economy as a whole.
He wasn't bashing him for making cuts, he was showing that what he's actually cutting isn't that much.
Very well said. A pictures is worth 10 to the 4th power words.
Great video. Thank you.
Right you are! Since this is such a mess they may need to cut 50% but cutting 25% may leave enough to fund essential services. In 2011 we spent $454 billion just to service the debt. Not long ago that was the entire budget. We need a President who can grow income and cut the budget. Not grow the deficit while signing record numbers of Executive orders preparing for imposing nationwide martial law.
More recently, the United States was told to cut 500 pennies out of its 8,800+ penny budget budget. Instead, it cut less than 250 pennies and lost an S&P rating, making it even more expensive to take loans.
I love this demonstration.
That looks like me giving up a meal once a decade
Great demonstration, Thank you. And please tell me that the people that left the comments here don't really think we need to raise taxes to fix our problem.
thats is a good demonstration and good points !
I found it in the related vids. Thanks.
keep in mind that it will cost hundreds of thousands just for them to spend time polling to determine they need such a plan, think up the way to market the plan to the people, hold the press conference to market the plan, and then start executing the plan.
Brilliant
Good video. Keep make them.
(Cont) In other words, flooding the markets with cheap credit caused the boom of the 20's and it came to an abrupt stop when they realized the damage they were doing and attempted to over correct. This is very devastating but continuing the problem would be even more devastating. Ideally they shouldn't create the booms that result in the busts because without any boom there would be no bust.
I'd like to see a timeline, per year, of how many pennies the US has spent like that over the last 50 years, complete with white and yellow line. I believe that would be a lot more telling about life, the universe and everything American.
Great video. It sounds like a big deal but like in the video you can see it doesn't really do all that much. We need bigger cuts to get things under control
If we discussed national budgets in giga-dollars imagine how different budget decisions would be done. Imagine how different the reaction would be if Obama said he will cut "0.1 giga-dollars from the 3,500 giga-dollar budget".
these are great videos you deserved to be sponserd
On that table were about 1,750 penny stacks measuring about 35 stacks wide by 50 stacks long.
The $1.6 trillion healthcare estimate at $160 billion per year would be represented by 400 pennies, or 80 of those 1,750 stacks, or in other words, one row off the end and one row off the side, indiscernibly leaving 34 X 49 stacks.
The $60 trillion in recent worldwide wealth destruction could be well illustrated by wiping ALL of those pennies off of the table onto the floor SIXTEEN times!
Great job.
I agree whole heartily.....
I learned a new word today, thanks
Fantastic Job, i love it!
Great illustration! Don't forget how many pennies make up defense spending too! And you can bet Congress wouldn't cut a penny of that
This should be implied that the cutting is from the right sources by the statement that we should reconsider what is the proper role of GOV in a free society. It is not a new idea of GOV but to look at and understand what it was our founders established as a proper function of GOV.
Great video. So few people actually understand what a trillion really is. Its a million million. That's 1 with 12 zeros behind it people. People need to wise up and realize what is going on.
Yea using this analogy hes now cut 17 billion or 42.5 pennies out of that pile to the right which would be 8 stacks, 2.5 pennies. Actually that 42.5 pennies was actually from more then the right side, a little of each i think. Not bad so far, its only been 3 months. I would love to see this analogy updated as time goes on. Would be very interesting to watch.
Minor correction, the top five pays for more like ninety percent of the taxes.
The point is that it is 'spin'. Deliberately using the ignorance of the nation to his advantage.
This video is useful, and I appreciate the effort.
AWESOME VIDEO!
This is totally awesome!
